The education argument fails if one cannot add attainment in the second and third and fourth generations.

It used to work and now it does not work. Look at europe twisting their free speech laws to accommodate islam by making it illegal to talk negative about mohhamad. Look at colleges making black only college events. Multiculturalism worked until the left ruined it and therebis no going back now.

Multiculturalism is the direct opposite of a melting pot.

Yup. Nazis opposed multiculturalism by viewing it as a threat to their rigid thinking and self righteous lack of open mindedness.

Can we not do multiculturalism in moderation?

Socrates said: "Everything in moderation......nothing in excess."

    True wisdom

Alien cultures are interesting. Can we not allow SOME aliens among us to experience first hand their ways and traditions? They can teach us and bring us new foods to enjoy.......new tastes and sensations. French fries.........Tacos..........PIZZA!!!

As long as they are few they could even be permanent residents.......to enlighten and entertain us.

As with the dancing of Mr. Bojangles.......these things can thrill us, make us laugh and be a hedge against the mundane life.

As long as they know their place in our culture......as long as they do not start to demand "rights"........they can be a positive aspect of our life in the U.S.

As long as they are few.

As long as they are few.

    Clearly..........in excess they destroy.

I'm curious where you got the idea that most of the immigrants coming here are professional types.

It works great. You could say our success depends on it

I think you got time periods mixed up. Immigrants aren't building railroads anymore, they are collecting welfare checks instead

The problem isn't black americans versus white americans, the potential problem will be the end of assimilation into american culture and embracing multiculturalism, where immigrants maintain their own culture instead of assimilating into american culture. The problem of course comes from the fact that division within any society creates conflict, disorder and problems that we throw tax dollars at. Anyone who is for multiculturalism simply doesn't understand that division should never be intentionally created, and multiculturalism does this, inevitably. A lack of rational, logical thought has created this goal of multiculturalism.

From my own perspective in Australia multiculturalism works. It can be contrasted with the policy of assimilation which requires the elimination of culture held by new settlers and which I think is unreasonable. It is a bit like integration but without the implied requirement to become "Aussiefied". The good thing about it is that it doesn't require official oppression. As long as new settlers obey the law (as much as anyone obeys our laws at least), it works fine.

It has been a western culture since day one. All cultures change in some ways, it can move from the big band sound being what people listen to into rock and roll, into disco, into hip hop and rap. I am not referring to these changes, indeed my point was that assimilation is much less prone to creating division than non assimilation. It is a fact. I assume you agree with the fact.

I let people choose whatever they want. Local control within the limits of the constitution and federal law. It does not bother me in the slightest

To be more clear our constitution does not require a western culture. It requires we respect the will of the people.

I think a responsible person should be concerned with what would create division, conflict and disorder in any society, and work hard to intelligently try to to do that, by unintelligent policy.

You could not care less. I think that is a destructive irresponsible mindset to have. I prefer responsible, concerned, very serious people, who would not invite division and what that will create.

I respect the constitution and the will of the people. Nowhere is a western culture required. Dont you?

There is more to a nation, a society than its constitution. Like the culture that the constitution and western values created and was sustained by assimilation into it.

Your attitude seems rather to come from Shiva the Destroyer, of Hinduism.

I just do not think a belief in multiculturalism is at all well thought out. But to the contrary.

That is so juvenile, to say that. And quite the leap you made. ha ha

This decision I speak of was made long ago, out of intelligence and common sense.

    Fascists always say that.

In fact, the supposedly homogeneous Volk of the Reich (one blood, one language, one people) were destroyed by 'mongrel' nations, the USA and the USSR, made up of many languages, cultures, peoples, and beliefs.
