So Mrs Merkel asked Mrs May "What do you want?" in reply to Mrs May asking Mrs Merkel "What do you want?". So the first thing no one wants is to bid first. If you do bid first that bid must put the other person at a disadvantage. Too high for them to compete with for example. So what does Britain want. I suggest. High bid. Britain wants a free market agreement in financial services. Michael Barnier says some things are not negotiable. What does Britain want? A new negotiator. Goodbye Michael. Every time an EU negotiator refuses to negotiate on UK terms he is to be removed from negotiations until we get one who is willing to negotiate a favourable deal with us. What is Britain's position on the EU agreement? No deal. Our negotiators really couldn't have been armed with a better hand. All these things the EU wants to offer as their end of a deal, the UK has already rejected. Michael Barnier's positions have already been decided and negotiations on them with the EU already held. He is wasting everybody's time. Time for him to go. Or.. no deal. Given that the No Deal option is the only option the UK is democratically able to negotiate with, it seems to be remarkably under used. I listen to this stuff and it just sounds like people trying to re-run the referendum. What do you think Britian's negotiation positions should be? What do you want from the EU? Or if you are in the EU, what do you want from Britain, and what do you imagine trading for it?
The issue with that is the philosophy which underpins the ideal of the European Union. They would have to accept that there is actually a viable alternative to their way of thinking and that if the UK is given some form of easy ride then it is possible for other countries to do the same. They have to adopt and maintain an attitude of we are so absolutely wrong and they are so absolutely right. The foundation of the EU is synchronisation of law, economy and society. By postulating a second ground advantageous to the outsider must be anathema to them.
Yeah I sort of predict a "no deal" outcome from this. And a period of time with Britain "toughing it out" before negotiations of any kind my begin in earnest. I think there has to be a cooling off period where EU countries work out what they want from us/get over the rejection. You won't truly miss it until it is gone. (And perhaps that will cut both ways). If we take for example Germany and France will bloody mindedness last forever? Or will they want to make deals that favour their exports? At what point will national self interest override EU idealism? Ireland and Belgium should be ready to deal right now. Netherlands seem to be also. Don't get me wrong I don't actually think we need any trade deal, but I do think politicians love being important. So sooner or later they will try and make one.
https://www.theguardian.com/politic...putting-transition-deal-in-doubt-says-barnier According to The Guardian, the UK/us/we're not just going to let Brussels decide what happens to us if we infringe EU's laws, because there is no safeguard for London so can't see how a deal can be made under these terms, and the EU, especially France and Germany won't have it any other way, and that's how they're, the EU, isn't seeing eye to eye with the UK. Now Jacob Reese Mogg laughs it off saying bring on WTO/World Trade Organisation tariffs, we don't need a transitional period where UK doesn't have a say in the Express. https://www.express.co.uk/news/poli...-michel-barnier-transition-period-david-davis Seems like UK wants to be treated equal and France and Germany still want Brussels to have the final say.
Yes they seem to have backtracked on what has been agreed so far. It seems to have become unagreed. Eu said deadline for transition deal is this summer. I think there won;t be one. But UK negotiators are of the opinion that getting a deal is the most important thing and that all will be sacrificed for that goal. Same old UK negotiators. Is no one on this forum pro EU? Does no one here support a trade deal with the EU? Are we really as united in this as a country as we clearly are as a forum? No voice of dissent?
The Prime Minister is planning a speech on the matter. It only matters if we start listening to her, not The EU.
I think the issue is the disconnect between the individual countries and their apsiration and the EU "establishement" and their aspirations - left to deal with the krauts or the froggies individually then I think....I think there wouldn't be all this great big bruhaha. Trouble is the dickheads on the EU negotiating team playing god. They have this trouble getting past trade as an issue and all the other political and social synchronisation policy garbage.
Only a very small group of nutter-MPs believed in Brexit, and they are too weird to be put in charge, so this whole business, voted for out of spite and racism as far as the evidence goes, is being negotiated by people who don't believe in it but want careers. Since the new-brexiteers can't all benefit from this dishonesty, all the discussion is being carried out over loudspeakers to get the votes of the mugs, and the chances of their coming up with anything anyone in the EU can agree on hardly exists.
The EU is in new territory with Brexit. The UK isn't going to want to be treated like it was an EU country, but rather like it wasn't an EU country, like USA or Japan.
It will, of course, be treated like ****, a nuthouse run by careerist clowns, that throws away its biggest market
You mean like some Orwellian nightmare where we're being observed and lied to and controlled through lies and propaganda I presume; Kidding. IDK, politicians are idealistic privileged people who aren't immune from human error and weakness like greed. The best one's would have to be strong, influential and selfless. Who knows what the puppet masters wouldn't stoop to do?
Unlike all the conservative weirdoes I have some understanding of how people bargain. Just because your strange sect believe the world owes you a living it isn't therefore true.
The EU was a scapegoat used to blame somebody for not having any. Now that's gone, or going - We're now turning on each other. Saying this many billions of £ are being wasted a year of public money here here there instead of blaming it on the EU.
The best we can hope for is someone who knows his/her arse from his/her elbow, but at the moment that seems wildly hopeful.
clever chap...big whoop for you. And you think both factions are "bargaining" do you...for what.... a trade deal!!! Or a socio-political ideology?
I personally don't even think he's selfless, and to me, his strength comes off as annoying, not frightening. But that's in my own opinion.
Do you know why David Cameron became PM? Is because clearly, Great Britain lacks leadership. The last guy who had that was Tony Blair, before that with balls just as big, Margaret Thatcher... This country really doesn't have that sort of leadership. Blair gave the job to Brown who quit and David Cameron stepped in when no one won and then quit and now we have Theresa May... God... It's a wonder why more **** hasn't hit the fan.
Ah David.... such a visionary....scored well on the competency framework....looked good on telly....shame he was a prat.
Tried to ban porn, the guy who exposed his beastiality wound up fighting for his life.... He was a visionary though, but, that half blind Scot Gordon Brown quit because he didn't want to power share, and it's not like anyone voted for Gordon Brown.
