"Scientists collected eggs and incubated them in controlled conditions, playing recordings of the incubation song." At the risk of repeating myself ( Who said 'Boring!' ) - 'scientists' eh - what would we do without them? It's more useful info than the usual crap they dream up though. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-37116728 'the incubation song'!
Well the disciples of these right-on scientists/researchers usually do find some obscure justification to defend their endeavours, so that's as good as any, I suppose. Real scientists beaver away in modest anonymity until they discover something worth reporting.
IMO this was well worth reporting, and you did equally well by posting it in here. The large developments you hope to hear about are usually built on a myriad of smaller pieces of information like this. Who knows? Maybe it will inspire our scientists to explore the impact of sound on human tissue and lead to a hand tool such as the one used by "Bones" in Star Trek....and it IMO should also give pause to those who use ultrasound indiscriminately on the unborn. I have repeatedly in here and elsewhere expressed my concern that ultrasound could be a causitive factor in the increase of autism in the US.
