I have believed for many years now that if somebody's religious beliefs is PRO-LIFE then they should also tend to support a Basic Minimum Income for all citizens as was advocated by Economist Milton Friedman.

An UNCONDITIONAL BASIC MINIMUM INCOME would give added life to organizations that are attempting to help the homeless.... drug addicts....... alcoholics...... the sex industry... gambling.... and would become a source of revenue that courts could divert over from fathers to a mom who has custody of the children and is actually caring for the children!

I am Pro - Life and I definitely think that an unconditional Basic Minimum Income to all citizens will positively alter the economy of The United States and Canada and soon other nations will follow suit because our history shows how this idea goes back many decades.

I like how the gifted Rick Joyner was shown that Messiah Yeshua - Jesus is concerned about money being used in a far more just and ethical manner.

If this topic interests you greatly we have already been discussing this rather generally over in the "Abortion" forum since June of 2019.

Would a Basic Minimum Income dramatically reduce abortions?

I believe that in a way this topic goes all the way back to 1750 and the core reasons for the American Revolutionary War!

Do we Canadians owe America an apology for 1750 - 1783?

I am Canadian and I am certain that if we Canadians had known what was actually going on as to why so many Americans were angry at the British Monarchy and aristocracy I believe that we would have supported the right for Americans to form their own nation......... but because the government of England had domination of the media the vast majority of our ancestors knew almost nothing about what was actually happening. Frankly.......... I believe that BigMedia is still being used to convince the average American and Canadian that there is no alternative other than some terribly unwise policies in terms of economics.

IF MONEY IN THE ECONOMY ACTS LIKE BLOOD IN A HUMAN BODY.... AND IF OUR POLITICAL LEADERS ARE SUPPOSED TO OBEY SOME VARIATION OF A HIPPOCRATIC OATH FOR ECONOMISTS...... THEN OUR POLITICAL LEADERS NEED TO SUPPORT AN UNCONDITIONAL BASIC MINIMUM INCOME.... THAT IS NOT FINANCED BY EITHER TAXATION OR BY PRIVATE BANKS!!!!!!!!

AN UNCONDITIONAL BASIC MINIMUM INCOME SHOULD BE CREATED MUCH AS PRESIDENT LINCOLN FINANCED THE CIVIL WAR!!!!!!!!

HIS METHOD SAVED AMERICAN TAXPAYERS FOUR BILLION DOLLARS IN INTEREST PAYMENTS!!!!!

Well, at least you are presenting a solution to address the societal effects of banning abortion, which here in the US, pro-lifers don't even bother. It is probably because they cannot think that many steps ahead. So Kudos, Dennis.

I would definitely like to see pro-lifers present something to offset the ramifications of an abortion-less America, but all I see them doing is arguing in circles to justify the righteousness of their cause, but not a word about the consequences.

    BRILLIANTLY STATED Lucifer!!!!!!!!!!

I had been a Christian from around 1972 or 1973 until 1990 and then I came to the conclusion that none of the most impressive Christian leaders that I personally knew of, (for example Evangelist Garner Ted Armstrong and his buddy Evangelist Ron Dart), were ready to meet the following person....
    ..
    Ezekiel 28:3
"Behold, thou art wiser than Daniel; there is no secret that they can hide from thee:"

So..... I prayed and I asked for wisdom and understanding so that I could meet that guy.....
who I was expecting to come on the scene shortly........

....and then some pretty strange things happened...... but anyway...... I honestly believe that the national debts of the United States and / or Canada and / or Israel and / or Australia are significantly PRACTICAL JOKES being played on three hundred and thirty million Americans who do NOT know their right hand from their left when it comes to economics........ and on thirty seven point six million Canadians who do not know much of anything about economics either, (but we Canadians do have one advantage..... our horrible climate does tend to force us to read more....... because we don't want to go outside and play....... and female Canadians are wearing more clothes for ten months of the year..... so we Canadian guys tend to be somewhat less distracted )....... but anyway I digress.......and I was not exactly joking around when I began the following discussion.......
I did earn my Associate Degree of Theology from near death experiencer Dr. Kevin Zadai over these past three years and I would like to submit my Thesis on HOW TO PAY OFF THE NATIONAL DEBT OF THE UNITED STATES AND OR CANADA AND, OR ISRAEL AND , OR AUSTRALIA........ and I would like to submit a one year time frame for the foundation to be laid for all of this....... (under our present set of circumstances the alternative is kind of scary........ The Biden Digital Currency)!

Can the national debt of the USA be paid off in one year?

    I blame the people.
The people that are too ignorant to comprehend abortion is a religious matter, 'not' a matter of commerce, 'not' a matter of state.
I blame the state for its incessant determination to grab power.
The scrotumus maximus 'should' have rejected the case as 'religious' or simply ruled that people have the right to obtain licenced medical services.
There will always be a doctor somewhere who will perform the procedure.
The real abortion in this country is the guv, and our untrustworthy trustees that we trust to run it.

Just a point on this part, I think that fathers should be given a minimum of a basic food staple so that they don't starve while paying child support.

I supported Andrew Yang when he proposed a $2000 a month income, but since he lost his primary, I realized that the majority of people don't really want a UBI given out to everyone.

Then, when Biden gave out 3 stimulus checks to Americans and caused the great inflation panic of 2022, it turned out that giving out money wasn't the answer. It just causes more problems than it's worth. And the argument that a UBI would cause inflation is no longer in doubt in my mind.

The stimulus checks did not cause the inflation. That's just more political rhetoric.

If we are serious, which is still questionable, about reducing homelessness, UBI seems like the only effective way we will be able to do it.

It might be political rhetoric, but the current situation doesn't fill me with confidence.

I've also come to believe that our current system is sus and completely NOT serious about solving homelessness or inequality, but is instead perpetuating it.

The problem with the UBI is the rental economy- rent will always increase to precisely what renters can afford. Maximizing profits is the only incentive that exists to buy residential property so other people can live in it... The instant a UBI is instituted, its a market guarantee that rent rates (or housing costs in general, really) will immediately increase by however much the UBI is, and no one will have any extra money (except for the landlords). UBI would be great if we all had fixed mortgages... but most of us don't, and most people with fixed mortgages don't need a UBI.

    True.

But, it's going to be hard for them to justify the ramifications of government making healthcare choices that clearly impact the short and long term health of women - up to and including death.

There is such a focus on fetuses that the evangelicals (the only major group opposed to women making their own health care choices) clearly ignore the fact that there are real live women involved - women who have rights to determine their own healthcare choices.

Absolutely! At the heart of this abortion issue is a religious belief, which can be debated, but regardless, it is an extremely myopic view of society. They operate under the idea that if abortion is banned, abortions will cease. It is beyond naive thinking when real people's lives are in danger. I can only assume they honestly believe people will behave more "Christian-like" if they force this down people's throats, not realizing the evil they are supporting by not understanding the myriad of reasons why women would need or want an abortion. And they want this without discussing the ramifications of unwanted births that their utopian solution presents.

Economist Milton Friedman felt that The Welfare State was the problem because it REWARDED PEOPLE FOR NOT PRODUCING......
an Unconditional but taxable Basic Minimum Income Supplemt can be used to replace the Welfare State..... and reward everybody.......
and Unconditional Basic Minimum Income Supplement would go to rich and poor alike... .but of course would mean far, far, far, far, far more to the poor........

This would tend to break us out of the situation where we are running like Gherbils on a treadmill for all of our lives.

    Melvin Sickler....
The USA fiat dollar is backed up by the PRODUCTIVITY OF AMERICANS... SO REWARDING PEOPLE FOR NOT PRODUCING..... .FOR NOT WORKING... IS a step toward ECONOMIC SUICIDE!

In the event of an Unconditional Basic Minimum Income being given to all Americans and Canadians I can guess that a huge number will build a second home in a more rural area and many will leave the cities altogether.

But.... the reason why INFLATION occurred is because everything that Biden and Trudeau did over these past three years tended to DECREASE PRODUCTIVITY!!!!

Biden and Trudeau's advisors who are passing them a script to read for them...... knew perfectly well that they had to withhold certain products during 2020 in order to INCREASE FEAR.....
then they had to enact one policy after another that DECREASED PRODUCTIVY!!!!!

Americans and Canadians having more money was NOT the problem.... the DECREASE IN PRODUCTIVitY was the real problem......
but Biden and Trudeau's advisor knew all about that because they understood what happened during the time of the Weimar Republic.

Best explanation for Weimar Republic Inflation I ever read....

Do Biden's advisors and Trudeau's advisors seem to want to crash the markets?

BigOil and BigBanking OWN BIGMEDIA....and they are the ones who do not want Americans and Canadians to have an Unconditional Basic Minimum Income that is taxable..... because they know that the national debt would soon be understood to have been something of a practical joke on people who somewhat TRUST NEWS ANCHORS..... who actually like Biden and Trudeau.... are largely actors reading a script for people with the power to fire them if they do not read that script!!!!! It takes a little bit longer to fire Biden and Trudeau than it would to fire any famous news anchor who refuses to read the script that is passed to them!

Basic Minimum Income is a free ride for folks that want to sit on their couch and watch TV. Unmotivated, irresponsible folks should have the right to be homeless and go hungry. We should always care for the truly needy that are mentally challenged, emotionally challenged, or physically challenged. But we should not subsidize irresponsibility and laziness.

I'm not sure what that subject has to do with abortion, nor do I understand what abortion has to do with religion. I am not a very religious guy and yet I don't want unborn children to be killed in the womb. There's plenty of people supporting both sides of the abortion and I'm glad to see that the recent Supreme Court decision will allow the VOTERS in each state to decide the issue.

But not if it is sufficiently low....
which is why I chose the number of merely five hundred dollars Canadian / Northern Pesos......
....... For a family of four this would be an extra two thousand dollars coming in which would pay a pretty good mortgage......
but nobody could actually live off that paltry an amount of money!

Being irresponsible and unmotivated is SUPPOSED to be unpleasant. It gets folks moving... back to school getting the skills and/or education to get a job that allows you to EARN YOUR OWN WAY. I have enough trouble providing for my own family. Why should should I be burdened with supporting the families of irresponsible people. Again, if people that are mentally, emotionally or physically challenged have an actual need, we should help them. But EVERYBODY? NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

You obviously did not understand what Economist Milton Friedman was advocating......

He wanted to replace the Welfare State of America and Canada with an Unconditional but Taxable Basic Minimum Income......

It would go to all citizens and all legal residents......

but in my opinion it needs to be created in the same manner as the President Abraham Lincoln Greenback Monetary Policy Experiment of 1861 to 1865........

If we look at what was done from 1866 to 1887 we will get a better idea as to what Biden and Trudeau's handlers have been attempting to accomplish over these past three years!

This could relate to something of an Eleventh Commandment..... "Employ Thy Neighbour!"

So Lincoln just wanted to grow money on trees? (That means just print all you want.) Biden does that and led us to 8.6% inflation. Just printing money makes it less valuable. Econ 101

Not exactly.... Lincoln wanted to save American taxpayers FOUR BILLION DOLLARS OR SO in interest payments!

President Lincoln would probably not know that that would be the number of dollars in interest payments that he would save American taxpayers......
because it was 1972 before the specific calculations were made that gave us that number!

Plus.. the original idea was not Lincoln's but one of his advisors who had a good insight on what happened between 1750 to 1788!

President Lincoln was NOT the only USA President fascinated by this general idea either.

Now.... am I an idiot to suspect that President Donald J. Trump had aspirations to go down in history as having been somewhat like President Lincoln and JFK?

Is The Donald feared because he might turn out to be another JFK?

I'd need a cite on that.

Most economists are saying that it has had to do with the disruption caused by COVID, both in the USA and abroad and by the rise in oil, mostly caused by the disruptions in Europe due to war, etc.

There are still serious supply chain issues that affect manufacturing as well as sales.

So, your idea sounds like standard political nonsense.

What does shutting down restaurants do if not decrease productivity?

Did you look at any video footage of New York City during 2021? The streets were nearly empty of both people..... .and cars!!!!!

That IS the cost of having a disease running rampant through our country.

Remember when Trump excused meat packing plants from all EPA recommendations for protecting workers?

The result was that the whole towns got COVID and the plant shut down anyway.

Also, I think you are ignoring the cost to our healthcare. Our hospitals in NYC were monumentally overrun by those with COVID, meaning that they could not treat other conditions, plus doctors, nurses and first responders were being taken out. NYC had doctors and nurses coming back from retirement to try to save people. Yet, THEY were in the "high risk" category, and many of these heroes died.

There were refrigerated trucks being used to stack and store bodies. There were people dying without having contact with family. There were people who didn't yet know they were sick who were flying to other destinations in the USA, thus spreading the disease. (Remember that COVID in America arrived from Europe, not Asia.)

It's easy to see the loss of business caused by shutdowns. But, limiting ones evaluation to THAT side of the equation is just plain stupid. NO evaluation of a policy can center on only one side of the equation - unless the only interest is crap to support partisan politics. I'm hoping that is not what you want.

One has to look at what would have been the condition WITHOUT those shutdowns.

Our policy makers had to look at the full issue.

A basic minimum income would destroy this country. Not only is it unfair, but immoral. To pay someone simply for existing is an ultimate insult to human nature, and disastrous to economic prosperity.

This way of thinking on the part of Conservatives in the USA and Canada is why the Liberal Party almost always wins election after election here in Canada.....
and why the Dems win election after election in the USA!!!!!

Yes.... using The Bank of Canada to finance lots and lots of road and infrastructure repairs would be a great idea at this time... but a B. M. I. would be even more marketable to voters!
