Yeah I don't know whats going on with some people nowadays. I think much of it has to do with how they were raised, as with anything. Allow kids to get away with things when they are young and it carries with them for the rest of their lives. My son knows not to interrupt adults when they are talking unless it's an emergency. If he wants something he will come up and wait quietly until he is recognized. And when Im talking to him he listens and waits until I am finished before saying his piece. He's 4...it's sad that grown adults 10x his age haven't figured that concept out yet.

Some people are indeed just self centered. It's always about me me me. Or they try to one up you no matter what it is, I hate that as well. I walk with a bit of a limp because of an injury I sustained when I was young and re-injured it again while deployed overseas. I also have a bit of trouble hearing due to an injury over there as well so I tend to lean in close when I talk to people. I was watching tv at a bar one day and casually talking to some guys next to me who had noticed my mannerisms and asked why I did that. I explained it to him and the guy on the other side of me overheard our conversation and he lifts up his shirt to show me a huge scar and loudly says "Oh yeah! Well I got into a nasty car wreck a few years ago, 3 surgeries and 50 stitches!."

Im like "Ok man it's not a competition...That's not the type of competition I want to win..." I wasn't even talking to that guy but he wanted to be the center of attention. The guys I was talking to just said "Yeah...good for you guy" and ignored him. He didn't like that and proceeded to ask everyone if they knew how it felt to get into a car wreck. We got up and moved to the other side of the bar...

Hopefully, you & friends moving to the other side gave him a clue, but not likely.......

How you're raising your son about not interrupting is nice to know b/c many parents don't do that anymore, so there's more 'me, me, me' people growing up.

When my kids were teens, one time I was visiting a neighbor, sitting at her table. Her 16 yr old daughter sat down w/us, squeezing herself b/t Marge & I and said "the boys at school tells me I have kissable lips".... I looked at Marge, not a peep out of her. If my daughters had done that, they would have found their kissable lips parked in their BR in a heartbeat. That eve I told my girls about that, telling them how I appreciate them ... gawd, I can't believe some of these parents and what they allow their kids to do and Marge grew up in the same era when kids were taught manners.

This same couple had a son who was rude, obnoxious, really full of himself. He decided to join the Marine Corps. When I told my hunny who was a former Marine that he was joining, Tom laughed and said 'oh gawd, I hope he does join. They'll kick that arrogant (*)(*)(*)(*) right out of him".... When the guy came home on leave.... lol! What a change. Very respectful and polite......

I know what you mean about these bores who always have to 'one up' on you......

Oh yes the military definitely has a way of making even the worst brats into respectable men and women. Unlike some of these kids parents a Drill Instructor will MAKE you be respectful, or else. It's always funny to watch the defiant ones when they show up. They get broken of that REAL fast. They can't hit you anymore (in theory) but some of the punishments inflicted make you wish they would just punch you and be done with it.

I see the things you are talking about all the time and I don't understand it. Kids running around calling adults by their first name, being rude, disrespectful, etc. What ever happened to Mr. and Mrs? Yes Ma'am and no Ma'am? I have family friends of my parents from when I was growing up that I still keep in contact with. Even decades later I STILL refer to them as Mr and Mrs even though I am far from 7 years old anymore. It would just be weird to me if I called them by their first name.

I am far from the perfect parent but I do my best to raise my son to give him the best possible chances at success in life. I try to teach him things when he is young to make it easier for him to accept as he gets older. He has loads of toys partly because I want him to be happy and partly because I kind of feel guilty for being gone so often and I tend to splurge on him whenever I come home. But twice a year we have an agreement that he will go through the mini toy store in his room and pick out toys that he wishes to donate to charity. We started doing that when he was 2. At first he was reluctant of course because they were HIS toys, all of them, even though he only plays with about 5. But after awhile he no longer minded doing that and actually gets excited when he gets to sift through his toy box and give some of them away. I do that so that he understands not to be greedy and how to share.

One of the biggest smiles I ever had was when he spent the night at a friends house. He came home the next day and went into his room for awhile then came out dragging a bag full of stuff. I jokingly asked him if he was moving out or something and he says: "I'm going to give these to my friend. He doesn't have any toys at his house like I do". We'd known the kids mother for years, we knew she was a single mother who was struggling to make ends meet. He didn't want to give his toys away because he expected me to be proud of him, he did it because he wanted to help his friend who he knew didn't have anything. I wanted to cry.

Beautiful! And your boy is learning about being generous at such an early age. Yeah, you're doing it right, Nightmare - be proud of yourself.

When my kids were little, 2 months b/f Xmas I had them clean out their toys b/c of a new load coming in on Xmas. Sent the broken trucks, etc to GoodWill b/c they repair them... now we give food & gifts to SA Xmas Center.

When my son was a teenager, he had 2 friends who would call me "Mama ****" (surname) and that didn't bother me at all. In fact, I tho't it was complimentary, meaning they were comfortable enuf w/me to call me 'mama'**** and were always respectful.

Showing respect to older/authoriative people like cop, teacher, etc is now gone and has been for a long time. Look at it now. Teenage savages beating up senior citizens.......

Another one of my pet peeves are loud gun chewers! And even worse, chawing away w/their mouths open.... I leave. Can't handle that.

People at Wal-Mart who see somebody they know and then stand in the middle of the aisle yackin', completely oblivious to the fact that they are blocking everyone else.

People of obesity who decide to wear clothing designed for those several sizes smaller than themselves, to the point of seeming similar to overstuffed sausage.

Lycra should not be made above a size 18....under any circumstances.

People with excessive coupons at the super Market,,,kills me...

One guy [and this is really unusual] had THREE shopping carts full of groceries,,he had to have a couple of hundred coupons, and screaming at the poor girl at the register for not allowing some,,he was insane, all red in the face, his veins in his neck stretching, about to burst. His poor wife just stood there with her head down, this guy was a control freak,,unreal!

He could not care less that he was holding up the entire line of people, to him they did not exist, this was about him and his coupons,,screw you people!!!
My wife was running around doing her thing, I watched and hoped a manager might relieve the poor cashier, she looked so helpless as this guy abused her.

Finally he just cursed out the store and cashier and left with all his carts, they only refused about six coupons from what I could tell. I felt so bad for his obviously embarrassed wife, seems like this was not out of the ordinary for them. If you ask me, the guy is sick...., lets hope he has a ''Shrink'' coupon, he needs one...LOL

Wow.... yeah, that would have been rough to watch and your heart going out to the poor sales-clerk. For me, not to much for the wife b/c she chose to live w/him........

It was VERY hard to watch,,I wanted so desperately to say something, but what are you going to say to a nut like that? How utterly selfish, how wrapped up in himself. When you see something that over the line, you know it's more than just coupons this guy has a problem with.

Still I did feel bad for the wife,,I know she's with him but sometimes when you have kids,,,well.......I bet he's a real nice guy at the Beer Isle....LOL

There's nothing you could have said to that jerk to wake him up. Some people just cannot see themselves the way others see them.

Yeah, you're right about the wife if there's kids and especially if the wife is uneducated, I guess they're pretty much trapped. There's so way I could have lived such a miserable existence w/a beast like that.......

Another pet peeve -- go in a jiffy store to buy one item, get in line behind some poor soul buying lotto tickets. He'll say, "Give me three of those, two of those. and one of those." Then he's looking over the display case and after a full minute he'll ask for a quick pick. Then he turns around and looks at the people behind him and proceed to tell everyone how close he came to winning a million dollars. After he gets his tickets he stands and looks them over and starts talking to the clerk, as the line behind him gets longer and longer. Then he leaves the store and gets in a clunker but it won't start. He gets out, lights a cigarette, opens the hood, and starts moving the battery cables around. This guy doesn't have two nickels to rub together--and if he's buying lotto tickets then that proves he failed math in school :)

What the hell is with women and checks? No man writes a damned check at the grocery store, and women, for reasons I do not understand, have never discovered plastic. Even that would not be so bad, excpet this is ALWAYS the way they do it.

Woman watches passively while clerk rings up items
Clerk tells woman the total price
Woman opens purse and starts digging for her checkbook
Woman finds checkbook, but can't find pen
    Woman borrows pen from clerk
Woman writes check and gives it to clerk
Clerk asks woman for drivers license
Woman starts digging through purse for drivers license.
Woman gives drivers license to clerk
Clerk processes check and gives receipt and license to woman.
Woman stands exactly where she has been standing, while digging for her billfold again, in order to put driver's license in billfold.
    Woman puts receipt into purse.
Woman adjusts purse on her shoulder.
Only at this point does the woman move so someone else can do a transaction.

When people can't hold a door or an elevator .....

    That pisses me off....

When you're walking into a store and some clown lets the door hit you in the face? that is just rude...

    I always hold the door....

I have to ride the bus sometimes. There is a retarded kid on the bus who picks his nose and eats it. It is sickening, and I want to hit him. (True story) Other than this kid, so many people on the bus reek of booze and cigarettes--also sickening. Once I got on the bus, and I swear it smelled like someone had died on it at least three days before.

Another pet peeve of mine is listening to all the elderly Asians on the bus speaking in their 'click, click' dialect. I hate it. I also hate how pushy they are; and I hate that they can barely speak a word of English, but are all on some kind of social services. One elderly Asian was ahead of me in line at the grocery store; and she didn't know how to 'work' her EBT card. The cashier had to punch in the numbers for her. (I didn't know that besides 'food stamps' they give out free money too on the EBT cards--that ticks me off.) I hate it that, in yoga, they act like they are all little Buddhas.

Another pet peeve is sitting around Mexican women with their broods on the bus; and listening to them speaking in their little quirky dialects. I hate it that their kids don't know a word of English yet they were all born here.

It ticks me off that I was in a fender bender, and it totaled my Jeep. You'd think they were a little sturdier than that.

It ticks me off when Ms. Cirrhosis downstairs get drunk, and starts nagging at her boyfriend. This went on all weekend.

Obese people tick me off too. I told my sons to invest in a wheel chair and walker company because everyone of them is going to need one by the time they are 40-50 years old.

So many pet peeves, so little time.
