It comes down to economics, why spend $115,000 on a Hellfire missile to take out one Islamist jihadist and anyone near enough to be labeled an unlawful combatant or as collateral damage when one .25 cent bullet can accomplish the same results ?

A Jap airplane with a Kamikaze pilot in the cockpit was a precision guided missile. (PMG)

    mis·sile
    Dictionary result for missile
    /ˈmisəl/
    noun
    1. an object which is forcibly propelled at a target, either by hand or from a mechanical weapon.

And exactly how many kamakaze attacks were successful in knocking out targets in built up cities with minimized civilian casualties?

A .25 cent bullet taking out a jihadist would be the optimal solution. Except you can’t always see your target to aim at it.

But what you’ve advocated yourself is using a barrage of 5-inch artillery to take out a single jihadist with a $40 RPG who fired from a blind alley in the middle of a residential neighborhood. I guess murdered civilians and the insurgent recruits they would produce don’t have monetary value to you.

That is not true. That’s just an empty talking point.

You avoid urban warfare if you can.

If you find yourself in an urban warfare situation you always leave an escape route open for the enemy hoping to catch them out in the open where you can destroy them using a blocking force.

During the Battle of Hue an escape route for the NVA was there but they decided to make a stand and die.
If they were have used the escape route they would have met a blocking force or American soldiers and ARVAN troops.

It wasn't until the Saigon government declared the entire city of Hue as a free fire zone when the 1st Marine rifle regiment (1/1) started the beginning of eliminating an entire NVA division from the NVA Order of Battle.

The VC were also involved during the Battle of Hue.
The VC (National Liberation Front) were South Vietnamese civilians. Three types of VC, Main Force VC, Regional Force VC and unlawful combatant VC who were farmers during the day time and guerrilla fighters at night.

Main Force VC wore distinctive uniforms and so did most Regional Force VC but not always.
Regional Force VC committed most of the atrocities against their own fellow Vietnamese.
    It's what commies do.

Because the VC were civilians and South Vietnam citizens in rebellion against the Saigon government, when we did capture a VC we turned them over to ARVAN because they came under South Vietnam's laws.

[IMG]The elaborate Communist command structure was supervised by multiple directorates and divided South Vietnam into operational zones.

Why do you insist on deflecting with bullshit rather than actually addressing a post?

Bullshit. It was a civilian target, and deliberately so.

So the military bases, war industries, and transportation links in the city didn’t exist?

When the US targeted the ball bearing factories in Schweinfurt (a definite military target) the vast majority of deaths were civilian too.

Laser guided bombs didn’t exist in 1945. It was impossible to attack strategic targets in cities without massive civilian casualties.

Don't need to, all I have to do is look at the books my nephews and nieces are using.

They are being taught that the American Civil War was fought to end slavery and the two pages of actual print on the Vietnam War no mentioning of SEATO or that the NVA and VC got their butts whooped to a bloody pulp during the Tet Offensive of 68.

They even been indoctrinated that the battle lag of the Army of Northern Virginia was the flag of the Confederate States of America.

Look at your own words. “Targeted the ball bearing factories,” not annihilated the city in one cataclysmic explosion.”

You know we wouldn’t have done that even if we could have then. You know why.

The targets of the Hiroshima bombing were all of the means of warmaking the Japanese had in the city.

Are you entirely unfamiliar with the history of strategic bombing of cities during WW2?

Ok, thanks for answering. I am there every single day. I have been teaching history for 25 years. I teach history every day it is still being taught by the other history teachers it in the school where I work as well and in all of the other schools and all of the other teachers that I know very well. People pick up talking points online and then parrot them over and over based on nothing but feelings, frustration, and assumption.
