How many home invasions are there a year in the US?

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, 1.03 million home invasions occur each year.Aug 5, 2017

I doubt it, but the data says that "29% of violent victimization by strangers involved multiple offenders". If such an encounter turns violent, one should be prepared.

The issue was about shootouts with multiple assailants.

No, the question was how many times does a victim face multiple assailants. About 30% of the time.

So how many rounds should you carry on your person around your house? You know, in case it turns into the OK Corral and you can't crawl to your ammo stash?

If the homeowner is not present the crime is classified as a burglary, not a home invasion.

    What is home invasion?
Home invasion is the unlawful entry of someone's home. It usually involves some type of force. The person has the intent to commit a crime (whether he does or not). The legal occupant of the home may or may not be present.

I wasn't responding to that claim, but to the questions asked in 190 and 192 with regards to how many times does an assault involve multiple assailants. That number that I gave describes the opportunities to have to defend oneself against multiple attackers.

Not sure where you got this definition, as you didn't provide a source, but in the DOJ report I linked it defines it thusly:

“Home invasion” has been used broadly to describe any crime committed by an individual unlawfully entering a residence while someone is home. More narrowly, home invasion has been used to describe a situation where an offender forcibly enters an occupied residence with the specific intent of robbing or violently harming those inside.

That's the official US government definition.

Except that the post of mine you responded to was in response to the claim...

    Context is everything.

Fair enough. But I still don't know of any prolonged shootouts occurring during home invasions.

True, but the information I provided showing the number of multiple assailant assaults is what you plan for. Planning for what happened isn't planning.

Indeed it is. Otherwise there would be no legitimate reason for so many politicians to be calling for so many firearm-related restrictions to be implemented.

In Dec. 1967 my Infantry Company was ordered to the rear area for a 48-hour standdown to rest up. We had been in the bush for 4 months rotating on and off FOBs, LZs, etc, while operating in the field. When we got to the rear and went to the mess hall, they asked us to leave our weapons outside. We said, oh no, we don't go anywhere without these.

That was Vietnam people. America isn't a war zone. A certain amount of caution is a good idea, but you're getting carried away.

So you want more people to arm themselves?
