I like all foods, don't eat Bread now for over 10 yrs, but will eat just about anything. You can take me to any country and I'll do fine. Raised mostly on Italian and Polish foods.
That would never work for me. Some of my favorite proteins are fish. Salmon, trout, cod, halibut, crab, lobster all so delicious.
Some studies have showed that a semi vegetarian diet can be just as good for you as a straight vegetarian. A vegan diet is not any healthier. I can be a primary vegetarian for a time but I do not want to get caught up in being obsessed. A local grocery store serves hot meals during the day and their green beans and greens are quite good so we often will buy a quart. Well there are obviously ham hocks cooked with those vegetables southern style. That's not going to make me turn it down.
I do not understand the 2nd choice. If you eat fish you are not a vegetarian you are a pescatarian. How many people lie about this? I'm a woke vegetarian! Off to McDonalds!
I'm rallying against the definitions of words. All humans are omnivores. Nothing you do can change that fact. Your chosen diet is a different story.
Other. Flexitarian - plant-based diet, heavy on legumes and fruit. I minimize meat consumption because it's bad for health (minus omega-3 rich fish) and the environment, but it's not a strict no. Not going to starve myself at a BBQ if they have no vegetarian options, for example. But will know I am ingesting carcinogens. But a few carcinogens here and there probably won't make the difference.
My mom, dad and all their families lived long lives as meat eaters. I eat less and less as I'.ve aged due to digestive and colon issues. Too much meat is not good as I now know from a long life of constipation issues. I've changed a lot but like my small amounts of meats.
Well it's sort of like smoking (albeit less potent). Not everybody loses when they play Russian roulette with carcinogens, but that doesn't mean it's a good idea to play.
I am a normal eater. All this vegetarian stuff is subnormal - and the vegan stuff is even more sub-normal.
I used to like a good steak, but nowadays the US beef is so bad quality that I rarely buy it anymore. I have thrown away meats from Publix because it was inedible. I buy Vacio (flap / flank steak) imported from Argentina every now and then and still eat burgers, but other than that its a lot less red meat than before, and more chicken. I eat fish too when I catch it (Mahi-Mahi is best).
Normal doesn't mean better. Our diet evolved in the context of avoiding starvation. If you starve before reproducing, your genes don't get passed on. It was a threat then, not so much now unless you live in a 3rd world country. On the other hand, if you die of cancer at age 60 after your kids are adults themselves, evolution doesn't care anymore. The modern context is also very different. Now the greatest risks are cancer and heart disease. Animal proteins, particularly cooked, are a spectacular source of calories. This is a very positive thing when starvation is a threat, and you can store fat for later... but when heart disease is a bigger deal, it's not ideal at all. As for cancer, meat contains compounds that are good for short-term survival, but bad for longevity. Take red meat, a rich source of heme iron. Heme iron is a great way to restore iron lost through blood loss, but it is also carcinogenic and contributes to colon cancer in particular.
Actually Walmart (which I avoid the best I can) sells a good Angus steak burger. Costco has best prices for chicken. A six-pack of boneless / skinless thighs for $20.00.
I don't know about the quality of Costco chicken, but years ago I would buy their roasted chicken and so tasty but probably lot of sodium. I don't shop Costco but friends have brought me some things over the years.
They have regular chicken, which is what I buy, and then they have the "USDA Organic" brand which is more expensive. Costco has their own Chicken farms & processing plant in Nebraska, but I'm pretty sure the regular chicken is raised in windowless factories and who knows what they are fed, but the taste is just fine.
Have you been to Delaware Chicken in Hollywood? I’ve just been told of them. Apparently they have high quality along with several game meats.
