I went to my first Circus during WW2 as a boy. At school, it was a field trip. We had to do things to earn money to go. Well, in May, Ringling Brothers will shut down. If you are in the East, you wish to attend since you may be one of the last Americans to see a circus. http://www.foxnews.com/us/2017/01/1...n-greatest-show-on-earth-after-146-years.html
My view is that Circuses and sea worlds, etc all should close, and they should have closed years ago. The way they have treated those animals is a disgrace. Animals in captivity. Ugh. Animal parks are ok as long as the animals have lots of acreage to roam in. Just my opinion.
Zoos stay put. Today can you imagine Conan O'Brian bringing elephants to his show? Mostly the shows are too late for kids. There are a zillion wild animals you will never see. And though wild, do you no good. i saw for the first time ever some pink armadillos that are no longer than 6 inches. Still a photo is not like seeing the animal in person. As a child, a circus was a thrill. We had no TV but we did enjoy radio shows. Radio shows came close to reading only we had the story told to us. I have been to some sea shows in N. California and it amazed me what training can do. Wild animals are dangerous. If you are adjacent to them, you risk your life. A zoo allows us all to appreciate animals and little risk to the visitors.
They were caught mistreating animals multiple times. Animals were not put on this earth for OUR entertainment. It is cruel to take a wild animal out of its natural habitat and to make it live in a cage and as a prisoner for it's entire life! Have you seen how they treat the baby elephants? It's absolutely atrocious how they "break their spirit." AWFUL.
What if you were a child, and someone came from the circus, kidnapped you, took you away from your friends and family to a strange place, and kept you a prisoner against your will and made you perform for a bunch of strangers, while whipping you and mistreating you the whole time?
People are the MOST arrogant and terrible animals of all. We seem to think the whole world is OURS and that other animals and creatures are here for US and that they serve no other purpose. Why are some humans SO arrogant?
It's what the locals do to them in Africa that I find absolutely atrocious - they hack off their faces with machetes to get the tusks.
I think it's okay to keep animals in captivity if they were injured or could not survive in the wild for whatever reason. Healthy animals that can fend for themselves should be left alone in their natural habitats and not taken against their will and placed in zoos for our entertainment. I don't know how people can justify doing that to a living creature.
Circuses have been closing for 20 years or so. My favorite circus was the Schuman Circus in Copenhagen. I also loved Ringling Brothers , Barnum and Bailey. I think the end of the circus is just that its time has come and gone. Its got to be a costly production. I think it is replaced by the Canadian Cirque du Soliel.
I have not, but I do not feel the same way about aquariums. The aquariums that I have visited have been well managed, or the sea creatures would surely die. In a zoo, the animals are cooped up in small spaces, with no room to roam.
The circus that visits our area is just another attempt to fleece dollars from parents, through the children...
As far as I know...the bigger circuses were "ok". My grandpa use to love taking my sis and me as kids. Probably is a good thing they are all closing. The smaller circuses were horrible. Hold all the a-holes accountable I say.
I think you are right, their time is done. people have different interests, more awareness. Cirque Soliel looks awesome... always wanted to see it. Ive seen Cavalia / Odysseo 3 times. The animals are VERY well taken care of and the show was beautiful. Those are the type of athletes I can admire.
So, there's no moral difference between animals and humans? Don't get me wrong, I don't condone animal cruelty, but comparing it to cruelty towards humans is ridiculous. Owning an animal is fine, owning a human is not.
