That's a pretty impressive display of self control. as you would have been perfectly within your rights to shoot them, not the dirt.
I think it helps to have some practical experience(s) that way. The idea of being armed in society is to stop or prevent an altercation. With them, they got a "shot across the bow". Had they chosen to escalate, the rules would have changed. As it is, I'm very fortunate to have come this far in life without ever having had to kill anyone.
Unless the laws are changed to require them to be armed all the time, there is no obligation for them to carry all the time. <Mod Edit>
Quite obviously, though more than one attempt has been made. I was changing my targets one day at an uncontrolled range. Some clown backed his van in, opened the rear doors, and commenced to shooting at me with his AR-15! I don't know or care if he was "just playing". Bullets were hitting inches away from me. I got behind a small berm, and sent a full magazine back at the shooting bench in front of him. Every time I've been in danger, the title of this thread has been confirmed. It's not just CCW holders who need to be armed.
Let me remind you of something JFK said. "Today, we need a nation of Minutemen, citizens who are not only prepared to take arms, but citizens who regard the preservation of freedom as the basic purpose of their daily life and who are willing to consciously work and sacrifice for that freedom." -- John F. Kennedy
Most had about 14-18 seconds from seeing the gunman and being shot. (They didn't open fire until they were bearing down on the businesses.) That's from the surveillance videos when you can see people notice something weird and everybody looks and then scatter. So most had plenty of time to pull a weapon, to bad they were in France.
You mean everyone of fighting age that is part of the unorganized milita? I don't see how your comment is relevant.
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
Right. The militia, which every able bodied citizen is part of, and the people of the US has the right to keep and bear those arms and the government has no right to restrict that. Or did you not read the part about all of us belonging to the unorganized militia in your reference?
did you miss this Part with your special pleading: A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State
Its too bad you can't ask the people who founded the country what they think of your opinion. Thankfully, we have all of their writings that clearly defined what they meant. Every able bodied citizen in this country is part of the militia, the militia that is armed to prevent the standing armies of the federal government from imposing tyranny. Rail against it all you want.
Paris is the ideal example of why citizen defence is necessary. That the citizenry was disarmed didn't stop them looking around Belgium and forking a few hundred of bucks for an AK. It did, however, stop the innocents from being able to defend themselves. It takes time to kill people, the theatre had many people. At a 6% rate of CCW, all you need is 16 people in the room for one of them to on average be carrying. That fits most mass-shooting events. Martin Place in Sydney was another ideal example. The police will clean your lifeless corpse once all is said and done, but are unable to offer any assistance if someone is actually keen on killing a bunch of people. You may as well be a bunch of screaming lambs ready for the slaughter.
dude; Only well regulated militias of the several United States may not be Infringed when keeping and bearing Arms for their State or the Union, regardless of all of the other ones.
This is your uneducated(or dishonest opinion of the evidence) ideological opinion. The founders were concise on this.
dude, you need more than your unsubstantiated opinion. it is a legal fact in our republic: Only well regulated militias of the several United States may not be Infringed when keeping and bearing Arms for their State or the Union, regardless of all of the other ones.
For you to be right, "the PEOPLES right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed" would read "the MILITIAS right to keep and bear arms.......... You're wrong, get over it.
