With Preseason underway, does anybody have any early SB PIcks? Will New England repeat? How about KC, The Saints, or The Rams? Who else is in the mix? Discuss NFL 2019 here.
@AJ Thanks for starting the thread. This is the 100th anniversary for the NFL. Kudos to this great league for all the fun it has given us. However, here is an issue that needs to be addressed: the fact that several early league greats have been overlooked with regard to entry into the Hall of Fame. NY Giants great Charlie Conerly immediately comes into mind. While he is in the College HOF, he still is not in the NFL HOF despite leading the team to 3 NFL Championships and holding ten team records. He played at a time when defensive players were allowed to hit and attack the QB and his career (like that of many early greats) was interrupted by WW II. Please discuss who you nominate for the HOF and why they belong there.
I don't know why this site is acting up. I can't edit my last post AJ. Anyway, KC is lucky they get one Hill back
Interesting take on Conerly's Case: Charlie Conerly, QB, New York Giants One of these players is in the Hall of Fame: Player Record Cmp Att Comp % Yds... TD.. Int Y/A Rating Championships QB A.. 62-63-4 1886 3762 50.1.... 27663 173 220 7.4... 65.5...……. 1 QB B.. 58-31-1 1418 2833 50.1.... 19488 173 167 6.9... 68.2...……. 1 Player A is none other than "Broadway" Joe Namath, who made it into the Hall despite throwing more interceptions than touchdowns and owning a losing record. Player B is Charley Conerly, whose career ended four years before Namath's started. In other words, Namath played in a much more pass-friendly era and Conerly was still the better quarterback. Conerly's career was far less publicized because he played before the Super Bowl era and he didn't wear fur coats, but he took part in the game that many credit for the NFL's booming popularity in the 1960s. He was on the losing side of the Greatest Game Ever Played, an overtime contest between the Colts and Giants that captivated a national television audience. Heck, he was even the Marlboro man at one point. It's time to get him enshrined.
Yeah. Hill is back. The NFL announced on July 19 that he will not be disciplined for the investigation because the league felt he did not violate the personal conduct policy. Mahomes is also an early favorite for the League MVP.
The NFL can't keep their story straight for what a conduct policy violation is- even though it's in writing. I predict that he will throw a lot of INTs this season, but I also predict him throwing for more yards.
Honestly I'm most intrigued by the browns. Not their offense (which has the potential to be great- OBJ back together with Landry plus nick chubb in the backfield) but their young and talented defense.
Yeah, Landry as a good move. And, If Mayfield to OBJ really becomes thing, look out. (They gotta deliver on the hype). Here is a Great Article about the Browns 2019 (just published a few hours ago). https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/...-bold-predictions-for-clevelands-2019-season/
Rams are dependent on that run game. If the big man can keep it up in the back field, the Rams might have a chance to get back to the SB. The saints still have a LOT of power and a man that has proven he can WIN a championship and play at a high level. Also, let's be real, the Rams should have never made the SB last year. Had the PI call been made- Brees takes a knee and the rams have 8 seconds to go 75 yards after the kick. Rams are exposed because of a QB that sometimes plays at a high level- but sometimes doesn't play ANYWHERE close to it. That said- they built a powerful team around the QB- especially with the addition of Cooks last year. People get high on young QBs after a good season.
Keep an eye on their new rb. They picked up in the draft. A great addition in my opinion , very shifty and great hands.
Until someone proves otherwise. the Patriots remain the King of the Hill in the NFL. With Andrew Luck retiring the only team that can compete with them in the AFC is the Chiefs. The NFC is a more open question, but I'm inclined to think that the breaks are finally going to go the Saints' way this year. That being said, I'd like to see the Saints and the Chiefs in the SB, although it will probably be Saints-Pats.
I'm most intrigued by the Browns, too. On the downside, I'm interested to see how the Rams will fare after losing a starting guard and center from last year's O-Line. If their replacements don't step up the Rams could be taking a step down this year. A few other teams I'll be watching are the Bears, Colts, Eagles and Chargers. Will the Bears continue to improve? How will the Colts handle life after Luck (what a bummer)? Can the Eagles return to form now that Carson Wentz is healthier? Which direction are Phillip Rivers and the Bolts heading?
The colts will be very interesting. That SUCKS for the coaching staff. Now they will be pressured into showing results with Brissett without a "franchise" QB. Jacoby is a good QB. I think he's earned his spot to step up. I wish him well (except when he's playing against the Pats ). The Eagles are much better off without Wentz. He will never finish a whole season- he's broken.
The kid playing behind Brissett - Chad Kelly - has got a ton of potential. I watched him play a lot of games when he was at Ole Miss (my wife is an alum) and he was really impressive at times but he could be wildly inconsistent at others. He had a penchant for throwing interceptions at the worst possible times like Brett Favre used to do. Perhaps, Frank Reich can get him to play more under control the way Mike Holmgren did with Favre (?). Now that Foles is gone that could be a problem, which is fine with me. I hate the Eagles and their fans suck.
I'll be darned - small world. They're opening their season against Memphis tomorrow at noon. ABC is covering the game but I don't know if we'll get that local or not.
So great to see the NY Giants involved in community engagement: New York Giants Verified account @Giants Today we partnered w/ @ProjectKIND1 to host 100 men & women experiencing homelessness for a Worthy of Love Event. The day was filled w/ spa treatments, haircuts, new gear, lunch and a chance to speak w/ different service agencies in the area! https://twitter.com/Giants/status/1167567908999958528?ref_src=twsrc^google|twcamp^serp|twgr^tweet Many of the players come from poverty backgrounds and this is why so many are sympathetic to those unfortunates.
