Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee Introduces Bill Criminalizing ‘Conspiracy to Commit White Supremacy,’ Criticism of Non-White People

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) introduced a House Bill criminalizing “conspiracy to commit white supremacy,” which includes criticism of non-white people which influences an individual to commit a hate crime.

The legislation, H.R.61 “Leading Against White Supremacy Act of 2023,” introduced last Monday by Democratic congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee of Texas, seeks to “prevent and prosecute white supremacy inspired hate crime and conspiracy to commit white supremacy inspired hate crime.”

Yes the bill is real: https://www.congress.gov/bill/118th-congress/house-bill/61/text/ih?overview=closed&format=xml

Of course I'm curious, but does anyone on the left feel that this is a free speech or First Amendment issue?

I think she should set up a bill to reduce black violence prior to addressing fictional problems.

So this genius wants to pass a law that only one group of people can violate, brilliant.

Obama is gone so now all the race baiting can stop.

Well it's obviously not going to pass during this Congress. But more than likely the Dems will be back in charge of the House after the 2024 election and this might show up again.

Why won't it pass? You don't think there are a dozen Republicans that will chip in for this just because they don't want to be called racist?

A few sure, but it has to get out of a Republican dominated Judiciary committee first and I think during this Congress that's unlikely. She may have to wait until 2025.

That implies that people other than white can be racist and, if you've been following the prevailing narrative, non-whites simply can not be racist because they hold no political power.

Sounds like she wants to expand hate crime laws to include white supremacy inspired ones. I thought they were already included, but maybe I was mistaken. I don't know what it has to do with freedom of speech, but leave it to Breitbart.....

I dont think it will pass because committing hate crimes is already covered under existing laws.

"To prevent and prosecute white supremacy inspired hate crime and conspiracy to commit white supremacy inspired hate crime and to amend title 18, United States Code, to expand the scope of hate crimes.

    a) In General.—A person engages in a white supremacy inspired hate crime when white supremacy ideology has motivated the planning, development, preparation, or perpetration of actions that constituted a crime or were undertaken in furtherance of activity that, if effectuated, would have constituted a crime."

"motivated'. So someone thinks something someone said may have been based in 'white supremacy', so now thought can be considered a hate crime?

That turbotard reps the worst areas in Houston. I will finish this week off by conspiring to commit white supremacy in every part of this town. In her fat honor.

No, thinking is not a crime. An actual crime needs to be committed.

The text: "To prevent and prosecute white supremacy inspired hate crime and conspiracy to commit white supremacy inspired hate crime"

How do you know that? The Senate is majority Democrat now and may be majority Democrat after the 2024 election. So why wouldn't a Democrat vote for this? Sounds right up their, and your, alley.

I'm impressed. You've actually found a Democratic objective you're willing to dismiss, rather than defend.

Well it's like this, a thought crime could get you sent to Room 101, and you don't want that.

No its not, its incitement to violence from a person in power. There is a reason for the skyrocketing race based murders of whites, cops and Asians. It is this type of incitement that results in the death of innocents.

Cd8ted, the rhetoric of YOUR leaders is directly leading to death. Not small little blips, ENORMOUS SURGES.
