    http://www.businessinsider.com/poll-gop-favorability-rating-obama-irs-tea-party-scandals-2013-5

This is pretty important, and I would think that the conservatives of America should take heed of this. Obama's getting positive favorability numbers over 50%, while the GoP is running rampant at the scandal mill trying to make him look bad. And just when you would think all that slander would be paying off, Obama continues to sit pretty while the Republicans get shellacked in the Polls.

It's the same thing that has been evident in the last few elections, Negativism doesn't win elections. The least negative guy has been winning, and to look at the direction of the GoP at the moment, this could lead to an upset in 2014 where Democrats gain more than they loose.

Basically, I see it like this, people could gives a rats rear end about Benghazi, or the IRS's scrutiny of Tea Party groups, because all the majority of people want are good paying jobs, which are becoming harder and harder to find. So while the GoP pontificates on Capital Hill, people see that and wonder, Ok, nice, now where am I going to get the money to fix the roof while these jokers sit pretty flinging monkey poo at one another.

Obama keeps saying all the right things about jobs, doesn't get into bickering matches with the GoP for the most part and stays out of the mud. People want a message of direction, what they can do, hope, etc... they are tired of the childish games our congress has been party too, and since the GoP are the loudest group at the moment, it makes sense that they will take the biggest hit in popularity.

Our population is getting larger and more dumb every day . They want access to welfare , long unemployment checks and unrealistic wages and that's why democrats will probably win for a long time . Republicans best chance is to close borders and allow full term abortions .

    Sure it does.

Obama is a very negative figure, "The Republicans want to give you dirty air and dirty water..."

The advantage Obama has is that 99% of the kids graduating from the journalism puppy mills are flaming liberals and partisan Democrats.

Obama can do no wrong no matter what he does or doesn't do.

Never underestimate the power of free stuff, particularly as excessive litigation, excessive taxation and excessive regulation continue to erode the real jobs. They 47% of last year may be this year's majority.

I think we have lost the country.

The socialists have won and I don't need to see libs rubbing it in by making silly faces at me to know it.

Free stuff from the government is in, and personal achievement and responsibility is out.

America will never be the same again.

what in the heck are you talking about. Here's a graph from a leftist Obama site which shows who was the most negative; hint, it wasn't Romney

And the only answer the Right gives is...."Well...all those people are STUPEY-STUPIDHEADS!!!!!"

Which is fine...if they actually try to improve their image, they might start getting worrisome to Democrats. :)

The lament of the losing ideology..."The people are stupid!"

But when the GOP ran the show, House, Senate, Dubya from 2003 to 2006....you didn't see them saying that, did you? But somehow America became "idiotic" in less than 7 years?!?!?!?!?

The responses to the OP sound like the ramblings of a drunk who can't admit he has a problem. All of the anger and fear and extremism on this forum and all the others lucky means jack (*)(*)(*)(*). It is the death rattle of an ignorant mindset that until the last few decades had been living in the shadows. I'm hoping and actually optimistic that the Republican party that emerges from the ashes will have a much greater strength do to its exposure to this ignorance.

I feel like the rest of us are trying to save dead weight by reasoning them out of position they didn't reason themselves into.

Don't forget that the Republicans are also shouting the loudest for our children to be sent off to die in useless wars with people who aren't threatening us.

Oh, and that they support arming the mentally ill with hi-capacity magazines and easily concealed rifles after the Youngstown Massacre.

I look forward to 2014, when they're going to lose big time, and to 2016, when I think they'll become something like the Prohibitionists or the Nazis; a bunch of nuts, constantly screaming about how the country has gone to ruin because we've lost our precious freedoms to starve to death and murder indiscriminately while they get fatter and fatter off whatever blood they continue to squeeze from us turnips.

The GOPers are so insular in thought and their media choices, that they actually think that they are scoring points for their hyperpartisan gridlock and general political malfeasance.

It's going to be great to watch their stupefied responses as their media tells them that people like them even while they continue to hemorrhage election victories as their voter base continues to die off.

When the GOP ran everything...were YOU saying "The American people are stupid"???

    - - - Updated - - -

Given your "hope it emerges from the ashes" line...you ARE agreeing with the OP's initial premise, aren't you?....

that the GOP's likeability is in the toilet?

Doing what is right is not always popular. Anyone who has raised kids knows that. My daughter wanted me to keep her up with the joneses in high school. I would not do it. She also wanted a cell phone, I told her to get a job. Needless to say I was not popular. Now at 23 she is a very hard working responsible young lady. A tax payer helping the gimme gimme people along. Sad but this country is falling apart.

How would you design the new GOP?

What will it have to look like to please you?

Of course, I have like many others I'm sure watched it first hand with friends and people in my family. They can't read the statements being made by many of these nutjob neocons without cringing anymore and they have tried so hard to defend them for as long as they could.

And to partisan conservatives, Obama can do no right - no matter what he does or doesn't do. He could cure cancer and it would be some liberal conspiracy to brainwash the masses, according to conservatives.

All I want is a reasonable perspective to the problems we face in this country rather than the hyperbolic hysteria based on propaganda and religious nuttery.

But it's doesn't matter what I want or even what you want because this current horror story of American politics has no choice but to run it's course.

You make it sound like the critics are being too tough on Dear Leader that we shower with expensive vacations and other perks.

Being criticized comes with the job.

Not every critic attacks Obama on every issue.

Inevitably he will displease someone no matter what he does.

But being able to hold leaders accountable is what distinguishes America from the Soviet Union, Cuba or other dictatorships.

I don't know how to write a platform or GOP policy guidelines based on your standards of "reasonable perspective" unless you tell us what that term means to you.

    Let me be honest.

I suspect you are a lib who really likes most if not all of what you hear from the Democrat Party and just want the Republicans to copy them.

    I don't disagree.

But the partisan rhetoric only serves to undercut the (valid) arguments being made.

Both sides engage in partisan rhetoric.

    Even Obama himself.

I think its also important to add that a majority of the American people are fed up with Republican obstructionism as well but the RNC just doesn't seem to get it, which is to the benefit of the Democrats. So let the jokes, obstructionism, negativism and other games they play continue; eventually they'll lose the House again and more seats in the Senate; that way the democrats can get down to the business of running the country again.
