The symptoms of religion are the same as as schizophrenia which is considered a mental disorder. They match up perfectly.

Outside of faith a person saying they hear voices and see ghosts would be considered insane and more than likely dangerous.

Mental disorder? Be careful because forum rules are specific about insulting people. And just because I don't believe it's possible or rational to assume the universe just happens to exist (like a watch that "just happens" to lay in the wilderness somewhere) that hardly means I have a mental disorder.

Now you deny what other believers relate as their faith experience. That's a shame you can't see it.

Anyone who has that much of a fixation on people of faith and that much venom for them should be the last person talking about others having a mental disorder.

People that have, specifically, schizophrenia, are usually either very accusatory of the government, Satan, or people in general of being "out to get them". Don't get me wrong; I do think that the current government is out to get us lol, but I'm not schizo about it.

To really address this, we have to analyze, first, why is it that some people believe in God/theism and others don't. I personally think it's largely due to "wishful thinking" taken to an extreme degree; people want to think that an all-powerful, all-protecting/loving God and afterlife exist. So they convince themselves of it.

It also has to do with the infamous "God of the gaps" argument, which is the only reason (other than claims of personal experience) that theists ever posit for believing in a god(s).

    Yes.

An intelligent creator is in no way necessary for anything. For some things, we know it's more likely that it was designed..by humans, for instance.

For me personally, it's an ego-inflator to put down people that believe in bull(*)(*)(*)(*).

    I fully, proudly admit that.

Then you've got some serious self esteem issues if that's what gets your rocks off.

It's obvious to me you wouldn't know the truth if it bit you. Laugh Out Loud back at ya'.

How is a statement about your use of a phase an insult to you? There is nothing necessary about a god figure at all except to those that need to have someone to blame.

I don't think so. It's just fun to debate with people about this issue.

Another reason why is because I use to be so theistic, I was offended at atheists and even a little afraid of them. BOY have I changed!

Pointing out the very comparable symptoms of a mental disorder to faith is means spirited. I'm sorry that's just silly.

That's childishly sad. It means you are convinced you know what the truth is. The fact that it hasn't occurred to you that you might not know is sad but typical of this new breed of atheists.
Too bad your view is in a solid minority (for you) but considering the fascist tendencies of atheists, it's for the best.

I'm not offended by them. Perhaps that's where your problems began.

I would think it would be frustrating. People of faith believe in God. Its a belief not a fact. How is it fun to debate them when you can't prove them wrong?

I do know the truth and try and point people who believe in fairy tales as if they are real in the correct direction. Yes faith is laughable. It should be band and parents teaching this hogwash to children should be charged with child abuse. Yes that is how detrimental I believe religion is.

LOL Take down the "doctor is in" This isn't a Charlie Brown cartoon and you are definitely not Lucy :floating:

If you wish to embarrass yourself by all means, list the specific mental disorder associated with believing in God.

Does religion do a better job at explaining how the universe came to be than does anstronomy and physics? You know, God took one day to create all stars, galaxies and any other celestial bodies, and then it took him the same amount of time to fill in the Earth's oceans. It just goes to show that Neolithic's man perspective was very limited in scope. I believe the latter approach narrowed down the matter much more accurately - the hadron phase, the lepton phase etc.

There are several links throughout this thread that support what i have been saying. There must be five or six going back to post 496. Follow along most believers are good at following along so I'm sure you can do that.

Ummm...because just because you disagree with my view, that is not a sign that I have a mental defect. Incredible I should have to point this out.

Okay...prove to me you are not mentally diseased and show me something, anything, that is uncreated and
has always existed. Prove science wrong.

I'm certainly not embarrassed. I would be embarrassed to say i believed in a fairy tale as you do. That is embarrassing.

So you can't back your claim up. Smart move

This is the perfect example of a life so unfulfilled the need to fill it is insatiable and requires constant ridicule of others to distract from their own pain. It really is sad.

Again, you are taking a literal view of the bible and saying this is what the religious believe (of course some do, but the vast majority don't). That doesn't say much for your argument that you have to dishonestly set up strawmen to knock down, and then do your little touchdown dance. It's sad, actually.
