Finally, the circle is closing on Trump.

The Times reports, "Former President Donald J. Trump’s daughter Ivanka and his son-in-law Jared Kushner have been subpoenaed by the special counsel to testify before a federal grand jury about Mr. Trump’s efforts to stay in power after he lost the 2020 election and his role in a pro-Trump mob’s attack on the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, according to two people briefed on the matter.

"The decision by the special counsel, Jack Smith, to subpoena Ms. Trump and Mr. Kushner underscores how deeply into Mr. Trump’s inner circle Mr. Smith is reaching, and is the latest sign that no potential high-level witness is off limits.

"The disclosure about the subpoena comes two weeks after it was revealed that Mr. Smith had subpoenaed former Vice President Mike Pence to testify before the grand jury. Mr. Pence plans to fight the subpoena, invoking his role as the president of the Senate to argue that it violates the “speech or debate” clause of the Constitution.

"It is unclear whether Mr. Trump will seek to block Ms. Trump and Mr. Kushner from testifying on the grounds of executive privilege, as he has tried with some other witnesses."

But Trump knows by now that executive privilege cannot be used when the investigation concerns a crime such as inciting a far-right wing mob to attack our capitol, disrupt the business of Congress, and threaten the lives of our lawmakers and the vice-president.

“We’re going to walk down to the Capitol, and we’re going to cheer on our brave senators and congressmen and women. You have to show strength, and you have to be strong.”
“When you catch somebody in a fraud, you are allowed to go by very different rules."
“We fight like hell and if you don’t fight like hell, you’re not going to have a country anymore.”
"Now it is up to Congress to confront this egregious assault on our democracy. And after this, we’re going to walk down, and I’ll be there with you. We are going to try and give them the kind of pride and boldness that they need to take back our country.”
    *****************************************************************************************************************Donald J. Trump, Jan. 6, 2021

"Mr. Trump declined to try to stop White House officials from testifying before the House special committee that investigated the Jan. 6 attack and what led to it," the Times.

CNN reports, "Nine justices set out Tuesday to determine what the future of the internet would look like if the Supreme Court were to narrow the scope of a law that some believe created the age of modern social media.

"After nearly three hours of arguments, it was clear that the justices had no earthly idea.

"That hesitancy, coupled with the fact that the justices were wading for the first time into new territory, suggests the court, in the case at hand, is not likely to issue a sweeping decision with unknown ramifications in one of the most closely watched disputes of the term.

"Tech companies big and small have been following the case, fearful that the justices could reshape how the sites recommend and moderate content going forward and render websites vulnerable to dozens of lawsuits, threatening their very existence.

"The case before the justices was initially brought by the family of Nohemi Gonzalez, a US student who was killed in a Paris bistro in 2015 after ISIS terrorists opened fire. Now, her family seeks to hold YouTube, a subsidiary of Google, liable for her death."

Personally, I am hoping either Trump or DeSantis is the Republican nominee for the Presidency in 2024. This will ensure that a Republican will not become our President. The last Republican was a disaster. He incited a riot against our capitol, threatened to overthrow our elected governbment, stole hundreds of pages of classified documents, and is about to be indicted for a multitude of crimes.

And grassroots Republicans are so unresponsive they cannot even muster a reply to this message.

Why did he do it? The reason McCarthy gave is nothing short of incredulous. He said he promised to make the videos public. So he gives the videos to Fox News, and only Fox News.

What Fox is going to do with them is in serious question. The unrelenting violence in the videos is highly incriminating to Fox's hero, Donald John Trump.

CNN reports, "House Speaker Kevin McCarthy defended his controversial move to grant Fox News host Tucker Carlson access to security footage from the January 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol, telling the New York Times he “promised.”

“I was asked in the press about these tapes, and I said they do belong to the American public. I think sunshine lets everybody make their own judgment,” he told the Times.

"McCarthy – who has already been fundraising on the move – did indeed promise to release the footage as part of his bid to become speaker, and it was something Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz had specifically been demanding."

But McCarthy didn't know what to do with the footage.

"McCarthy could have tasked his own committees with sorting through the footage and presenting it, but he had long been wary of having the House GOP looking like it is investigating or relitigating the January 6 attack," CNN.

    For good reason.

CNN added, "McCarthy opted to give the footage to a friendly conservative media network. Specifically, he opted to give the exclusive to Carlson, who has been one of the most vocal voices in conservative media calling for the footage to be released."

There are serious doubts McCarthy will last long as Speaker.

America is still waiting for the indictments to come, especially when it comes to the former President who incited an attack on our government and stole hundreds of pages of classified documents.

CNN reports, "The top investigator on the House committee that probed the January 6, 2021, US Capitol attack said Wednesday it is “likely” that the Georgia and federal investigations into efforts to subvert the 2020 presidential election will produce indictments.

"Timothy Heaphy told CNN "I think there will likely be indictments both in Georgia and at the federal level.”

"In Georgia, the foreperson of the Atlanta-based grand jury that investigated former President Donald Trump’s attempts to overturn the 2020 election told CNN on Tuesday that the panel is recommending multiple indictments.

"Now that the grand jury is finished, it’s up to Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis to review the recommendations and make charging decisions. Willis’ decisions in this case will reverberate in the 2024 presidential campaign and beyond.

"At the federal level, special counsel Jack Smith is overseeing parts of the criminal investigation into the Capitol attack and has subpoenaed members of Trump’s inner circle. On Wednesday, the New York Times reported that Smith had subpoenaed the former president’s daughter Ivanka Trump and son-in-law Jared Kushner for testimony.

"The special counsel has a massive amount of evidence already in-hand that it now needs to comb through, including evidence recently turned over by the House January 6 committee, subpoena documents provided by local officials in key states and discovery collected from lawyers for Trump allies late last year in a flurry of activity, at least some of which had not been reviewed as of early January."

America is asking, "What are you waiting for?"

Indeed. Voters should be giving their votes to people who don't buy them.

ABC reports, "The White House said that new sanctions hitting over 200 people and entities will “further degrade Russia’s economy and diminish its ability to wage war against Ukraine.” The Biden administration will also further restrict exports to Russia and raise tariffs on some Russian products imported to the U.S.

"Still, as the conflict enters a second year, there are no indications that President Vladimir Putin will retreat from the conflict. And the avalanche of international sanctions that have been steadily hoisted on Moscow over the past year has yet to deliver the sort of knockout blow to the Russian economy that the White House — and independent economists — predicted at the outset of the war.

"The Russian economy has weathered sanctions better than expected in 2022, in part due to “the slow introduction of commodities sanctions," according to a Moody’s Investors Service report on Friday.

"The Russian economy is expected to weaken in 2023, with GDP shrinking by 3% this year, according to the Moody's projection. The economy shrank 2.2% in 2022, far short of predictions of 15% or more that Biden administration officials had showcased at the start of the war. Export controls and financial sanctions are gradually eroding Russia’s industrial capacity, but oil and other energy exports last year enabled Putin to keep funding the war."

Hoorah! The war in Ukraine will soon be over. Red China has a peace plan.

ABC reports, "One year into Russia's war against Ukraine, China is offering a 12-point proposal to end the fighting.

"The proposal follows China's recent announcement that it is trying to act as mediator in the war that has re-energized Western alliances viewed by Beijing and Moscow as rivals. China's top diplomat indicated that the plan was coming at a security conference this week in Munich, Germany.

"With its release, President Xi Jinping's government is reiterating China's claim to being neutral, despite blocking efforts at the United Nations to condemn the invasion. The document echoes Russian claims that Western governments are to blame for the Feb. 24, 2022 invasion and criticizes sanctions on Russia.

"China’s proposal calls for a cease-fire and peace talks, and an end to sanctions against Russia.

"Without mentioning either Russia or Ukraine, it says the sovereignty of all countries should be upheld. It didn't specify what that would look like for Ukraine, and the land taken from it since Russia seized Crimea in 2014."

The plan does not mention the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine's provinces in the south and east.

It is nice to know China has not lost its sense of humor.

More classified documents showed up at Mar-a-Lago. To Trump, this has to be a nightmare. A nightmare that he caused.

CNN reports, "The Justice Department wants to know how a box containing a handful of classified records scattered among copies of presidential schedules turned up at Mar-a-Lago late last year, well after several rounds of searches of the property by federal agents and aides to former President Donald Trump, according to people familiar with the matter.

"Investigators working for special counsel Jack Smith in recent weeks have interviewed a Trump aide who copied classified materials found in the box using her phone to put them onto a laptop. After a voluntary interview with the aide, prosecutors subpoenaed the password to the laptop, which she provided, according to one of the sources.

"The classified documents contained in the box were discovered in December, after the Justice Department told Trump’s legal team to conduct yet another search for documents at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort.

"Trump’s legal team has acknowledged in recent weeks they turned over to the special counsel the box and a laptop containing its scanned contents. But prosecutors have continued asking why it wasn’t given to the Justice Department earlier, and what if any role or knowledge Trump may have had about its movements, sources said.

"People familiar with the Trump legal team’s efforts to locate documents describe a confusing chain of events that delayed discovery of the box, which finally ended up in the Mar-a-Lago bridal suite that is now Trump’s office – the very place that the FBI had searched just weeks earlier."

Do you understand that YouTube's algorithms boosted ISIS videos?

What is 'the Henderson' test and why does SCOTUS care?

'Section 230 is the statute that protects tech platforms’ ability to host material from users — like social media posts, uploaded video and audio files, and comments — without being held legally liable for their content. It also allows platforms to moderate their services and remove posts they consider objectionable.'

'The law is central to the question that will be decided by the Supreme Court in the Gonzalez case, which asks whether platforms like Google’s YouTube can be held responsible for algorithmically recommending user posts that endorse or promote terrorism.'

These Mega-Social Media companies that routinely suppress content that isn't in agreement with the DNC Narrative have steadfastly that they are just like the delivery truck that carriers newspapers, and therefore in no sense responsible for what is in the newspaper, but, when they boost and bury depending on their editorial view, does this delivery truck analogy continue to hold up?

    Here's another take:

'230 expressly provides immunity from liability to "interactive computer service" that include "access software provider," which § 230(f) defines to include:'

'a provider of software (including client or server software), or enabling tools that do any one or more of the following:
    (A) filter, screen, allow, or disallow content;
    (B) pick, choose, analyze, or digest content; or
    (C) transmit, receive, display, forward, cache, search, subset, organize, reorganize, or translate content.'

'This makes clear, I think, that § 230 generally protects not just software that hosts third party material, but also software tools that automatically select such material to recommend to users.'

    https://reason.com/volokh/2023/01/19/amicus-brief-as-to-§-230c1-in-gonzalez-v-google/

That looks pretty clear, and this is a court that interprets law, it does not make law, and congress' intent seems to be to protect this boosting and burying. So I think that Google will likely prevail here, but, aside from whether it is legal, how moral or immoral is boosting ISIS videos to ISIS members?

Rupert Murdoch admitted that Fox News lied to its loyal listeners.

A person with average intelligence knew all along that Fox was lying to its audience. The reverse is also true.

The Times reports, "Rupert Murdoch, chairman of the conservative media empire that owns Fox News, acknowledged in a deposition that several hosts for his networks promoted the false narrative that the election in 2020 was stolen from former President Donald J. Trump, court documents released on Monday showed.

“They endorsed,” Mr. Murdoch said under oath in response to direct questions about hosts Sean Hannity, Jeanine Pirro, Lou Dobbs and Maria Bartiromo, a legal filing by Dominion Voting Systems said. “I would have liked us to be stronger in denouncing it in hindsight.”

"The people running the country’s most popular news network knew Mr. Trump’s claims of voter fraud during the 2020 election were false but broadcast them anyway."

As is their custom, the forum's Republicans will say nothing.

Republican leadership has a serious problem with Donald Trump. The problem is, Trump enjoys an enormous amount of support from the educationally challenged base of the Republican Party. In the run for the Republican nomination for President in 2024, Trump leads by a safe margin.

CNN reports, "GOP leaders are sending warnings that they want former President Donald Trump to play by the rules and put his party above his own interests as he embarks on a third campaign – that is, to behave in a way he rarely, if ever, has before.

"Republican National Committee Chair Ronna McDaniel gave the clearest sign yet on CNN’s “State of the Union” Sunday that 2024 GOP White House candidates will have to pledge to back the party’s presidential nominee if it isn’t them – or risk being banned from the debate stage.

“I think it’s kind of a no-brainer, right?” McDaniel told Dana Bash, adding that formal criteria haven’t yet been established for the first debate in August. “If you’re going to be on the Republican National Committee debate stage asking voters to support you, you should say, ‘I’m going to support the voters and who they choose as the nominee,’” McDaniel added.

Unfortunately for the GOP, Trump has said that whether he would back someone other than himself as the 2024 Republican nominee would depend on who the candidate was. Given that he is attacking his potential primary rivals, especially high-flying Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, the potential for new party splits is growing.

Therein lies the problem for GOP leadership, complicated by the fact that, when it comes to general elections, Trump is a loser. He and his chosen followers lose the popular vote, Trump twice when he was the nominee.

To the delight of the educationally challenged Republican base who cannot fathom the deceit, Ron Desantis appears to be a right-wing autocrat as he consistently speaks about freedom while depriving Floridians of their freedoms. Indeed, his new book is entitled The Courage to Be Free. DeSantis is hoping that grassroots Republicans can't see the subterfuge, and, so far, it is working.

While constantly speaking disingenuously about the will to be free, he avoids talking about what he is doing. What he is doing in Florida is expanding government control over education, schools, libraries, women's health, books, Disney, and other corporations.

"Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and state legislative leaders announced a sweeping new bill to curb the politicization of corporations. If passed into law, the legislation would have the most far-reaching restrictions against corporations established to date," Fox News.

AP reports, "Ron DeSantis signed a bill that gives him control of Walt Disney World's self-governing district, punishing the company over its opposition to the so-called “Don’t Say Gay” law."

CNN reports, "Dozens of parents, students, and alumni spoke out against Florida’s conservative takeover of New College of Florida in Sarasota. DeSantis replaced six of the 13 members on the college’s board of trustees with conservative allies, including Christopher Rufo, who has fueled the fight against critical race theory. The new board forced out the college’s president and appointed DeSantis ally Richard Corcoran as interim president.

There are many more examples of autocracy inspired by DeSantis.

    Is this what Floridians want?

Is this what the American people want?

House Republicans are playing politics with former Republican President Trump's inspired attack on our capitol.

CNN reports, "Speaker Kevin McCarthy faced questions from his leadership team Monday night over his plans to publicly release security footage from January 6, 2021, multiple sources told CNN – a process that he said could take some time to disseminate widely even as Fox News host Tucker Carlson has had an early glimpse."

Really? McCarthy has not said publicly that he will give the tapes to other networks. He is lying to the leadership.

CNN continued, "While GOP leaders are supportive of the move to release the footage – which was one of the many concessions McCarthy made in his bid to become speaker – some lawmakers in the closed-door leadership meeting asked whether sensitive security protocols or certain evacuation routes would be exposed by taking that step.

"Others questioned how long the footage is going to be dragged out in the press, with some lawmakers concerned about the optics of appearing to try to downplay a deadly insurrection in the US Capitol.

“Let’s just rip the Band-aid off and get this over with,” one GOP lawmaker told CNN," admitting Republicans have a real problem with Trump's role in the attack.

Sources said McCarthy assured his leadership team that he wants to move swiftly, but said they need to be deliberate about how they handle it to ensure the release does not endanger their security. He also told lawmakers that other media outlets will get access to the footage after Carlson airs his exclusive, but it could take a few weeks.

What a bunch of B.S. double talk. McCarthy is an idiot.

Sucks to have the two worst presidents in American history back to back like this then possibly only having them both running against each other just so we get stuck with one of them again. Can't get any worse than this. Maybe both will get indicted and can't run in the next election!

We may find out more regarding Biden's criminal past as well as Trumps. I think we are just beginning stages of researching all the corruption these two have committed. Here is the latest for Joe.

Loyal Democrats will fight for their champ, Biden, til the end just like the Maga crowd for Trump. Biden lovers will say this is not proof, but they will fail to realize that every single transaction between Jim Biden, Hunter Biden and every foreign entity will now be scrutinized in detail. Lets just hope both get charged and we can move on from having jerks for presidents. This is just the beginning.

Fox News continues to be exposed as a dishonest organization — this time, with the help of its billionaire owner.

Here are some highlights. Of course, the forum's Republicans will continue their silence. The rarely discuss what their party is doing.

    CNN reports:
► In the wake of the election, Murdoch wrote in an email to the New York Post’s Col Allan, describing election lies that Trump was pushing as “bulls**t and damaging.”

► Murdoch said it was “wrong” for Tucker Carlson to host conspiracy theorist Mike Lindell after the election. When asked why he continued to allow the MyPillow CEO to continue appearing on Fox News, Murdoch signaled it was a business decision.

► Behind the scenes, Paul Ryan repeatedly warned the Murdochs to stop allowing the spread of election lies. The former House speaker said that Fox News should “move on from Donald Trump” and “stop spouting election lies.”

► Murdoch responded to one email from Ryan by telling him that Sean Hannity had “been privately disgusted by Trump for weeks, but was scared to lose viewers.”

► Murdoch gave Jared Kushner “confidential information” about then-candidate Joe Biden’s ads “along with debate strategy” in 2020. At most news organizations, this type of action would result in an investigation and disciplinary measures.

► Murdoch asked Fox News CEO Suzanne Scott to have Hannity say “something supportive” about Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham ahead of the 2020 election. In other words, Murdoch was directing the head of his talk network to help the GOP. Again, this type of directive from an executive would be a major scandal at an actual news network.

► Despite Fox accurately calling the race in Arizona for Biden, Murdoch suggested firing Bill Sammon, then the head of the network’s Washington bureau.

I think CNN and MSNBC has done the exact same thing that Fox is doing. Mass Media madness. Heck, I wouldn't doubt these outlets have been in cahoots with their favorite candidates for years. This is the tip fo the iceburg and I hope Fox, CNN and MSNBC have expensive penalties. I think CNN would have to file bankruptcy though.

That is so typical of a Republican. They do it over and over again.

They make an accusation, but they don't provide a basis for the accusation. Republicans think making an accusation makes it true. In most cases -- like this one -- they don't provide a basis because there isn't one.

In some cases, the Russians, including Putin, act like small children. They lie. They create fantasies. Some act like they don't know there is a war on, and they caused it, a fact Russians often forget.

Such is the case with their latest accusation. Russian drones, bombs, missiles, and artillery have been pulverizing Ukrainian cities for a year.

"Russia’s Defense Ministry on Tuesday accused Ukraine of launching a spate of attempted drone strikes targeting infrastructure deep inside Russia, including near the capital, after a fire broke out at an oil depot," CNN.

That's like accusing Ukraine of defending a city in their country from Russian attacks.

Moscow region Gov. Andrey Vorobyov claimed a Ukrainian drone had crashed near the village of Gubastovo southeast of the capital. The drone was apparently aimed at what he called “civilian infrastructure,”

My, how terrible that is. Somebody tell the mayor there is a war on, and Russia's leader caused it.

Much to the displeasure of Republicans, the Biden economy is red hot.

Applications for unemployment benefits are considered a proxy for the number layoffs in the U.S.

ABC reports, "The number of people applying for unemployment benefits in the U.S. fell for third straight week. That's good news for American workers, but potentially bad news in the fight against inflation by the Federal Reserve, which has been ratcheting up its benchmark interest rate for a year in an effort to cool the economy, loosen the labor market and tame inflation.

"Applications for jobless claims in the U.S. for the week ending February 25 fell to 190,000 from 192,000 the previous week, the Labor Department said Thursday. It’s the seventh straight week claims were under 200,000.

"The four-week moving average of claims remained below the 200,000 threshold for the sixth straight week.

"The Fed’s rate hikes have done little to cool a red-hot U.S. job market, which has put upward pressure on wages, and as a result, prices.

"Last month, the government reported that employers added a better-than-expected 517,000 jobs in January and that the unemployment rate dipped to 3.4%, the lowest level since 1969."

But the experts think a recession is on the horizon. Go figure.

Are we going to talk ourselves into a recession?

ABC reports, "Growing recession alarm at the outset of this year warned of a coming business slowdown and significant job losses -- until a government report last month showed that unemployment stands at its lowest level in more than 50 years.

"A couple weeks later, in mid-February, fresh retail sales data blew past economist expectations, suggesting resilient consumer spending, the lifeblood of the U.S. economy.

"The blockbuster economic performance boosted hopes that the economy would avoid a recession altogether. Goldman Sachs cut its odds of a recession in the next 12 months to 25%."

Yet despite all this, ABC reports, "most economists say that the nation remains on a crash course toward a likely recession within the next year. A survey conducted last month by the National Association for Business Economics found that 58% of economists expect a recession in 2023."

    Fascinating! Are most economists Republicans?

“We’re going to walk down to the Capitol, and we’re going to cheer on our brave senators and congressmen and women. You have to show strength, and you have to be strong.”
“When you catch somebody in a fraud, you are allowed to go by very different rules."
“We fight like hell and if you don’t fight like hell, you’re not going to have a country anymore.”
"Now it is up to Congress to confront this egregious assault on our democracy. And after this, we’re going to walk down, and I’ll be there with you. We are going to try and give them the kind of pride and boldness that they need to take back our country.”
    *********************************************************************************************************************Donald J. Trump, Jan. 6, 2021

Some of Trump's legal claims are hilarious. Such is the case with his speech to far-right extremist groups on Jan. 6, 2021, prior to their attack on our capitol.

CNN reports, "The Justice Department on Thursday urged an appeals court to reject sweeping claims of presidential immunity put forward by former President Donald Trump in the civil litigation surrounding the January 6, 2021, insurrection at the US Capitol.

"The department told the appeals court – which is considering several private lawsuits brought against Trump for his conduct in the lead-up to the attack on the Capitol – that a president can’t be absolutely immune for speech on a matter of public concern if the speech is found to have incited violence.

“No part of a president’s official responsibilities includes the incitement of imminent private violence,” the Justice Department said in a friend-of-a-court brief that the US DC Circuit Court of Appeals asked the government to file.

"Thursday’s brief marks the first time the department has confronted directly the question of Trump’s civil immunity for his conduct related to January 6. The lawsuits were brought by Democratic members of the House and Capitol Police officers."

    Wow! That was fast.

CNN reports, "After deliberating for less than three hours, a jury found Alex Murdaugh guilty of the murder of his wife and son.

"The disgraced South Carolina attorney was convicted on all four counts that he was facing — two counts of murder and two counts of possession of a weapon in the commission of a violent crime.

"Prosecutors have indicated they will seek life in prison without the possibility of parole for the murders, sparing him the death penalty.

"In a separate case yet to go to trial, Murdaugh continues to face 99 separate charges stemming from a horde of alleged financial crimes, including defrauding his clients, former law firm and the government of about $9 million."

Alex Murdaugh's conviction sentance is more life without parole. I thought it was 30 years to life, but I guess it was changed from 30 years to life to life. If he were to apply for parole at 84, he probably wouldn't get it. That's all there is to it.
