It's in their nature to get out and kill birds. A lot of birds. Keep your cats indoors, folks. Please.
You sure it's a "him"? Congrats on the cat. I started out with none...I now have three ex-strays. One is on my lap now...one is curled up under my chair, the third is, according to my wife, sleeping on the porch as of ten minutes ago. For the record, at 29lbs, Maya is way too big to be a lapcat.
I found that the anti-hairball stuff I give Maya (also a Maine Coon) helps greatly...so does regular brushing. Maya also gets regular baths...but that's because Maya is weird.
Congratulations. But...Rikku?! Well...name suggestions follow. Quenthel Tia Halisstra (ha-LEES-tra) Cavatina Qilue (KEE-loo-ay) Faeryl Triel (TREE-el) Danifae Feliane Yasraena
My grandmother's cat never got that memo. He sleeps on the porch railing. Three feet from the bird feeder. With birds coming and going all day. He totally ignores them. Go figure.
That's true. Also with it being a "little kid" everything goes in the mouth, even if it's not supposed to. I have had several phone chords and shoe laces chewed through because they could fit it in their mouth.
One of my cats has been sick for years. The vet couldn't even really tell us what was wrong. It's nothing serious but he has lost a lot of weight. Back in the day he was so big his stomach was almost touching the floor when he would walk around. He's still a big cat but no where near as big. He also has this bad habit of getting in your lap and putting his foot in your stomach. That was uncomfortable.
My coon also got plenty of baths and briushing. Yeah rare cat that will actually stand for baths. But I think he got to like how much better his coat was after a bath. My new cat is a short hair, that was something I wanted after the maine coon lol.
Tell you what Pasty, I have recently taken a liking to this adorable stray kitten that's been roaming the neighborhood. He now resides with me, but I still let him outside to roam around with his pals. I didn't want my kitty to get any female (*)(*)(*)(*)(*) cats pregnant so I had him neutered. Problem now is that he was such a manly cat before I neutered him and now he's become a sissified liberal since the neutering. But hey, contact me if you would like to have ownership of my liberal kitty, for I'm starting to lose all respect for him/her lately.
No, Maya does not tolerate baths...Maya LOVES water! As in: Maya has to be physically ejected from the bathroom to take a shower in peace! (Maya, for the record, is REALLY WEIRD.)
Maya isn't fat...she is just an enormous cat. Maine Coons tend to be big (20+lbs is common), though the vet says she is huge even by MCC standards.
Yeah my coon never was very fat and he was great cat , real friendly etc. My new cat which is a black "parlor panther" is much different. Still friendly but still wants his space, don't hold him etc. And physically he is much more muscular and strong but not as big as the coon. He is just about a year old this month and still quite a handful with the running around and playing. One thing I like about his breed is he will play fetch with me with his toy mouse.
