When the word 'curry' is used, those using it are doing so to indicate a flavour. They're not even thinking about bloody India - any more than you are thinking about China when you decide to eat rice, or Germany when you eat Wurst.
Exactly. HER issue. People are going to people, the world over. She needs to make peace with it, and along the way needs to spend some time asking herself why she hasn't condemned Indian people for their 'generic' terms for Western foods.
You keep saying that but can you give me some examples of their generic terms for western foods? I am not really familiar with the language.
It's not even remotely relevant. ALL cultures tend to have pet names for foreign foods they have some familiarity with. It's universal.
It is kind of relevant when you bring it up multiple times. It is easy to just say well they do the same thing too so it is ok. She gave you a specific example of the issue. Pet names for food is not the issue. She says there are dishes that have curry in the name that she has no problems with because they refer to specific dish. Like Thai green curry. Her issue is the broad classification of multiple dishes under an umbrella name that the culture normally thinks of as being separate.
