Great and doing good this afternoon too.

Busy, busy day. Took a sick neighbor some food, then took one of the puppies to the vet and did a bit of housework.

Got some strong winds blowing out of the west, the good thing is my leaves are getting blown across the road. Fewer leaves to pick up with the lawn sweep.

One good thing about Bermda grass is the protein. Have you tried your goats perennial peanut? That is suppose to be very high in protein.

I have been planting Marshall ryegrass. It is over 20% protein and up to 10,000 pounds of biomass per acre. But the season is about over for cool season grasses. I am thinking about lepedeza and legumes...and of course some Bermuda. I have been hauling pickup loads of horse manure and spreading it on one pasture since last summer. It grows good grass and the diseases and parasites do not transfer from horse to goat. I have been putting it on thick... at least 4 inches. The upper pasture is rock mostly.

Seems like yer cost analysis for Goats is going up by the day or week.
The cost of grass seed and of course top soil or Fertilizer and time involved
in tilling and spreading.Maybe even watering.Of course laying down straw to
keep from winds blowing off.Not to mention the need for a Goat Babysitter.
Plus storage for the Goat's galoshes.

Yes, but the goats do reproduce and chemicals have to be bought over and over. I never got into it to make money and the horse manure is free. It cost a little to go pick it up. 30 dollars of ryegrass will cover several acres and yes, the fencing is the biggest cost but once it is up it will last for many years. You could also see an increase in land value through the improvement from the goats. You can use chemicals, bush hog, or go natural. A tractor is expensive, a PTO and bush hog is expensive, and chemicals also have drawbacks. So any way you go it is going to cost. But at least with goats you can get some of the money back. I had six kids born this spring. At 75 dollars a piece it comes to 450 dollars. I have 17 goats right now and even though some will bring more it comes to 1,275 min. I also have another nanny expecting. My Boar goats will go for more than a hundred a piece. So...it takes I buck for 30 Doe's I could sell off all but my best buck (the good genes come from the buck) I could keep the girls and breed them with my best buck and repopulate my herd pretty fast. And feed...if they have the pasture is used for control of the animals and treats. Privet in this area is an evergreen and available year round for feed. But I do have to deworm and supply minerals. Being on a fixed income it doesn't hurt much. My wife's chicken cost more. It cost about 7 dollars for three pickup loads of horse manure and the ryegrass goes directly on to that. This is also a land improvement. The manure is free. Starting up any enterprise is expensive at first.

I must admit I'm a bit flummoxed over this Goat Bidness. Is there a beneficial
market for Goat milk.I mean I can easily understand Sheep.Because I buy and
eat Lamb every week.It comes vacuum packed fresh in lots of 3 lamb chops.
With expiration dates of 2 weeks or more.It usually cost around $ 12-15 bucks
for a 3 pack of juicy Lamb chops. So figger around $ 4 bucks per chop.
But it's even better than Prime Strip steak.
There is no such thing as Goat meat.I fail to understand the relative value
of raising Goats.Just so Goats can be bred.
    Am I missing something here.
I guess on some Farms a Goat can be a Pet.
But then on - Green Acres - the pet was Arnold the Pig.And Mr.Chaney,of course.

Worldwide goat is a very popular animal. And goat is one of the few farm products where demand outstrips supply in the US. I don't fool with it but home made goat cheese is a good seller. The other product that demand is higher than supply is crayfish. And I have been looking for reasonable priced redclaw crayfish for a while now.

    I gotta tells ya,and I must admit it's kinda creepy.There was a - Texas Chainsaw - flick
form the mid 2000's I went to the Cinemaplex to see.It was an early afternoon matinee
and therefore about 1/3 rd the price.
It was really gross. They had this worn down, off the beaten path little Grocery store.
Inside was a counter and *butchers case.Where you could see the meats. There were flies
everywhere. And the place had old screen doors and no air conditioner.
Just a big ceiling fan that made noise and swirled around like some dirty
old man trying to git horny.I kept thinkin'. Who in their right mind would ever
consider buying meats from inside a butchers case where it was not refrigerated.
I mean ... that did it for me.Lost any and all interest in cold cuts for almost a week.

    * also hooks hanging from the ceiling with Pig heads and parts.

No goats yet.The Border Collie is ready for a job, he thinks his job is riding in the back seat of the truck checking all the cars and trucks going by.
