And in many cases, gays persecuting Christians. Or any others that disagree with them.

    Hate...
It can be universally felt, but only certain segments of the population are protected from it.

I am not quite sure what the owners of this venue were expecting.

Did they honestly expect to act in a discriminatory and hateful manner and folks would just write it off as being part of the love of Jesus, as they cited their religion?

It seems to me that they made their bed, and now they do not want to lay in it. They treated folks with disdain, and are (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)ing about being treated with disdain in return.

Guess that's the difference right there. I don't believe the government should be able to tell people what they can do with THEIR property, yes even if those people are racists.

Blacks are getting out of control. A business has more than a right to deny marrying a black couple.

If they go out of business it's their choice. They can't be forced, and all they have to do is declare bankruptcy and change the name of the company pretty much. Then they are protected from financial rulings in favor of those they disagree with, while renting the hall out again.

Worst that is going to happen is they will end up renting the place, make money off the gays, the place will get vandalized and abused, and then they fix it up and be done with it... like they should have in the first place.
    Most Christians would have.

No gays will want to give them money after this.... so they are off the hook.

Just another case of gays forcing their way into places they aren't welcome. Cub Scouts, Chik-Fil-A, etc, etc, etc.

I suppose there aren't a number of other halls available for rent in Des Moines.... being such a small city and all, lol.

I believe that calling it "hateful" is a bit of a stretch.

that isn't the point. The homosexuals in this story are going to force their sexual preference down the throats of the couple while trampling on the couple's religious freedom. Welcome to Obama's Amerika

Really? Essentially saying "you're kind aren't welcome here" and then crying when the people respond with legal discrimination action.

What is this world coming to. The gays are actually using their rights!!

Oh well too bad. There is no religious freedom when you run a for profit business.

Please read the article. The couple are happy to serve them, they just won't rent the hall for a gay wedding. They can have a homosexual meeting, a homosexual
shindig, a homosexual pig roast; whatever. What they won't support is a wedding due to their religion

    Enlighten me.

How is it different? A business owner denies service to a couple based upon the business owners prejudices.

Other than the fact that discrimination against blacks is less politically acceptable than discrimination against homosexuals- how is it different?

Oh I totally agree with you.
We've been watching this for years.

The lack of halls in a large city was sarcasm.

It will be a sad day when "Oh well, too bad" is an accepted rationale for people forcing their ways onto others.

and if their interpretation of their religion said that a mixed race couple shouldn't be allowed to be married?

I understand that this couple doesn't agree with homosexuals being allowed to be married but I am no more sympathetic than if they refused their facility because the couple was black or Jewish.

On the other hand, I would support their right to be bigoted with THEIR property just the same.

hell, I believe a gay black man should be able to refuse to do business with a straight white Christian male if he wishes to.

Well I understand that is your opinion I disagree.

Because I believe that if a business offers its services it is obliged to follow the law, and if the law prohibits discrimination based upon race, religion, national origin, gender or sexual identity, then a business cannot refuse to provide services based upon those issues.

And yes, I am glad that business can no longer tell negroes that they are not allowed to come in.

You think businesses should have to follow the law even when that law is unconstitutional? That is just weird.

How is the law unconstitutional? What part of the constitution does for instance the Civil Rights Act violate?

The owners have the same recourse that anyone has if they think that a law is unconstitutional- they can file suit against the state, or if accused of violating the law can attempt to make a constitutional claim. Like the guys saying the income tax is unconstitutional.

Oh and I wish that someone would do so. But I think we know why it doesn't happen. Who's going to spend that kind of money fighting such a case? Even a victory wouldn't be worth the monetary cost.

And anyway, as I said, only an idiot gives a customer a reason they don't want their business anyway. If you own a wedding hall, how hard is it to just say you're booked up for 2 years solid if you don't want to do a wedding ? Sheesh, not likely that any sane person would sue you and subpoena your planner.

    I disagree.

There is nothing within the Christian religion that precludes them form renting their hall to anyone.

    Nothing.

Their bigotry appears to be spawned out of the religion, which ironically is about love. Supposedly.

So they treat the folks wishing to get married there with disdain, in a manner that is hateful. I am just shocked that folks are surprised that the hateful nature of this allegedly Christian couple is not met with open arms. It seems they are treating folks in a hateful manner, and in return they are being treated in a hateful manner.

This is one of those cases where previous cases from the civil rights movement will come into play for right or wrong. Remember all those businesses that refused business to blacks for a long time in the south? Or separated the black customers from the white if they did allow them into their business? Would you call that acceptable behavior?

I don't see this as an attack on Christianity, because these people likely would have filed suit against a Muslim or Jewish business that also refused them the same services. It's just that we have a clear Christian Majority in this country so the odds are that if it came to a conflict in this nature a Christian would be the focus.

Although I think the business people have a clear counter case to bring to court of their own when it comes to harassment, libel, etc.... And I think they should definitely pursue it.
