'In a matter of seconds, the two armed citizens became self-appointed protectors, moving to take up positions around the shooter, drawing their weapons and shouting for him to drop his. Time stretched and warped. There was an exchange of gunfire. The gunman was hit several times and fell. As Nazario and Whittle converged over the man to restrain him, police arrived. Unsure who was who, officers handcuffed all of the men and put them on the ground as the shooter bled out into the grass and died.' Read it carefully, WaPo is very disapproving and discouraging, classic dismissal of civilian self defense. granted it was a volatile, chaotic situation..that said the WaPo's tone of disapproval is obvious , especially when they imply he deserved a trial 'Tilghman did not kill anyone, and any sentence he might have faced had he been apprehended certainly would have been less than death.'..which is a common claim by the anti gun crowd these days...lets face it , any time you use force you will probably be arrested even persecuted (or prosecuted if you prefer )...it goes with the territory Source : https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...-sounds/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.cc6335813ead
Nazario and Whittle didn’t know each other, but they both went to their cars and worked together to take down the shooter. They then surrendered together to the police until the truth was discovered by authorities. The police didn’t overreact and I suspect nobody was charged with a crime. The criminal will never victimize anybody again. The stars aligned and gave this story a perfect ending.
If by "exceptional" you mean "so rare as to be statistical anomalies", yes active shootings are rare, and more so to occur where there is armed resistance immediately available.
Of course they disapproved. It goes against the narrative. "Time stretched and warped". Who writes this crap?
According to the FBI, armed private citizens have successfully stopped eight percent of active shooter situations in a two year period. That amounts to approximately fifty separate incidents where someone legally carrying a firearm, other than law enforcement, have been instrumental in preventing a mass shooting from coming to fruition, simply because they were able to respond faster than law enforcement could arrive, and could do more than run and hide for their lives like the victims. https://crimeresearch.org/2018/05/n...t-holders-but-misses-at-least-half-the-cases/
Only if there was enough blood to kill the roots. Grass generally recovers well from spray paint or blood in a few weeks -- a small price to pay when it makes the world better.
Nope. We're supposed to put on Cream and have a listen to "I'm so Glad" over and over and over again.
Wow, the guys did exactly what anybody with common sense would want. They stopped the shooter without harming anybody else. Glad that happened in Oklahoma, and not DC.
Relish the moment. Cheer what two good men accomplished. It's not as good as Mama Black Bear defending her children in her SUV, but it's pretty damn good.
Is that a good or bad thing? To me, it's irrelevant. To me the important thing is that they stopped the bad guy from hurting others.
