Mozambique probes 'jihadists' beheadings Mozambican police on Saturday were investigating the deaths of two young men found beheaded in a northern province prone to jihadist attacks. Shadowy attacks blamed on Islamists have hit the gas-rich Cabo Delgado province for two-and-a-half years, claiming more than 700 lives. At least 100 000 people have been displaced by the violence, according to the United Nations and humanitarian agencies. https://www.chronicle.co.zw/mozambique-probes-jihadists-beheadings/ Stuff like this goes on in many parts of north-central Africa. Radical Islam combining the savagery of Africa is not a good combination.
Well ISIS being so far down is actually relatively new... as in recent years, Sub Saharan Africa have always been majority Christian and the North Muslim. Rising inequality, instability, deteriorating economic conditions, drought, famine and civil wars have created opportunity for ISIS to recruit in the South. The increasing activity cause devastation among the local populations because their governments are ill equiped to deal with the growing extremism. The extremists will also find themselves with a lucrative trade in refugees once South Africa falls. Mozambique have rich gas deposits along its coastline and there is major gas development near the north where extremist problems are, obviously ISIS is also going after the resources.
Well, it's actually not so new. Islam reached down into the fringes of Sub Saharan Africa centuries before European Christian missionaries arrived on the shores. This map may give you some idea of what the dominant religions are in each area of Africa. This part of Africa has a long and somewhat complicated history many people are not familiar with.
