Not necessarily. If we fought hard and relentlessly we should kick the Russians ass.

I know. I just want to live in La La Land and pretend we can all get along. ;-)

Seriously, I'm more worried about my children. They are teens now so will be voting in a few more years. It all just seems an awful mess.

No reason voting should be messy.

No. I meant the state of the world. Sorry for any confusion.

The "state of the world" is always going to be relatively messy. But when looked at objectively it has gotten better over the last few decades.

Bison, California Condors, and Bald Eagles.

In this instance, distance, and logistics would heavily favor Russia. Without belaboring the point --

Distance from Washington D. C. to Kiev, Ukraine: 4,864 miles
Distance from Moscow, Russia to Kiev, Ukraine: 469 miles

. ... and, reading signs like this would not be a problem for Russians... but, for us...? :confusion:

similar numbers didn't help Argentina during the Falklands War.

Believe this if nothing else, Dayton -- Russia ain't Argentina! :oldman:

“Stop Mines” in both Russian and Ukrainian. (Mine field)

Going to war with Russia over some Ukrainian oligarch’s wet dream of ethic genocide of Russians that have inhabited those lands before ‘Ukraine’ ever became a fake country....now that would be idiotic. If this happens, they should call it the Fake News War. Biden is far too busy letting his soldiers change genders (in their minds) at taxpayers expense than wondering what that sign says.

We might win in the end, but it will be brutal and have a high death toll. Russia is not some pushover third world military. They are second only to us. Do not underestimate their capabilities.

150,000 Americans would be acceptable if we could kill at least 500,000 Russians.

Hopefully nowhere near that many die on either side. That's triple what we lost in the Vietnam war. I have a feeling it would end up being of no benefit to anybody, just like the Vietnam war was.

    Have you served?

    Have you served in combat?

Do you plan to put your personal arse on the line to fight the ruskies in a future war?

If no to any of the above, but particularly the last question, where do you get off saying a loss of 150,000 Americans is acceptable? Who do you think you are? Henry Kissinger or Paul Wulfowitz?

Adolf Hitler did and look what happened to him.

One major EMP "event" over Nebraska and it would be lights out. Best to avoid war when possible. At least with an enemy with any degree of technology.

Yup. If history is any guide, they will fight hard as hell, especially in their homeland. Hopefully it doesn't come to that.

    1) I'm too old to fight in any war.
    2) I'm an American citizen, history teacher who has thoroughly researched the issues of what is in American interests.
    3) Every American soldier in our military volunteered (many multiple times) to fight in what our leaders see as in the our nations interests.
    4) I'm much smarter than Kissinger and Wolfowitz.

Many consider it Russian territory, and many ethnic Russians live there. They will certainly consider us invaders in any case, and that is what matters. People generally fight harder when defending their homeland against an invader. That's why we have had such a difficult time in Afghanistan and Iraq. They never give up in their homeland. They will have home court advantage. Russia outnumbers us in manpower, artillery, tanks, and nuclear weapons. We have more aircraft in total, but we will not have 100% of our aircraft there, and Russia will more than make up for it with very modern air defenses. Overall we have the technological edge, but not as much as we had 20 years ago.

Like I said, we would likely win in the end, but I don't know if the price will be worth it. It's not like we would be fighting to free Myanmar from a dictatorial and bloodthirsty regime. We would be fighting on the side of a government that some see as oppressors. Whether that is true or not, I don't have enough knowledge about. The morale high ground seems way more murky in this case. I'll have to look into it more.

You're an alarmist. In the end the only question will be the final death toll. And if the U.S. stays committed we can grind down the Russians to nothing.

And insurgents can never win a war.

Haha, that’s funny. Grind them down. That will never happen to Russia. They lost 25 million people in WW2 and still beat Hitler. What did the US lose, 350K?

Putin would never let his people get slaughtered as they were in WW2. He will use nukes long before then.

Zelensky is done. Just matter of time now. Even Biden isn’t so senile to know that starting a new war 100% guarantees he’s finished. Well unless Stalin himself rises from the grave and counts ballots in the next election.

All these sanctions have done for the last 7 years is made Russia stronger. They could be in Kiev in 7 days.

AND a standard of living that would be the envy of any Monarch in the Middle Ages,
indeed, any Monarch in 1900. We are becoming richer, freer, healthier, happier,
more peaceful, more entertained, cleaner, longer living ( well, maybe not happier,
it seems the more we have the more we complain.)
