UN res 194 conflicts with 181?

how interesting. have you informed the General Assembly?

......and yet the UN's acceptance of Israel as a member state, references 181 (which calls for a Jewish state)...and was issued AFTER 194.

    :)

Netanyahu is making a HUGE mistake doing this and it only makes things more difficult for me.

Historically any state that has done this has resulted in a highly non-inclusive nation that tends to exclude and discriminate against others who are not of the same religion.

    Just look at Saudi Arabia.

The UN recognizes Israel as a Jewish state, as per UNGA resolution 181.

UNGA resolution 273, which makes Israel a member state, references this resolution.

The only thing that matters is how Israel itself defines itself.

Yet it is only when Israel does something of this sort is it worthy of attention.

Go figure, Jordanians, Greeks, Irish, Portuguese, Arabs, Muslims you name it ok, but when Jews do it - the world stops.

Because as it is we have been going way out of our way to be constantly putting out fires.

This is just something that Netanyahu did not have to do and it is just a slap in our faces.

When they stop accepting our $20 Billion a year then they can do what they want.

Until then we expect them to shut the F@%# UP and let us work.

According to Webster, the term Portuguese identifies a native or inhabitant of the country Portugal (nationality). A citizen of Portugal is therefore Portuguese, regardless of his ethnicity. The word has a secondary meaning, it also describes people of Portuguese descent (ethnicity).

The term Jew does not describe any nationality.

There is nothing wrong with Portuguese identifying their nation as a Portuguese nation because all citizens share the nationality Portuguese.

Jews are not asking to have their nation be identified as a Jewish nation. Jews are asking to have the Israeli nation, a nation they share with Arabs and other ethnicities, be identified as a Jewish nation. This is not the same as your Portuguese example because all citizens do not share the ethnicity Jewish.

As I said before, Israel's national language is hebrew, it has been since its inception. The very name 'Israel' gives the country a hebraic identity. Its a home for all jews, whether they are racially/ethnically jewish or religiously jewish or both. But this doesn't change the fact that all citizens regardless of non-jewish background have equal rights under the law. Believe me, if a non-jewish person is murdered by a jewish person in Israel, its the jewish person that goes to jail. Its one of the better democracies in the middle east, really. Citizens of the state enjoy a high standard of living on average compared to some of the surrounding countries, like Egypt, Iraq, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Libya, and Iran. I have heard israeli arabs say they much prefer to live in Israel, they consider it their country because it is also their country, even though it is hebraic in culture and in language mostly (arabic is the second official languge of Israel). There are some very proud Israeli arabs who don't mind this, they speak hebrew in the public sector mostly and speak arabic at home and are still proud to call themselves Israelis. Again, they say 'I am an arab, and Israel is my country'.

Better start thread after thread after thread shouting from the rooftops how racists the Portuguese are then.

    Correct.
And there is nothing wrong with them stating their ethnicity is Portuguese either.

Right. They are going to put this question to a democratic vote unlike most other nations that just jam it down their people's throats like Syria, Egypt, Iran etc.

Uh huh. And those Arabs and other ethnicity will have the exact same vote on the matter as Jews do. S'matter, you don't like democracy? Prefer the Iranian way of dong it where everybody is Islamic be they Christian or Jewish?

Strange, your dictionary described them as an ethnic group.

Never mind the $7 Billion in U..S. Military Aid.

The $2.7 Billion in Covert Aid.

The $3.9 Billion in directly paid for by the U.S. Israel/American Intelligence Group.

The main expression of Congressional support for Israel has been foreign aid via the Zionist Ben Gurion Organization based in Washington DC.[1] Since 1985, it has provided nearly $3 billion in grants annually to Israel,

PLUS the many many multiple BILLIONS given to Israel by Private American Corps.

$20 Billion is a LOW BALL FIGURE.

I am not disputing such aid is necessary.

What I am saying is because we give them that level of aid the LEAST they could do is listen to us now and then.

Then perhaps you missed those undemocratic and abusive to human rights- regimes, surround and threat the state that does try its best to be democratic, even thou 25% of it favour those undemocratic regimes. - generally speaking ofc, I estimate much much less then 25%.

No one is perfect, we do what we can in such reality.

And it was to counter such claims of Israeli innocence that I started the following thread. Please feel free to contribute to it if you wish:

Dont change the subject, fact is Israel is surrounded and threatend by those countries and that fact alone is enough to put a stain in its democarcy,

Ah, now there's a viewpoint which might have originated in the humpless camel department.
Let's be clear that NO legislation involving Palestinians - who make up 25% of Israel's population- could ever be accepted internationally unless it addressed the relevant UN resolutions which grant Palestinian refugees the right to return to their homes. They didn't simply disappear when the Zionists ethnically cleansed their homeland. It is still their homeland too- under international and humanitarian law.
Netanyahu's proposal flies in the face of international law for several reasons and the refugees right to return is one of them. Any ' jewish ' State would believe- erroneously- that it had circumnavigated international law and freed itself to practice illegal annexation and apartheid. See you, Bibi.

Netanyahu's proposal is clearly at odds with Resolution 194- and will remain so despite the amusing and concocted diversionary post quoted.

181 was never implemented. Israel unilaterally declared a ' jewish ' State but it was not recognised. Truman crossed out ' jewish State ' in a clear rejection of the pap that you are currently trying to push.

Not as any adopted measure. Bluff called. Horsepoo identified.

You have no idea what the proposal will be because it hasnt been written yet - if at all, in the case of the refugees in resolution 194 - the Israeli ppl object it regrdless of what law Bibi wants to pass, I dont think that's the issue anyway, the ones that could potentinaly be offended by such law will be the Israeli Arabs.

None of the above have 25% Palestinian populations or a refugee diaspora whose rights to return are enshrined in international and humanitarian law.

However, the Jewish and Arab State of Israel would be an acceptable title. Tell us why you would oppose that.
