Armed teachers would be a great idea in my opinion. If the teachers who want to carry are allowed then it'll save money on hiring a guard.
It works well in Israel. Very few attacks on Schools there if any. I also agree. I am a certified firearms civilian & LE Instructor, I would be glad to get trained in the correct curricular formats in order to train teachers properly.
Sure, if you want to make teachers law enforcement personnel. What about crossing guards bus, drivers and janitors? should they be allowed to carry too? Hey, maybe the students could carry. they could police each other!
If they have a license to CCW then why not. I would suggest they go through some specialized training that targets the likely scenarios relevant to school shootings and pertinent local laws of deadly force.
Bear in mind, not everyone has to carry, that it is allowed, like CCW in general is a deterrent as the bad guys are left guessing and the school is no longer a gun free killing zone. What many non CCW people and even anti-gun advocates don't admit to is that the mere fact that people may have CCW licenses and may be carrying, means that anyone might be carrying and provide a level of doubt to any predator. Thus, even those that don't carry are by extension given some measure of protection by the guessing game factor.
Not law enforcement, just CCW holders who can carry in schools. So anyone of legal age, not a felon, and has a CCW (though I object to having to get permission to exercise my rights) can carry in schools. It's not like there's going to be shoot outs and killings breaking out. That's what they said about Florida (my state) when they pass the CC law. And nothing happened.
No, actually as I just remembered, CCW is not needed, in NYS, they can be Deputized " appointed special circumstances" trained at FLETC, and have full authority as a sworn peace officer. NYS has written law that gives the Commisioners of State & City police departments full authority to train and appoint and swear in special patrolmen, when needed, at their personal discretion, to serve as undercover Detectives etc... Not everyone would carry anyway, just a few.
So parents at sporting events could carry? Have you seen some of these people? I have. Some of them shouldn't be allowed to carry sharp pencils out of the house. For that matter some teachers fall in that category too. I speak as one who has 20+ years in our educational system.

If they are law abiding then yeah. Beside if you knew that there could be 20 people sitting near you who is armed then you might think twice about punching some guy out for cheering for the opposing team.
Not all would carry, read my post, only the few that would chosen, appointed as special peace officers and carry concealed. And anyone doddering badly enough might or should retire.
Sounds awesome. I can think of nothing bad happening by having non law enforcement posses and possibly use guns in teh proximity of children.
It would be even better if anyone who wants to carry carried to keep the bad guy guessing. Or if I had it my way and the funding was there every faculty member would be required to be armed to remove the guess work of the bad guy. - - - Updated - - - When Florida passed it CC law what happened?
Judging from how badly you did in school, I might agree, you should not be trusted with guns or ink pens.
You think? - - - Updated - - - It remained the armpit of America, a moist swampland filled with rotting single wide trailers?
As I have posted many times, I am all about training. while I haven't worked with folks yet to set up school oriented senario training (school/teacher carry is just coming up this spring for a vote), you comment got me thinking about doing just that. aside from getting assistance in setting up such traing from experts and perhaps involving local response units in assisting with that training I am wondering if schools or the state might help with the costs. while I make some money doing training, I do some specialized traing courses that I volunteer to do for free and teaching educators is something I'd volunteer to do. Do you are does anyone else here have experience with setting up specialized training for educators?
My training does not include educators, just desk bound Officers with lots of accademic degrees and certifications / qualifications, and very little feild experience, also, forget funding by State and Municipalities for liability reasons, private donations is a better source of funding.
You're missing my point. Many of these people have little or no control over themselves. Allowing them to carry weapons is just asking for casualties. It is not just the adults who are at risk. If it were, I'd be tempted to say let 'er rip. But kids are present at these events. They are the raison d'etre. I cannot sanction laws that put them implicitly at risk.
Non uniformed special police with no badges carrying weapons. What would you call them? Secret police seems to cover it for me. Do you have some euphemism you'd rather use? Let's hear it.
tbh I found your thread about your stoic belief in a world wide flood as per the bible / noah etc more entertaining then this one.
Holy cow. If some teacher brought a gun to my kids classroom I raise holy hell. I am fine with ONE person in the school going thru EXTENSIVE training and that person can have a gun. But having a gun in a classroom is an accident waiting to happen. Would kill far more people than it saves.
