I am going to go out on a limb here and guess at what you were attempting to talk about when you complained about double standards.

You are upset because some women newscasters display enough cleavage that it gets you sexually charged up- and then go on to compare that to male broadcasters if they didn't wear any shirts.

There is a double standard going on in newscasts but you seem to missing what it is.

Look at almost any newscast around the country and here is the pairing you will normally see:
Man- 30-60 years old- sometimes good looking, sometimes just average- but looks are not required
Woman- 20-30 years old- always good looking- good looks and youth are required.

Women are expected to dress appropriately- which usually means blouses and skirts- often showing a lots of leg. Some of the women do this to advance their public career(sex sells) but others do so because the management expects the female anchors to do so.

Now- lets go to the beach- shall we?

Again- the double standard- men can go topless, while women are expected to be covered. Mind you- I am not complaining about this- but if you are going to whine about a double standard- there it is.

 

Why not? I am. The reason that women can't go topless is because of our prudish, repressed society. It gets so ridiculous that even little girls must wear a bikini top to hide something that isn't even there. Women should be able to go topless at beaches and the tiny fraction of prudish prigs who have a problem with it shouldn't be dictating our public policy on this.

 

Well, I don't wear jeans that show my pubic hair, but I do wear cutoffs, which show a bit of skin. To some people, that might be considered close enough. As long as you keep the hair trimmed or shaved, it's comfortable against a summer breeze.

The REAL double standard is that I can walk out my front door and clear across town with no shirt on with no incident whereas a female engaging in the same behavior would be thrown in jail and tonight's newscast would lead off with that story.

 

Nah, the REAL double standard is the fact women can have babies and men cant. Therefore things will NEVER be equal between the sexes. Its physically impossible.

Watch any sport event and the post game interviews will have naked men half displayed on the screen interviewed by women reporters. In fact, look deep enough into the background and you often see a fully naked man. Imagine what would happen if it was women who were displayed like that.

 

There's a difference between scanty clothing, which is designed to sexualize, and natural, tasteful nudity which isn't. Society has been trained to not distinguish sex from nudity. But when kids grow up in a healthy naturist lifestyle, they have a more mature view of the human body in all stages of life and are more confident sexually. Our society is sex crazed because of all the "teasers" which are designed to incite lust. In Europe, where there are nude beaches or other beaches where women go topless and children wear nothing, they aren't nearly so hyped up as we are. They're far more relaxed. There's a lesson in that.
