Unfreakingbelievable. I work from home with hundreds of other people nationwide & we rely heavily on chat to communicate, obviously. Each team has its own “room” and the back & forth can be lighthearted & occasionally fun. This one chick is fond of posting 80s song lyrics. I weighed in today with one of my favorite Gershwin lyrics from It Ain’t Necessarily So, from Porgy & Bess: Methus’la lived nine hundred years Methus’la lived nine hundred years But who calls dat livin’ When no gal will give in To no man what’s nine hundred years Just had a meeting with a supervisor (whom we’ll call Dipshit), who advises an unnamed colleague is offended by the sexual innuendo & disrespect for women. I pointed out the woman in the song doesn’t give in. Sounds like she’s standing up for herself, and the disrespected party appears to be the elderly man who can’t win her favors. Dipshit replied that perception is the issue & I need to respect that. I told him I REFUSE. Asked him if he’d ever heard the song, or had ever heard of Porgy & Bess. He hadn’t so I gave him a tutorial. Porgy & Bess is an opera written by George & Ira Gershwin in the 1930s, about black Americans living in the post-reconstruction South. When it debuted, all the singers and actors were black, which was hugely controversial at the time. I advised Dipshit that if I’m disciplined in any way, I'll take it as far up the food chain as I can, where I will argue that the offended party, and by extension the company, are denigrating the early 20th century black American experience. And that the offended party, and by extension the company, are racist. I told Dipshit: “You wanna play this game, let’s play. The ball’s in your court.” To the woke among us: call your mommies and have a good cry like the pathetic little snowflakes you are.
1300s: The black plague has consigned me to an agonizing death. 1800s: I'm 9 and I work in a factory from sunup to sundown. 1900s: I'm off to war and probably won't come back. 2000s: I'm offended.
On Wednesday, 5/5/2021, I was on a conference call with some big shots. My director made a harmless comment about it being Cinco de Mayo and I said when I lived in CA this was the only day without traffic. Two days later, on Friday, 5/7/2021, the director was laid off and I was forced into retirement.
It's not woke, it's called a third-party sexual harassment claim. That claim can be anonymous and that is part of the law that was used with Monica Lewinsky and her accusers. The person does not have to be another employee in the company, it can be a customer or even a total stranger. This law has been around since the early 1990s. Anyway, employers are concerned by civil liability and depending on the size of the company, or a governmental agency, it can be quite disconcerting, to say the least.
Only because the woke, weak, timid and witless are willing to bend over when a coward plays the victim card. In any event, It Ain't Necessarily So has been recorded by everyone from Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Aretha Franklin, etc. It's pure Americana. What part of that lyric do you construe as sexually harassing?
The point I was making is that third-party sexual harassment has been going on since the 1990s when woke was even a forethought in those days. Woke is just a conservative buzzword to entice emotions from certain people. What you did was your defense. The supervisor was required to ask, take down your information and pass it to Human Resources or legal counsel or both, depending on the company's policies. Let the process take its course and if need be, hire an attorney if adverse action is being taken by the employer on you.
Well besides this thread doesn't belong in this section, seems you are complaining about being required to act in a specific manner dictated by company policy.
Yeah it's gotten ridiculous. Everything is ****ing offensive now. Just shut your mouth do your job and save humor for your small circle. Basically be a robot. What a deliciously mechanical and stale environment progressives have created.
Where does it belong? It happened today, ergo a current event. I'm not being snarky. Where should it have been posted? I'm new here. In the meantime, what part of that lyric do you construe as sexually harassing?
~ What would happen if Low Rawls "Black and Blue" was playing over the Wal-Mart soundtrack.. ? ' ' ~ Where does it belong ?
Well since the rules state it’s needs to be a sources article. Not here 11. THREAD CREATION The opening post of a thread sets the topic and the tone of the discussion. It should contain a member's opinions or questions with sufficient elaboration to establish a foundation for respectful discussion and debate. Threads should not be posted in the wrong forum, or be duplicates of other threads and/or topics (creating multiple threads with fundamentally the same topic is not allowed). Images, links, quotations, etc., should be used to support a member's opinion, not to replace it. Quoting from an article is optional. If a quote is added, it must be clearly distinguishable from the personal commentary. Quotes may only contain a small portion of the article. We do not allow the entire article to be posted. Personal commentary must be a paragraph with at least 3 sentences of respectful elaboration. Thread titles should be a description of the thread topic (and if not they may be altered by the moderators). Whether a thread has sufficiently set a basis for respectful debate on the thread topic will be at the discretion of the moderators. All other board rules apply to thread titles and creation. Threads may be deleted, merged or closed for not meeting any of the requirements listed. There are additional rules for "Latest U.S and World News" and "Current Events": All thread titles must be copy/pasted from source article titles. Article titles that are too long to fit, should be abbreviated, keeping as close to the original title as possible. No personal opinions are allowed within thread titles. Threads must have a sourced article or news video, and the full article/video must be accessible upon clicking. (Content behind a paywall does not qualify as a source.)
By 'company policy' or by the complaint? Seems to me OP's phone call from their superiors was due to the complaint rather than any policy. And in which, I agree that 'having considerations for others feelings' has reached the point of absurdity. Arguably, long past the point of absurdity. As his post about 1300's-2000's shows, Liberals are generally adverse to conflicting situations, and when in doubt either to 'cancel/shun' or run away, whichever one comes to mind first. The modern day Liberalism itself is a new experiment in the Western Civilization, as thought has never been more free, yet more censored. Time will tell how it all works out.
More nonsense. This has nothing to do with politics, just more braying and bleating. An adult and a gentleman has no problem honoring someone's concerns especially when it had no impact on them. I presume you have never experienced someone in the office asking another to tone it down.
I am just asking. Do workplaces allow women to say things like "i hate men" or "men are trash"? Can such speech be viewed as hostile work environment?
Progressives accept all kinds of Hate Speech directed at men. Thus Progressives stand for Inequality.
I'm glad the gas station and mechanics garage I work for is independently owned and not part of some corporate chain. My boss even lets me ride my dirt bike on his 75 acres when I want to. If someone has a valid complaint that is one thing but if someone comes here complaining about some workism, SJW BS we'll just laugh at them and tell them to leave the property if they make a scene about it.
