This has been wall to wall news here for weeks. Dallas City Council and mayor announced that they would take a look at this since since all of the black city council members started stirring up protests. Since then, the mayor and city council fast tracked the removal of the statue. They had a crane on site to remove the statue before the city council voted to remove it. The crane was too small. Before they could get another crane on site, someone tied up the removal in court. After that was cleared in record time, the city council sent a bigger crane to the site before dawn the other day. The crane was involved in a fatality accident on the way to the park and is on hold. The cost to remove the statue was originally almost $500k, but that cost has now risen considerably. Nobody has told the public what they will do with the statue and what it will cost the tax payers. The statue currently has armed police guard 24/7. This is all during police salary and pension issues and school district problems, where that $500k+ would come in handy. This is why I no longer live in Dallas County.

Robert E Lee might have made a good statue, but its time has come and gone. Nobody wants civil war monuments anymore. People are suddenly getting triggered bad, left and right, by them, just now, within the past 6 months. Time to erase our history for the delicate snowflakes who just now found their cause... and the rest of us need to walk on eggshells around them.

Our tax dollars at work destroying our shared history for self-serving political gain based on selective outrage.

This is the same group of clowns who wanted to rename Industrial Blvd because it ran next to the Trinity River that they want to develop into a artsy-craftsy lib hangout

So they held a contest to pick a new name and Ceasar Chavez got the most votes

That surprised the clueless city fathers and mothers and they promptly took the offer off the table

Dallas used to have outstanding leadership but not anymore

history is not destroyed by removing the statues from the pubic square to a museum, they just wont be the beacon of white supremacist anymore to these locations

we do not need monuments of white men whipping slaves in the public square not to forget that do we

the losers don't keep statues up, we tore down Sadam's statues, do you think that will make people forget and it should of been left up?

time for the confederates to get over it, they lost, time to stop spending our tax dollars maintaining and defending this nonsense

it costs hardly anything to remove a statue, now security to keep the employees safe from crazy conservatives maybe a little more, but 1 million, yeah right

if it's gonna cost 1 million, lets just hire a moving crew to take them to the dump, would not want to waste 1 million dollars over them now would we

let them take care of it then....

"Anonymous donor to pay for removal of Confederate statues"

    http://www.nola.com/politics/index.ssf/2015/09/anonymous_donor_to_pay_for_rem.html

"It will cost an estimated $144,000 to remove and transport the statues of Robert E. Lee, P.G.T. Beauregard and Jefferson Davis, as well as a monument to the Battle of Liberty Place, according to the letter. The donor agreed to pay for the entire operation."

We should be more like the Founding Fathers and leave up all the statues to King George and other symbols of the British monarchy.

Wait no, those ******n wig, Capri pants, and high heels wearing snowflakes tore those statues down!
