Tony Benn telling members of Parliament what it feels like to be the people being bombed and the responsibility one has for voting for something which is going to cost others so much but the consequences of which will not touch you.

The blame needs to be put on the Iraqi people for allowing a brutal dictator (Saddam) to rule over them for decades - Americans fought and died for FREEDOM, but Muslims don't often do that - not often enough, that is.

I think it's human nature to want to be free and live in freedom without the oppressive hand of government directing their lives. It could be, however, that the people in Russia, having lived so long under totalitarianism, might find the experience of democracy difficult...!

It's an ego thriving in a system allowing it to while simultaneously robbing Russians of the choice in the matter.

It's true that so long as their leaders, from Czars to Putin, run the nation with a Soviet-style fist, the only Russians that will enjoy democracy for themselves are those who have managed to leave the country....one way or the other!

    A reasonable comment.

However, as you should be aware, I am endeavouring to examine the factors that aid and abet the unnecessary persistence of war and poverty in our world, factors that are related to the coalition strike on Syria, and will need to be considered in any real solution.

Naturally Russia wants to maintain its access to that Syrian port as a warm water base for its navy; all sides are defending their own interests, as always.

You want to dump the UN because it's "useless", yet you insist on the veto which ensures the UN's uselessness.

    Such is the Conservative Soul.

Once again you seen confused as to what I had said....although I make no secret of my unsympathetic perspective regarding the UN as a force to maintain peace & security, I never insisted on keeping the veto....but rather merely predicted that this tool would never be forsaken by those that depend on it to safeguard their own position in any debate involving international disputes!

That is neither here nor there as it effects the use of chemical weapons by the Assad regime. Russia can have warm water port without being accomplice to the murders of a recognized war criminal!

Russian Sarmat missiles are liquid fuel ICBMs. That means they are standing with empty tank and need to be fueled by inexperienced soldiers before launch. At NASA fueling a rocket takes about a day. Rockets blow up on fueling stage, it happened multiple times in the past - and that’s when the fueling was done by very experienced people that handled many space launches in the past.
What are the chances that russian inexperienced handlers of these ICBMs, who know what to do only in theory, will be able to handle the fueling process without causing the rocket to blow up in its own silo?
Did you notice that Russian Sarmat test was done in proper launchpad, not in silo, and the rocket was prepared well in advance?
So, yeah, many of those ICBMs will blow up well before the launch.
Another point - how many times Russian rockets fail to deliver payload in orbit? So, take that ratio and apply towards ICBMs that don’t blow up. And after that add the complicated MIRV mechanism that needs to work perfectly after rocket was fueled and the payload reaches orbit and you’ll see some pretty sad (for Russia) probability of how many ICBMs will properly execute every step of their mission.

    Thanks for the clarification.

So, Putin would be averse to a deal guaranteeing the security and maximum sustainable economic development of Russia?

I saw Oliver Stone's 'Putin Interviews'; Putin said he regarded Senator McCain as a patriot (though anti-Russian) like
the Roman senator who (in the days of the Roman Empire) always reminded the Senate that "Carthage must be destroyed"
    (abbr. "Carthago delendo est").

Putin of course was identifying Russia with Carthage, in this quote.

A man with that level of awareness of history and the dynamic tension between empires (even if Russia is no longer the Soviet Union) ought to be credited with more sanity than you seem prepared to grant him.

    Is he a murderer?

What about the Ford massacre in the Great Depression, and the murder of Kent State Uni students during the Viet war, all sanctioned by 'democratic' US governments of the time.

It seems economic collapse and security threats destroy the morality of any government.

Not being a fan of Russia, I do not care one way or the other if Putin would be adverse or not to any deal that would prop up his regime....as his defense of Assad's atrocities is the topic on the table....not the benefits of economic development!

I'm not a big fan of John McCain either....he's a notorious RINO, and I trust him only marginally more than I do Putin.
As to what Putin regards about anything and anybody impresses me not in the least....I place him squarely with other dictators as someone the world needs to keep a watchful eye on!

The only thing different between Putin's Russia and the former Soviet Union is that they no longer call themselves the Soviet Union.....other than that, there is no discernible difference. The goals of territorial expansion are the same, the oppression and suppression of opponents is the same, the support & alliances of and with international dictators remain the same and the bellicose & threatening attitude against other nations are vintage Soviet Union. I can credit Putin with nothing positive!

How does one define a RINO, though? The Republican Party itself seems to lack any clear values with its current alt-right brain fungus, and it's long been primarily a party of helping the wealthy (at our expense) and BS social conservative issues, such as anti-choice and anti marriage equality.

For me it's someone who can easily switch sides in mid-stream...a politician who will tell you what you want to hear when they are a candidate for office but betrays your trust once elected. Like McCain!

Well, their powers are limited once they're in. It's not like a single congressman or senator can fulfill every promise - they have to compromise and negotiate, and of course deal with the full reality once they actually sit down to try and do what they've promised.

I don't know how exactly McCain has gone back on promises, though.

Sure, looks like there are 50 millions of trolls that voted for Putin in Russia :D

LOL...the election was a sham....no actual opposition allowed to compete....no international voting monitors. It was simply a dictator going through the motions! Get real!

So in your opinion, how many people have voted for Putin in reality in Russia? Any guess?

Well....when Obama was President, McCain complained incessantly about Obamacare and promised to get rid of the mess....but when the actual opportunity came to vote it out of existence, he did just the opposite and voted with the Democrat/Socialists to retain it!

I don't know....but it's just as irrelevant as the voting process in North Korea. Putin could have garnered 100% of the votes and it would have still been illegitimate & corrupt!!

Ah, but there was no good alternative proposed. It was ultimately a failure of the Republicans in power. It's not enough simply to repeal 0-care. We need a functioning health care system that doesn't leave people without coverage and unable to afford expenses.

That of course was the prevailing opinion....but I don't think that that was the case at all....I believe Obamacare was failing to such an extent that an immediate repeal was warranted!
