went trap shooting on Wednesday. Used a 20 gauge under & over shotgun, and then a semi-auto. I believe I hit maybe 45% of the targets. got some nice bruises on my shoulder. clubhouse was nice, guy made us a great Italian seafood pasta dinner. Fox News was on the tv. it was an interesting experience, not sure I would make it a regular hobby.
Exactly, lean into it with your stance, tight to the shoulder. Glad you opened your mind to a different type of shooting.I shoot a lot of clay's here. Some of it organized, but most of it is just family and friends shooting. It helps when you have a automatic thrower.
I have two daughters that I started in this sport when they were both in their early teens. Both were already better shots than I with .22's ( better eye sight). Started them using 20ga then after they go the hang of it they both graduated to 12ga. Neigther break 100lb and Both can shoot through a full course without much effect. Did get them good guns and did fittings for both. Both have gone droving with me and do as well as me. We had a fantastic dog and both could shoot and control the dog. Both also liked bunny hunting. They sometimes when hunting together... They learned gun safety from a young age so I never worried on them. Just an aside, they came up with a recipe for dove stroganoff that was one of the best game meals I have ever had. Both also now deer hunt sometimes bagging deer weighing more than they. They can both field dress as well as anyone and have done great venison recipes. I taught them shooting and my reward are great meals in the fall and early winter. One, btw, hunts with black powder. Both have their own gun collections and both have CCW's.
The point of your article, after all according the rules the forum is dedicated toward political discussions, not your personal experiences. What do you want? An atta boy or something similar? Or are you just trying to connect in some way?
And if you look at the topic here, it's about gun control. There's a wonderful category that includes sports. You should try reposting there.
I drove a truck today, went swimming in a lake. Didn't hit anyone while I was drunk or drown, probably 50 percent lucky on the lake thing. Got a sore shoulder muscle from doing the breast stroke. The beach was nice, Some guy shared his BBQ brats. ABC was on the radio. Thanks for posting, I have been aching to share my story. Oh and since this is a gun thread....I had my weapon with me.....it didn't shoot anyone though...must be buying defective products, eh?
Good for you. It is an excellent sport and discipline. On a somewhat related subject here is one of the United States most outstanding Olympic competitors of all time. Her name is Kim Rhode and she is an outstanding trap and skeet shooter. Three golds, a silver and a bronze from 1996 to this year.
i really wish i could say i enjoyed the experience. took me 1.5 hours to get there from work, which was a real pain. hurt my shoulder, which was literal pain. and my co-worker's cousin was kind of, well, loud. i think if i got there in 20 minutes, it was 75 degrees, HBO was on tv, and all the folks there werre hot chicks, I would have had a better time. will i do it again? definitely. soon? probably not. will i buy a shotgun, just so i can trap shoot? probably not. considering i already have a gun a rarely use.
I do that and put the stock a little closer to my center line instead of way out on the shoulder. The only problem is dealing with long buttstocks.
Those are not so great, 20 gage has little recoil, it is great for birds, I put lots of hens on my plate with a 20 gage, I was always bad at trap and skeet, I am better at hunting.
