I personally never really watch preseason. This year though I'm interested in watching so many rookies that I watched some of the games. Baker Mayfield- Looked solid. Still not going to start in the regular season unless T-Mobile tanks in practice Pats young guys looked okay. I'll be posting on this thread as the season progresses.
Jints had a dismal 3-13 record last year and I am not sure they have improved very much. Thus, they are not a good measure of a QB's true season long potential. Mayfield may have to show more to prove he is worthy of being the Browns starting QB. Last year the Atlanta Falcons had a much more respectable season and they look formidable again this season. Jets QB Sam Darnold's work was even more impressive than Mayfield as his passes against them were very precise. Got one TD but was relieved by the team's vet passers.
Johnny U at age 41: Brady at age 41: Looks a bit younger and less trampled upon. Good thing the NFL changed their rules so that you cannot pummel the QB like they did in the old days. One thing about Johnny U - no doubt he was the greatest QB of his time and perhaps of all time. In those days he was steamrolled in every game he played. Yet, never once did he ever hit back. Never. The guy had class and character the likes of which you just don't see anymore.
Brady doesn't get pummeled? He takes more sacks than most Qbs. He isn't a runner (if you couldn't tell lol), and he doesn't want to risk interceptions so he takes the hits. Sure, sometimes he just falls to the ground, but he's trying to avoid injury. Players now are much stronger, more agile, and more steroided out than ever before. Johnny U was great, NO DOUBT, but could he withstand a defense like today? Impossible to compare. -That aside, the Redskins already losing their starting RB for the year. Looks like the Dan Snyder curse lives on!
Darnold reminds me of Matt Stafford......if you set out to build the prototypical NFL QB it would be him. Mayfield reminds me of Montana.....he has the ‘it’ factor that you can’t define......but you know it when you see it.
No question he has the arm. But being NFL starting QB takes a very special kind of athlete - not just athleticism, but composure, leadership, charisma, and the ability to instill confidence in his mates. The talk appears to be that he is the greatest QB in NYC since Namath. That's saying quite a lot and I hope the commentators are correct (except when he plays against the Jints). https://www.google.com/search?q=nfl...=UTF-8#sie=m;/g/11hdb0smyb;6;/m/059yj;dt;fp;1
11-5 last year during the regular season but I wonder whether they strengthened themselves all that much in the off season. While they should have a decent year, I don't believe they were projected as a sure bet for the Super Bowl this year. But we shall see ...
I like watching the preseason in order to get familiar with my team's draftees and free agents. I would think this is true of all dedicated fans.
What week do you believe they will start Mayfield? I think week 4. T-Mobile won't be able to withstand the pressure of having Baker behind him. Baker's probably doing really well in practice too
That sounds about right to me.........but don’t underestimate the stupidity of Hue Jackson.......he is 1-31...........
I loved Management's response when the reporter asked whether his job was safe. "Oh yes. His job is safe" and she was like "He only won a single game...".
I briefly saw their draft choices and Fox determined it was B - Thus, a half way decent draft. Free agent pickup DL Suh has always been an impact player and you wonder how much he's got left after all these years and all the controversy he's caused. I thought picking up DB Marcus Peters was a superb move as he is a bit under rated but, like Suh, creates controversy. Yes, the team is stronger but are the moves they made enough? We shall see ...
NYG > NYJ 22-16 for many years this pre-season match was always played with a great intensity that often led to an on field brawl between the teams while well played, I did not see any such intensity or animosity still an entertaining match
Everyone is afraid of getting hurt before the regular season. IMO, there should be a max of two preseason games.
Sam Darnold will be starting QB ~ youngest in recent league history: http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/f...-darnold-bridgewater-deal-20180829-story.html Jets traded away Bridgewater who had showed great promise in his brief time with the Vikings but who spent far too much time on the DL (and I don't mean defensive line). Vikes wasted millions in salary cap money that could have been used to buy free agent contracts to shore up certain positions. Instead, they kept him on the bench collecting millions without contributing to the team's success.
SI analysis: Vikes most complete team in NFL due to off season acquisitions https://www.si.com/nfl/2018/08/29/vikings-betting-preview-nfl-win-total-over-under-odds Yet, they say their record will not be as good as last year: Vikings 2018 win total: 10 Vikings 2017 record: 13-3 I may be reading this wrong (?). Anyways, I do agree that the defense appears stronger but the game is won on the trenches. The OL is probably a bit weaker than last year with injuries and the recent, untimely death of the OL coach.
