Is the NL DH still a possibility? We answer the most pressing questions two weeks before baseball is scheduled to return.
I disagree. Pitchers are getting paid too much money to risk getting injured running the bases. (For example, Bauer just signed a deal for $40 Million a year, and other top pitchers are making well over $30 million a sesson). It is too much of a risk for them (or their teams and fans) to have to worry about freakish injuries on the base paths.
Either they play the game or they don't. They are at no greater risk running the bases than anyone else.
Cactus and Grapefruit games start soon. You have to wonder whether there will be those attending the games. Probably they might limit the number who can attend.
I wonder what kind of restrictions Florida will have? They would seem to be more open to allowing fans.
ESPN: What we know (and don't know) about start of MLB spring training, regular season and rule changes ". . . Spring training is expected to start with limited fans throughout Florida and Arizona, pending local approval. The Boston Red Sox announced plans to have 24% capacity at their games in Fort Myers, the Houston Astros and Washington Nationals have spring training tickets on sale now, and the Arizona Diamondbacks, Colorado Rockies, Miami Marlins, Pittsburgh Pirates and St. Louis Cardinals are among teams that have announced plans to start spring with limited fans in attendance. While it is too early to know what attendance will look like during the regular season, the Rays are one team that has announced a specific plan -- in their case, 7,000 fans allowed at Tropicana Field -- for the start of the season in April. . . . I think I might have to agree with you on this issue. By AJ's logic the pitchers should have a special cabana with a massage table setup when their team is at bat.
Nah. That is just hyperbole on your part. Pitchers are getting paid too much money to chance getting hurt running the bases.
