Bet she’s missing racist America now, eh? Karma sure has a funny way of working. https://www.reuters.com/world/baske...er-awaits-fate-russia-drugs-trial-2022-08-03/
I'm just waiting for Right Wing traitors to pop up over the internet and chortle the Putin victory. That's the real story here.
Hmm.. Since you brought it up, what "victory" has Putin gamed here? Since, as you say, it's the "real" story... whatever the .. that means. Does that make you one of those right wing traitors you refer to?
The entire Biden presidency has been Karma. I just love how people hate the US so much and then wind up having to spend years in Russia. That is Karma. Why doesn't she tell them how much she hates them?
Now that the trial is done, they will likely make some exchange. They can claim that justice was done with the conviction.
Personally I wouldn’t cheer any American getting such a ridiculous sentence. Even if they did spent all their time complaining about how america murders babies and is too woke. Americans can dislike things about their country and still be americans. Not liking things about your home is kinda how america got created….
you has a sad? Look, I think the woman is an insufferable moron, but it is idiotic for any country to impose a sentence like that for what she did. screw em both
well democrats want life sentences for the 1/6 protestors/"insurrectionists while ignoring the BLM terrorists
I read that some of those arrested weren't allowed bail. I thought bail denial was usually reserved for murders and/or flight risks.
You have to understand. Burning down govt buildings, police stations, cars and businesses, AND murdering a bunch of people isn’t actually terrorism….if you’re the correct color and support the correct organization
I don't particularly feel a need to "cheer" about it, but I also don't really want to see us spend much in terms of capitol, resources, influence, or even fake internet points to free her. By all appearances, she broke Russian law, and deserves to suffer whatever consequences Russia deems fit to impose. Using her American citizenship as some sort of get-out-of-jail-free card just reinforces stereotypes around the world of the ugly American imperialists, stomping all over the locals whenever it pleases us. Those are not stereotypes we should be reinforcing. Her freedom is certainly not worth freeing a renowned arms dealer over. ETA: BTW, what makes you call the sentence "ridiculous"? Is that just based on what you think is "fair" or are you claiming it's out of line for other drug smuggling convictions in Russia?
I guess assaulting LEO in DC is worst than assaulting one in NY. https://www.wusa9.com/article/news/...gress/65-1e4d4dd6-eded-4187-85f1-d4dfcc3a9519 https://www.foxnews.com/us/nyc-teen-released-caught-video-assault-cops-open-robbery-case It's all about location (and your politics) I suppose.
That sentence is very sad for her. Certainly, people can be bitter about her past complaints of America, but if that was your family member you would be screaming to anyone and everyone who would listen. I am not for prisoner exchanges in any way. Russia is nothing but another terrorist country and negotiating with terrorists is something we shouldn't do. I am not sure what the solution is here, but leaving her to stay in a Russian prison for 9-years is not a solution either. My family has risked their lives for the freedoms that we all enjoy in this country, and that covers all of us who are citizens of this nation; regardless if we agree with one another or not.
I was just thinking about him. Virtually nobody gave two shits when he got sentenced to 14 years a couple of months ago, because he's a nobody. Somebody famous gets a lighter sentence, and there's this push among the media and political activists to pay ridiculous prices to buy her freedom. WTF?
It might serve as an example to other travelers to check the laws of foreign countries before traveling. Some take petty crimes very seriously. If she had a script for the contraband I think that should have been treated as any other medicine, but there are different rules for different countries. Even here in the United States certain drugs are illegal to import.
