science doesn't support God, the Big bang was only the begining of this universe, not the beginning of everything

but the fact remains, replacing the "unknown" with "God" as a place holder is not proof of a God, cause then you have to explain how a God came to be

The Samritans were not the Sumerians. They were Apostate Jews around 715 BC when the Assyrians evicted them. During the Jewish restoration under the Reign of Cyrus the Great the Persians introduced more people into the area who also adopted Jewish religion and Traditions without ever becoming full fledged Jews.

IN fact the reason the old religion - the cult of Baal also practiced by the Phoenecians and their last surviving colony Carthage destroyed by the Romans- was despised and not just by the Jews but by most everyone else was their use of copious quantities of human sacrifice including new born babes who were burned on bronze idols heated red hot. Both the Bible and the Romans described the practice and Archeologist have found lots of little tiny bodies partially reduced to ashes buried in urns informing us that neither were lying.

No you don't. A God who always has been and always will be works just fine.

You know how you don’t believe in all those other gods? That’s how I don’t believe in your god too.

So you think it's just a coincidence you were born into the 'right' god, do you?

Why do you think there's a time or any other limitation. If god exist, he exist independently of your personal beliefs. And since he's supposed to be omnipotent and omniscient then if he put that much importance to what a single human belief he would make sure that you'd be a believer from birth to your death. I take his/her non intervention, if he/she exist, as a sign that us believing or not as no impact whatsoever to his/her masterplan and whatever he/she decides to do with your soul after your death.

After all, there's nothing but your belief that all good person go to heaven and the bad to hell. He/she may on a whim decide that the next 1,000,000 good souls be sent to hell or vice-versa. No one could do anything about it.

If you can't disprove something, calling the opposite fact is pure ignorance.

And you CAN disprove a negative, if there is evidence that it isn't true. For example, if some says the earth isn't round, you can disprove that claim, despite it being a negative, because there is evidence proving that the earth is round. You can not cite any scientific evidence proving that there is no god.

The annual Templeton Prize, which recognizes outstanding contributions to "affirming life's spiritual dimension," was awarded Tuesday to Brazilian Marcelo Gleiser -- a theoretical physicist dedicated to demonstrating science and religion are not enemies.

A physics and astronomy professor whose specializations include cosmology, 60-year-old Gleiser was born in Rio de Janeiro, and has been in the United States since 1986.

An agnostic, he doesn't believe in God -- but refuses to write off the possibility of God's existence completely.

"Atheism is inconsistent with the scientific method," Gleiser told AFP Monday from Dartmouth College, the New Hampshire university where he has taught since 1991.

"Atheism is a belief in non-belief. So you categorically deny something you have no evidence against."

"I'll keep an open mind because I understand that human knowledge is limited," he added.
    "Science does not kill God."

It has the potential to eventually do that. Science and knowledge is an ever evolving process. Many things that we couldn't prove or disprove in the past have been proven/disproven today. Many more will be tomorrow.

then so does energy that always was and always will be .. no God needed

E = MC2 - Energy and Mass can change over time as they are interchangeable

"God did it" ALWAYS works fine, as long as you actually believe that and don't care how things actually work.

"God did it" is the end of exploration of how this universe works right down to the smallest detail, as why would you look any further if you already had such a complete and unassailable answer.

The only way one can continue to look is to decide that there is a chance that god DIDN'T do it.

True - science has absolutely NO way of addressing the supernatural. Science depends on testing ideas, and there is no way for humans to test god.

However, religion CAN kill science. After all, the very premise that "god did it" means that looking further is heretical.

imho, the thing about religion and science is that humans need to be smart about which tool set they use. Religious tools do not help in any way to understand how our physical universe works. And, science has absolutely no way to address the supernatural.

Using one set of tools to address the other set of issues (or mixing tools, like with ID) gives absolute garbage.

    Wrong all all three counts.

If you believe that God did it then trying to understand how, and every bit as important why He did it is an act of Worship.

Obviously to know how God did it in order to reach a better understanding of God and your place in his marvelous work.

And strike three. Why would knowing that God did it make you desire any less to try to understand how and why he did it?

Co'mon man I know your smarter than that. Your response was really lame...

Apparently it wasn't and there isn't a scientist out there that won't tell you the big bang was the beginning of everything. Science point to a cosmic singularity a point infinitely dense and infinitely tiny. Christianity and Judaism point to a God who is infinite.

Sorry wrong. Sumer was on the Euphrates river near where it dumped into the into the Persian Gulf Samaria was some what to the north of Judea and adjacent to it. When the Ten northern Tribes split off from of From Judah and Benjamin, they made their capital at Samaria. By that time the Sumerian Empire had been extinct for close on to a thousand years.

The one they just did involving the forty foot Jesus statue. With luck this court will begin rolling back all these absurd ruling on public religious displays. And before you bother to ask I have no problem all if some Muslim dude wants to put up some sort of religious display on public property provided he pays for it out of his own pocket. You want to put up a Darwin fish statue in support of atheism I am also fine with that. As I said the government should not take sides in matters of religion.

Every body believes in something. Right now I believe supper is about an hour and a half away here at my house.

That ruling had nothing to do with separation of church and state.

false, most will say they do not know what happened before the big bang, not that it was the beginning of everything, just the beginning of our current Universe

theists use God as a place holder for the unknown....

oh I agree, the Sumerians were not around at the time of the bible, but the Bible was still based on it... it came first, the bible came after and was based on their texts
