You're expecting Americans to put differences aside and band together, similar to how the media portrayed the country after 9/11, or during that awesome lava scene in that Tommy Lee Jones movie Volcano? Not going to happen. We'll laugh at each others victims and blame each others perpetrators. Thems the consequences of the left's balkanization of the country.

    He could, but come on.

If you are saying it is that lax, then go all the way and stroll in with a mini nuke! I am not sure if the security measures should rely on 'looks suspicious., this seems a very amateur manner to base security on.

    And what of these 'others'..?

    Are there others or not?

It seemed to suggest that there are, or is it just this one and now he happens to be dead?

This did not happen in a street.

Whatever local guns laws may or may not be in place would have nothing to do with this incident.

More than likely but at this moment I feel to guilty and bad to really think about that. That time will come but for me at least the time is not now. May what ever god they believe in comfort their families. The rest of us should hug and kiss our own and be thankful we have them.

Yes, it is that lax. In my 10 years in the Navy, driving onto bases probably thousands of times, my car was only searched a handful of times.

This. It's interesting though, how some outlets are saying "One more suspect" and some are saying "two". It's mentioned before during these tragedies, but: Why doesn't the media focus on getting it right instead of sensationalism or beating the deadline?

Accuracy beats accessibility everytime IMO. Ideally, you'd have both accessibility and accuracy though.

it isn't at all peculiar to you that in a topic that usually sparks a mental illness/gun right debate, we're suddenly entertaining an urban/ethnic violence regurgitation? It isn't strange to me... predictable, really. Just wondering if you folks ever stop to think "hm, consistency alert".

That's exactly what Obama said after the Sandy Hook shooting. I don't believe it, though. I think when stories like these happen, gun grabbing progressives start salivating over the prospect of passing more gun legislation, like Pavlov's dogs.

Because news "organizations" are under the impression that public viewership/ratings are dictated by the institution that drops news first, when it couldn't be further from the truth.

Everyone is free to do as they wish. I have been on PF long enough to know the game. I am just proud I have my family and sorry for those that don't. I honestly can not debate this topic at the moment. If others can that is their decision.

This thread did spark a gun rights debate.

Your analogy doesn't work. This wasn't some High School reject loner walking into a movie theater... this attack looks to have required much more planning and coordination, which right away puts "mental illness" on the back burner.

So when will you not be too emotional to argue for gun restrictions? Tomorrow? Next week?

Because its all about money/ratings. The news organizations are capitalists and in business to make money; everything else is secondary.

......putting the complete dismissal of the sudden "urban violence conversation" to the side for a moment, you're claiming no mentally ill man has ever carefully planned an elaborate killing spree? James Holmes just suddenly waltzed into a movie theater. Where did you hear that?

    and banning isn't the answer.

Yes they rush to report but I did the same thing. I started this thread thinking it was one victim being shot at a navy office building. So I have no room to badmouth them. I have not had any sleep and followed this since it started. My emotions are just getting the best of me need a break.

Out of respect for those who suffered from today's tragedy, please try to be as respectful and on topic as possible.
Rule violators will be removed from the thread

    Thanks

We'll find out very soon what this guy's motivation was. If the topic did not include enough "mental illness" discussion for your liking, you can rest assured knowing that you did your part to throw that theory out there.

It'll be interesting to watch how the left reacts to this story. Will they glorify him the way they glorified the intrepid cop killer Christopher Dohrner? Will they put up a sexy snapshot of him on the cover of Rolling Stone? Will they blame his mortgage difficulties like they did with the Times Square bomber?

Well on the loving your family and being proud you have them I agree with Obama. Not on much else, they will not be taking anything away today, tomorrow, or even next week. I always defend the constitution, but that battle will have to wait for me. Even the NRA allows time for morning and closure.

Unfortunately, there isn't. The Founders knew that the Tree of Liberty would be soaked with blood, and that the only way to purify it is through the actions of Patriots.
The First Responders at the scene, the doctors who are performing life saving operations even as we speak on these victims and the hardened police officers who fought at the line of duty at a time where no one could've expected.

Take away the rights of civilians and the First Responders, and your left with a criminal world. Taking away Gun Rights isn't the answer, neither too is arming everyone to the teeth and brim.

First: Fellow PF posters, NEVER, EVER click on links that look like the ones above EVER. Unless you're an advanced user and enjoy reloading your computer from scratch. Links like that can and likely will take you to malicious sites that will bork your computer.

Second: How come the NSA didn't catch this one? They scan our eMails, collect and listen to our phone conversations, spending billions in the process aren't we supposed to be safer because of that? If we're not and they can't catch a guy like the shipyard shooter, why are we wasting billions and giving up our right to privacy then?
