My point is that the 2016 presidential election was no different than any other presidential election in the number of voters.

The difference was the number of counties that had previously voted for Obama instead voted for Trump in the "blue wall", and flipped those blue states to red.

 

The difference was many democrats stayed home because they didn’t think their votes were Important because no one thought the narcissistic pathological liar could win, his supporters came out and we all learned a lesson, You can tell by what happened in Virginia and Alabama at people realized they missed an opportunity

 

Clearly they didn't, based on the number of actual voters, which was no different than the last presidential election.

There is no indication that voters "stayed home". If that were the case, fewer people would have voted than normal.

Didn't happen, either as a % of eligible voters or total voters.

 

Don't look to me to defend Trump unless something unusual happens; I'm not a big fan. You asked "Obama did literally anything he wanted?" and his bragging about his pen and phone was a reasonable response.

There's a quote out there attributed to George Bernard Shaw: "If all the economists were laid end to end, they'd never reach a conclusion." I'm no economist myself, but if I were to boil it down to a (vastly oversimplified) bumper-sticker sentence, I'd go with get the government the heck out of the way of business.

I am aware that economics encompasses a broad spectrum of economic philosophies. But what does it mean "back on track"?

I happen to believe that government must establish regulations in the public interest to place some boundaries on business. True red tape is a self replicating beast that accomplishes little and much of it should be trashed, but there needs to be a balance between the two. Difficult to strike, even harder to maintain, but that should be the goal.
