Furthermore, marijuana legalization is not a civil liberty. It's a public health crisis. It's a dumb idea only supported by those who smoke it. Now, if there really was someone who didn't smoke weed that believed it should be legalized, I would be willing to take their argument into consideration, but until such a person exists, then I stand firm with my opinion.
Really? That's funny. I don't do drugs and I think it's stupid wasting tax payers money arresting pot heads. As for civil liberties.....why do you want to give government the power concerning your health? Are you a progressive totalitarian?
No, I'm a drug-free person. - - - Updated - - - So is buying weed. All you're doing is spending exorbitant amounts of money on something that will just end up going up in smoke.
Then I recommend you avoid buying it...I see the lottery in much the same way, but am not fixated on it.
You must be hanging out in a Hooka bar or something...I have never seen someone smoke pot in public, well once at a Judas Priest concert.
Nope see my post in the other thread. Sitting on a beach in Maine, potheads plunk down and begin stinking up the beach causing families to uproot and move upwind of them. Selfish pricks trying to stick it in your face. I should thank them though, all those people who were pissed off will tend to remember that when these issues come up at voting time.
Some people think buying diamonds or nice cars, etc is a waste of money. What you fail to understand is that its THEIR money.
Many have come forward...but you refuse to believe them and seemingly call them liars. Not a good way to debate a topic.
Weed- An unproductive waste of time even if it wasn't unhealthy. A time that could be spent doing something more productive- which is just about anything. Would probably spark violence as all the groups like MS-13 and those Mexican Cartels will be affected by its legalization one way or other (regardless of profits lost or gained, things won't stay the same). Will probably begin a push towards heavier substances (they always start with "just this one thing" like with gun control, but push for more and more as time passes). Something that has damaged many people that I know in real-life, most of that affected group whom never made it past High School. Still are unemployed/never completed education now- many years later. And the taxpayer will of course end up paying for their weed. And all people can argue in favour is "freedom"? Freedom to abuse freedom, freedom to be irresponsible? No, just no. They should be segregated away from the productive members of society and lose all their welfare benefits before I would even mildly consider accepting it.
In all honesty as much as like to break balls on this issue, my stance is actually to let people do what they want AS LONG AS they do it in a way that doesnt affect me. The problem is as with the beach thing, they always do. It happens because its not about just merely being able to do drugs legally, some of the people that do them tend to do it in your face as an FU and ruin the fun for the rest of the people who choose to self poison with chemicals.
OP, you're full of it. ALL libertarians and Objectivists favor legalization of ALL dope, and no, we aint dopers. We just dont agree that the state has any biz at all telling adults what they can put into (or take out of, ie, abortion) their own bodies. The war on dope has cost trillions of $ and millions of lives, and all it's done is erode our rights.
The majority of people accept that marijuana criminalization is a failure. That is 150 million potheads according to OP.
if they are breaching your peace (doped or not) or committing a civil offense, then take them to court. ALL smoke, not on private property, is unhealthy and an assault on everyone's lungs, not just dope smoke.
typical govt thug thinking. sue each and every car owner, if you like. We've got 1000x too many laws already.
So have your wife carry a fog horn in her purse and if somebody blows smoke in your face blow the horn back at them, say that the sound mellows you out.. Or avoid them. I only come across people that blow smoke in your face if you make a pest of yourself. Just don't worry with it and things will be okay.
Lie. I do not smoke and support the legalization or better yet decriminalization of pot and have for many years now. It is Not a health issue, because for one it has few health related issues than either tobacco or alcohol and secondly because those that smoke it will do so whether it is legal or not. Use some common sense and logic or do not attempting to make blanket statements that have no basis in either.
Anytime freedom exists, it will be abused, by a few. But instead of taking away something so important as freedom, you educate people to use freedom wisely. What you don't do is to destroy freedom simply because some people will abuse it. For then freedom can be taken away in other areas, with the same justification. It isn't the speech that we agree with that must be protected, but that speech which we do not agree with that must be protected. Your paradigm would take away the speech that is not agreeable. Cutting off the head of the horse to cure its headache.
Here are some interesting facts: In 2012 there were 10,322 drunk driving deaths and around 50,000 people die of alcohol poisoning a year.. Cigarettes are responsible for 443,000 deaths a years. Yet, these are still both legal. What is the difference?
So you are saying people don't do this unless you are being a pest? That's a f ing joke. Smokerst throw lit cigarettes out the window, are the doing it because other people are being pests? Also, I'm not worried at all. Im not the one that's going to get arrested for a drug habit or lose my job after those amusing random drug tests.
