Wait.... you don't know how to hunt tanks in an urban environment?
    How can that be?

How do you not know state legislatures have nothing to do with approving federal laws?

    I didn't say that.
I said states send representatives and senators to vote on federal issues.
They aren't going to vote against the interests of their own state, are they?

That reminds me of a quiet morning in rural France when I opened the front door and found a bloody big tank pointing down my driveway. I mean a seriously big bugger of a tank.
Two guys were visible, fully kitted out.
Not having my gun with me (ahem) I retreated indoors for a cup of tea ans a think about what to do.
When I next looked it had moved 500 yards down the road pointing into my orchard.
Then someone hopped out of the tank and walked up to me.
After a couple of thumps of my heart he smiled and said he was on manouvres and had made a mistake reading his map.
So all you gun lovers out there...you just might get away with it. Lets hope the enemy can't read maps.
    True story, honest.

    You said:
However since the federal law would have to be approved by state legislators, I don't se the problem.
So, yes you did say that.
    I ask again:
How do you not know state legislatures have nothing to do with approving federal laws?

I wasn't in an urban environment.
I dislike urban environments and avoid them diligently.
And since I gave never had to hunt tanks inan urban environment, it isn't something I put much effort into learning.
I rely on professional military to do that. If I ever need it.

Would you please frame that in the positive?
AFAICS a federal law is passed by Congress .
Are you telling me that state legislatures don't talk to senators and representatives to indicate preferences When lobbies do?

Not against a majority, even a state majority. Sure they might against an angry few, but not against a popular movement.

Indeed. Though the Taliban would not have lasted half so long without backing. So, as long as the rebels had popular backing from a state or individuals in America then they could grind a war out for decades.

I have forgotten the actual words we were using but it was about the government fighting its own people, yes?
Trump tried to encourage just this in his rallies, in his language and presentation to such an extent that the 2 sides are, as some in here have admitted, more divided than anyone can remember.
I hope you are right and maybe something will come along to pull the sides together in countering a larger threat.
But what seems to be the popular mind set now is the thoughtless our side vs your side
James O'brien calls it the footballisation of politics . He is a well known radio presenter in the UK.
It can't go on. Otherwise there will be a serious culture war which will have to be contained.
The UK echoes this, though maybe not so sharply. Brexit did it and if covid and Ukraine hadn't happened, the divisions it created would I think maybe not needed the army but there would have been deeper divisions in the country.

So, your "are you going to shoot your rifle at the tank coming done the street" nonsense is based on the the fact you have no idea what you;re talking about.
    Fair enough.

America will always been an armed Camp. Were the greatest fighting force in the world and we teach our children young how to fight and to shoot young. We are the modern day Spartans. Yeah we have sheep in this country, Europe, and the rest of the world. But don't worry we will always be there when you need us no matter how much you scoff at our way of life. Give me an American Riflemen over any other nations soldiers in the world. You just keep bleating and eating your grass. American men are never far way to keep the wolves off you.

    Move the goalposts much?
Even it that were the case - and rarely, is it, as Democrat congressmen don't care in the slightest what a GOP-controlled legislature thinks - - 'discussing' the issue with a state legislature is a FAR cry from getting legislative approval from the state legislature.

Do you think shooting a gun at a tank will stop it?
That of course if you can get close enough before it detects you.

I'm sorry - by your own admission, you cannot have an informed discussion on this issue.

    Nice dodge.
    Now answer my post.
I don't have to have experienced an elephant to know it is big.
I have experienced a tank in my driveway and know that no gun you can hold will permeate its surface.
And I have experienced a small cannon going off to know it can put a bloody big hole into a concrete wall. I can imagine what a tank can do.
Anything else I need to have experienced to know?
    Now its your turn.
You tell me how in your experience you can stop and/or take out a tank with a gun.
    I'll wait.

You have to remember that despite Trumps encouragement and constant claims of rigged voting, only a few hundred Americans stormed congress. And even now the vast majority of Republicans are not entertaining the idea of insurrection. They want change, some even want Trump re-elected, but very few indeed want civil war.
