none of these are "socialist" or "class warfare" or even very expensive compared with the costs of warfare or the other extravagances of the rich.

We have clean water. China is polluting our air, and making more laws elsewhere will not fix that.

Not all jobs are worth a living wage, and trying to pay it will just make things more expensive and will increase workers living expenses. Do you know what a feedback loop is? ...if you really want to help the working man, focus on the single largest cost of living- housing. Buying a home costs 10x more than it did 50 years ago relative to average income, and renting a home will always scale up to match the maximum that people can afford to pay, negating any and all wage increases in short order. To put simply- residential property values have to reduce substantially or nothing else we do will have any meaningful effect because housing will just keep scaling up to eat up the bulk of wages regardless of what those wages are.

You can have all the medicare you want as long as I don't have to help you buy it. I pay $50/mo for mine.

Find an objective way to measure gross individual productivity, and we can enforce 'equal pay for equal work.' Until then, we're all just guessing.

Make voting easier without making fraud easier and we have a deal.

    Define 'sensible' in objective terms.

    No arguments on infrastructure.

The OP sounds like a wish list that was tried in Cuba.

So we can spend billions on the military, but affordable daycare and college is out of our reach.

Seems that residential property values reducing substantially tends to crash the economy.

focusing on housing for a moment - the economics of labor and materials seem to favor new construction in the $200k and up range. nice homes in the exurbs but long commutes(on crumbling highways) to work and payments that require steady income beyond what you note most jobs to be "worth."

is the only solution to pitch a tent under the interstate? or would capitalism allow any kind of subsidized housing? the solution here in new orleans seems to be communes of squatters in abandoned warehouses, barely better than utter homelessness.

you seem to be describing an economy based on a house of cards. i am never selling this house, so i think a more reasonable value would lower my taxes ,,,,,

The only thing being built in our city are half a million and up houses or "luxury apartments" with rent starting above 2 grand.

We have places with free medical care, including dentistry. Free clothing, even free wash and fold. Even the education programs are free. You dont even have to pay a single light or water bill. If you need counselors or therapist, also free. All of these free services are centrally located, even your meals are free, you dont even have to do dishes. The security is second to none, no one will likely ever break in.

We call these places ''correctional facilities''.

such prime locations are sometimes preferable to homelessness.

Old school inmates like to say, "it's just like the military, you just can't leave and you don't get a paycheck".
I've been in both in my lifetime, I'd rather be homeless.

In Sweden, they have to pay for their health care. It’s not “free”.

"They" always pay for it. In Sweden about 97% of the cost is paid by the Govt via taxes collected. Their per capita healthcare spending is roughly half of ours.

I do not want Govt ran healthcare, but god knows we could do a better job here if it was not such a partisan issue.

Anyone seeking a good paying job with stability and awesome benefits should consider a career as a correctional officer.
They will hire any warm body with a clean record. Probably just need a minimum of a GED.

It’s not that high a percentage but it’s high. They pay over half their income in taxes to do it, too.

Of course, we subsidize their health care here in the US.

Of course, they face long lines and shortages, because that’s what capped prices do.

And the influx of rapeugees there has put a strain on their system.

Daycare is affordable to most working people. And remember daycare workers need a living wage, which most democrats support. College -- it's there if you want to work for it. Lots of students do. Don't ever resent the money spent on our military because it provides our freedom to choose daycare and/or college.

Dude we already have clean air and water except in China.

There is no such thing as a living wage that can be set by government edict and chasing that chimaera just drives inflation and create a two tiered society consisting of the very rich and the desperately poor. So you want a two tiered health care system where the rich fly to a foreign country and the rest 9f us wait months for an MRI on a bum knee while the condition gets worse and worse.
Affordable day care and college? Easy get the federal government out of them. The lady that used to run our day care at the church told me she spent about half her day filling out compliance paper work for one level of government or the other. It would help a lot to if college texts were so ruinously expensive. It isn't uncommon for a text to cost as much or more than the class.

We already have equal pay for equal work.
Voting is easier now than its ever been. Not sure I want people voting to damn lazy to wait in line anyway.
We already have all the gun laws we need. It might help if Democrats would enforce them.
It might help if Democrats would actually spend money allocated for infrastructure on infrastructure.
