Trump's space force is an expensive and unnecessary escalation of the arms race. When will Republicans understand the contradiction between desiring tax cuts, balanced budgets, and a more expensive military? We already spend more on our military than Russia, China, and several other countries combined. It is not possible to cut taxes, raise military spending, and balance the budget without cutting or eliminating domestic spending items the vast majority of Americans and at least a plurality of Republican voters will insist on keeping. Republicans should have learned that during the Reagan administration, but they still don't get it. The government grew to its present size in response to popular demand. Every item in the domestic budget has a powerful constituency to protect it. The largest and most expensive programs are the most popular.
Trump's Wall was another expensive and failed Trump vanity project - something Trump could put the name "Trump" on. A much less expensive and more effective way to deter illegal immigration is to punish employers who hire illegal immigrants and to punish landlords who rent to them. Republican politicians do not like that idea because employers and landlords make up most of the Republican Donor Class.
