I have tried just about everything from beat up military stuff that the armorer was going to scrap due to the finish wearing off (they sort of look gold underneath) to British Sterling stainless steel mags with a black finish to the popular MagPuls, numerous military contract rigs and my favorite the Lancer brand

This is a 30 round clip and it's filled with NATO spec M855 rounds manufactured in South Korea, PMC X-TAC.
    Easier to acquire than Sudafed.

I had a dude that I served with at Ft. Silly back in the 80s unfriend me on FB because I stated that I would put a PMC round up against any US made ammo all day, any day.
It was just an excuse for him to unfriend me, we never liked each other, from my pov he was a bit of weasel, wouldn't have trusted him to walk my dog if I'd had one, but he served some valiant tours and ended up with an IED disability in New Mexico. So out of respect for our mutual time together and his continued service, I friended him on FB. However, facts are facts, and SK has it's manufacturing down tight compared to US. Just like Japan achieved in the 80s and 90s and like China has finally done in the 90s, 00s, 10s, 20s and beyond.

I have 5 boxes of 1k rounds of this stuff. Plus maybe somewhere between 1 to 2 k rounds of 9x19mm standard 9mm rounds, including a good amount of Speer Gold-Dots, probably rated the best 9mm round I found through many web searches.

Meh, unlike you though, I would give all of these up without a sweet FA in favor of the US implementing hardcore laws like there are in Japan. Not for any half measures though. Nope, not interested in that. And although I fully appreciate that *in fact* *unequivocally* the sheer amount of ammo and small arms weapons owned by the people in the US does in actual fact provide a check against government overreach, ah, um, wait, where was I going with this? Oh yeah, Sudafed, we should be able to get that too!

My EDC AR gets a 20 rd gen 2 Pmag. I prefer a 20 rd mag in the AR as a 30 is too bulky and gets hung up dragging the thing in and out of vehicles etc. all the time.

I keep a variety of loaded 30 rd gen 2 Pmags and 30 rd PSA aluminum mags in all my vehicles. The PSA mags I bought on one of their sales several years ago. Bought 50 at once and I think they cost about $5 each. Never had one malfunction. I leave them on pickup dashes loaded for a couple years in the hot sun and they still function fine. The sun and heat turns them from black to a bit purple in color. I keep a bunch of loaded mags at home as well so I don’t have to worry about reloading mags during busy times of the year. Some evening in the winter when I get in early and feel ambitious I reload a bunch of mags for the rest of the year.

I like Pmags but honestly I’m quicker on reloads with the PSA aluminum mags. I have a handful of old Bushmaster 30 rd mags somewhere as well. I think my scoped old Bushmaster target model has it’s original Bushmaster branded mag stuck in it.

I guess I don’t have a favorite. I’m quicker on re-loads with the PSA mags because they are slicker than Pmags but even though I’ve had good luck with the PSA ones I trust Pmags more to be reliable and less prone to damage.

Ammo for “business” is 60 grain v-max. But I was running low on it and found a big lot of 55 grain v-max recently at a very good price so am going to transition to that. Any old ball ammo for plinking. I have American Eagle, x-tac, iac, and maybe some blazer. Haven’t looked for a while. Sometimes if I have to euthanize a larger animal with a thick skull and I have time to prepare I’ll grab a mag from the basement loaded with 62 grain green tip.

Why not just stock up on the green tips from the link above? Currently $480/1000. Great quality. Low Price.

I have a couple thousand rounds of the stuff and seldom have a use for it. Euthanasia cases are one to two rounds and on smaller animals something that expands is better anyway. The rest of my shooting for “business” is coyote, fox, groundhog, possum etc. so the v-max stuff is better than green tip.

That is a good price though. I’m pretty sure my green tips are that very brand. And I’m pleased with the quality as well. Purchased years ago from Cabelas with a bunch of discounts I never paid more than $0.24 a round for any 5.56/.223. The good old days…. wish they would return. :)

I dont recall the brand, but I have some heavier steel mags designed to be able to be dropped full onto concrete from 6 feet without bending or breaking the guides. I did a test and seems to be true. Unfortunately if you look at them crossways, they immediately start rusting. Cant really say they're my favorite. SS mags would be good, but I know SS tends to not be as strong, and for whatever reason, I have a tendency to run afoul of feed issues from bent guides...

I always prefer loaded mags over unloaded mags!

Magpul has taken care of me for so long I can’t remember. At least for AR uses. Some of the ones they make for glock (clear ones) took some breaking in.

yeah I normally only buy real Glock mags. I have several other brands-including those clear ETS ones, magpul, and the Korean military (not bad) and some baby blue ones (OK). The korean ones are a great story. Glock entered into a big contract with the ROK and then decided to jack up the magazine cost. well the patent was up and the Koreans are pretty good at reverse engineering stuff and they made Glock mags. They actually work pretty well but I haven't seen them at a good price lately.

Magpuls are a good option. I haven’t had a single issue with them other than they’re made from plastic. That said, I don’t shoot my AR very often. I think the military metal mags are likely better because they’re made of metal and I also have had next to no issue out of them.

No way. The polymer magpuls are easily superior to aluminum and most likely any other metal mag. Plastic? The term conjures images of Walmart chairs that drop me on my ass after one-too-many Woodford Reserves. I've fired my LE6940 once, because I'm super lazy and hate cleaning it afterward. Possibly it has had 90 rounds through it. Practically a virgin, like Madonna. And like Madonna, she's wicked hot. Got a Marine Reticle Trijicon scope on her. Tritium brah. Nuclear sparkle in the sight. It's freaking awesome.

I have a Trijicon ACOG too. Personally, I think that was a bad investment. Great sight but the thing was $1700 there is cheaper that are just as good for what I use my gun for.

I use Magpuls almost exclusively. Never EVER have had a problem with them, they are affordable...Ive got a very solid stockpile...all good.

The exception for me is the metal mags for my Beowulfs. I only use Alexander Arms for them.
