In order to get to know God, you must have faith. For example if I say I want to give you a gift, but you don't have faith in what I am saying and walk away, then how can you get the gift?
But, why would someone wish to "Know" someone/something they do not think exists....in fact how could they?
For two thousand years the most brilliant minds in the world were Christians, and before that the three greatest Greek philosophers believed in one God. Are you telling me their beliefs are the same as a pig in your nostril? Personally I find it delusional for you or anyone to see themselves so far above them that they would actually mock them.
You might not want to, and that is your choice. There have been though millions, if not billions who preferred otherwise. Do you want to deny them that right?
I do not believe I have indicated in any way that I wish to deny anyone, anything. I simply posed a question based upon your comment.
God will forgive me if I don't buy what he's, apparently, selling. Thus I will go to heaven anyway, if all that stuff is real.
be like a deadbeat abusive dad telling his kid he has to punish him for believing his step dad is his real dad, I mean he gave the kid a choice, punishment or reward.. kid choose right? not the fathers fault is it? .
conveniently ignoring the fact that atheism wasn't an option for almost all of that 2000 years. ergo, if EVERYONE was religious, how are your 'brilliant minds' distinguished by being ... religious? I find it interesting that you've used the word 'delusional' to describe discussion of my nostril supernaturals. I take it you feel that all other claims but yours pertaining to the existence of magical beings are similar? Further, this disney idea of seeing ourselves as 'so far above them', is a beaut! How do you come to ascribe a spatial position to these things? Is this part of the hierarchical thinking you inherit with your myths? Does conditioning cause you to view independent thinking or questioning as 'putting oneself above god'? If this is the case, how do you see your own position when it comes to my nostril superheros?
because, Jeanette, if someone says they have a gift for me, they usually do. more importantly, though, the gift is usually a tangible thing that can be seen, felt, measured, weighed, photographed, and triple checked for existence. meantime, I maintain that you're saying that in order to believe in god, you first have to believe in god.
True. But when we get older, we realize everything they taught in school wasn't 100% factual. In some cases maybe completely fabricated. Especially concerning US history. We were told what the gov't wanted us to know.
Why are you so sure you will be with God when you die? Is it because you feel you are a good person? For heavens sake, I know sociopaths who believe they are good, and saints who begged God to forgive them for their sins, but this has nothing to do with a person being good or bad. To be with God, you have to be receptive to God, and to be receptive to God you must be in a state of repentance before death. In other words you have to ask God to forgive you for your sins. Now if you are not with God.....
I believe that is for your God, but that is not everyone's God. A loving God will accept his creation for how they are, not for how they worship.
Because he apparently says so. No it's because god is all forgiving. Correct. Nonsense. God forgives all. See above.
Of course God accepts His creation the way they are, but He also wants everyone to unite with Him and this can only happen when a person dies in a state of repentance. It's the only thing which will purify a person's soul, and only a pure soul can unite with an All Pure God.
I'm talking about the God of Creation. I'm sure the lesser gods by their very nature would be more indulgent to you in this carnal and material world. But will that world exist after death?
Of course God knows what's in a person's heart, that's why they have to be in a state of repentance. If a person feels God must exist only on his terms, then wouldn't his state of mind be blocking out the love and forgiveness God is willing to give him?
If hell is what you're looking for then you've probably already found it. If you're looking for God to help get out of hell then you're probably looking to hard.
I have news for you, everything is in this world is relative, except for the Ten Commandments. What ever our faults, and believe me they were and are plenty, we are still the most humane nation and people who have ever existed on earth. I don't know of any immigrant here, that wouldn't kiss the ground they walked on. Maybe you should see the movie, or better yet read the book: America, America by Elia Kazan.
