They tend to honor officers and other higher-level folks who were, indeed, primarily fighting to preserve slavery, all while engaging in historical revisionism. I can't think of any group that has done more to actually try to erase Civil War history than they have. They've definitely done more to do so than anyone who has taken down a statue.

I wasn't shocked by the quote. I mean, it is Cotton. Still I was shocked that he not only refused to walk it back any, he reiterated it and now all his buddies are backing it up.

Slavery was no more "necessary" than killing 6 million Jews during WW2. Those murders "contributed" to where the world is today but, "NECESSARY?" A mind must exist in a terrible place to say that.

Not nitpicking. I am being historically and logically factual. You apparently are just trying to schiest on ,the political party you do not like .... Facts are on my side.

Fascist is a very stupid and incorrect thing to call slave holders. They were farmers from large to middle sized and even smaller scale farmers.
The political term "fascist" is nonsense when talking about plantation owners / slave holders. You are using it because you are trying to schiest on Biden sho is a Democrat and who is running against Trump a make believe Republican. Emphasis on make believe.

Your entire fixation on trying to schiest on the Democrats of old has one purpose. To schiest on Biden because Biden is running against Trump who is a phoney baloney Not real Republican. So schiesting on Democrats of old makes you think you are painting Biden as a slave owner.
You entire fixation on the 19th century Democrats is nothing but raw stupid inane political BS.

If I remember my history lessons correctly, the only way the Southern states would sign off on the Declaration of Independence was if slavery was left alone.

The role slavery played in secession and the Civil War, as opposed to the "Lost Cause" myth pushed by the Daughters.

I’d say they are both true, depending on who you are talking to during that time period. That’s not rewriting history, that’s looking at history from another perspective. The victors get to write the historical narrative, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t other equally valid points of view.

No, allowing the South to keep it, in order to from the USA, that was the evil. I suspect you know that, but what the hell, you prob think the moon landing was a hoax, and Trump colluded with the Russians, so.....

Well first off, he is not replying to any post, so there is zero context for his comments. Secondly his statement sounds satirical and sarcastic in nature. I don't know what he means.

So no, I have no comment on it.

Don't tell me you ran out of paint now, for that broad brush of yours.

BTW, I'm done with this side bar discussion.

Yes I'm very triggered. It shows that the POTUS was correct about our education system. How is it that millions of my fellow citizens be that unaware of the nuances of our history. You treat it as though the framers were making 21st century decisions. They weren't, they couldn't. If they did, we're still subversive to the English or to competing Americana powers. Let me trigger you back: If the framers did start the civil war,its wholly possible that the North would've lost. There was no standing army or a national currency. Hell the ties to the union was even more loose than 1861. You should be grateful that the framers had as much foresight as humanly possible and preserved a Republic where we could be free and where today we are free!

Calling Palin "so called" reflects on McCain, who got her to sign on and then like the weasel he was blamed her for losing. As for Africa? Ask any ten Democrats to name more than three African nations. See how THAT one goes.

If Palin caused McCain to lose, then she did America a great favor. Had his daddy not been an admiral, his "distinguished" Navy aviation career of flight deck accidents would have turned out far differently. Had he not been a repulsive two-faced backstabbing RINO, he might have some day made an OK Republican.

Odd thing how libs rewrite history to fit their present prejudices. Don't even try to understand, that's not the way the cool kids are supposed to think.

It's ironic that slavery was eradicated in the US but still exists in Africa, huh.
