Men grinding down women is as old as the known human race. Every possible way to declare proving women inferior. What brought this about in my opinion? ALL money and fame for athletics USED to ONLY go to men. However, now women also can have athletic careers and they also can make MILLIONS. So there was only one thing to do - figure how men can go take all that money to against push women out of professional athletics and again make it just the domain of men. Its another way for men to rape women, economically and in a sense even denying their existence other than as inferior.
