Last week, Shoko Asahara, leader of the Aum Shinrikyo cult was executed. Back in 1995 he led his followers into releasing sarin gas in the Tokyo subway system. In that attack, 13 people died and over 1,000 were injured. 2 months later after connecting the attack to the cult Japanese authorities raided his compound where Shoko was found hiding in a hidden room. After almost a decade of legal holdups and delays, the trial was finally held and he was found guilty in 13 of 17 charges and sentenced to death. During his trial he remained silent other than occasionally muttering to himself, in an attempt to be found insane, but it failed. Finally on 6 July, he and 6 other members of his cult behind the attack were executed by hanging at the Tokyo Detention House.
6 more to come. Funny how Japan executes prisoners with no notice given to anybody. Normally when a retrial is asked for, the execution waits. But not this time.
Their requests for retiral have been rejected by the Supreme Court. Only dozens from the upper echelon of the doomsday cult have been convicted so far. Hundreds of others escaped justice and resumed their terrorist activities under different group names such as Aleph. It's feared that Asahara's followers on the loose will strike again out of retaliation.
Japan has one of the lowest homicide rate in the world. At the opposite of the western leftist who pitty the criminals without caring for the victims, Japan understood that the best is to be harsh against that kind of criminals. French and british should learn from Japan on how to deal with that kind of people. Not for the attackers themselve who died in the attacks, but for the imams who formed them and the scums who helped them. That's what I dislike about human rigth activists, they care a lot about the right of criminals, thieves, but they don't care about victims. There is a jewish proverb I agree with, without liking that much this religion, "mercy to a wicked is cruelty to a benevolent one".
Japan has a very close-knit culture and traditional way of doing things. That's one of the benefits of common sense border control and not allowing just any POS into the country, let alone let them come in to undermine the culture and social fabric of the community.
