Rate Trump's pandemic response

As apparently, are the instincts of vast numbers of Americans. I hear many are still out and about as much as usual.

 

We had the same problem here, with a wishy washy leader who was initially more concerned about the economy than saving lives. Millions of us self-isolated and took our kids out of school anyway, and he got the message. He stalled on full lock down, and the people were incredibly frustrated by that. 99% of us wanted the strictest regulations possible.

 

Do you know how to avoid spreading it to others, in the event that you're low symptomatic or asymptomatic? Because that's what really matters.

If social isolation works, and your cases drop dramatically as they have in every country where people are sheltering in place, you'll say "see, we didn't need no MRE's and bunkers!" It's so inevitable that there are already jokes about it.

 

With that thinking, we should just quarantine every flu season. And not drive cars. We can walk around in our bubble wrap and be safe.

If we shut down for 18 months, it will be far worse than the 1929 depression.

 

That 18 months is for vaccine, not 'kill the virus'. And yes, we should remain shut down until a vaccine is found .. unless we're island nations/states with closed borders and zero community transmission.

Not at all. This is very different to the regular flu. FAR more infectious, and doesn't behave exactly like flu in its more severe phases.

Widespread testing along with very available PPE and tight Social Distancing was the key, ALL the epidemiologists knew it and Trump was told that very thing since before he became President. The difference was that the Koreans followed science and we followed Dear Leader's gut. Orange Man's internal organs said that ALL we needed to do was bash yet another group of furriners and all would be well. Didn't work, surprise, surprise.

 

Then prepare for 40% unemployment and a crime wave like we’ve never seen.

It will be a dystopian world if we shut down for 18 months.

 

Yes, and? WWII lasted six years, and the people survived the deprivations and trauma. Crime didn't run rampant, and no one starved.

 

The Great Depression saw similar unemployment figures, and we came out of it. Many people lived through the Depression, then 10 years later the War. Yet even then, most didn't resort to crime. Little or no welfare, either.

You appear to think Americans are horrible, selfish, weak people .. who can't tolerate a lifestyle disruption without losing their sh!t.

With respect, Koreans are FAR more compliant as a people, and did not resist Govt regulations/requests. They didn't make it all about their own immediate comfort .. they were very willing to do what they had to do to ensure a quick resolution.

 

With all due respect it appears that may actually be true for Trumpers, and the only real hardship I can see is that the bars are closed

 

Oh Stop it, willya. Koreans are humans like you and me, not some sort of superior beings. With respect, the only difference is that they had good responsive common sense government committed to doing the right thing, not an incipient dictator who sees himself as elected by God and the KGB to enrich his family and a cadre of gangsters at our expense.

 

Amazing someone would suggest that considering 17 million are out of work now. 600k infected and 17 million out of work, we are going to have to have serious discussions about this moving forward and will need to be able to do both. I think this virus awoke America moving forward on what to expect and how to stay safe yet work like several countries did.

Maybe in America, it's conservatives doing the resisting. It's the opposite here. It's the richer, urban folk who keep going out to 'exercise'. Rich urban folk in this country are almost always Leftists.

America today is far different than it was in the 1930’s.

We were a melting pot back then, and unified. Today we’re multicultural and fractured. And this isn’t the era of Bing Crosby and Bob Hope. America today is all about hip hop and thug culture.

You are entirely wrong, actually. Koreans are utterly different to Americans, when it comes to things like authority and compliance. It's a very very different culture, and it's a monoculture - meaning it's had centuries to distil and purify. There is no comparison.

Had Trump tried the Korean approach, a huge proportion of Americans would have considered it a personal assault. To rebel and resist would have been a common response. Look how many are resistant now .. without harsh regulations.

 

Them's the breaks. Maybe you guys will think twice about unbridled immigration in future.
