United Russia Secretary Andrey Turchak announced on March 14 that the Russian State Duma will consider a law simplifying the legal recognition of missing Russian soldiers as dead.[45] The bill would consider a written statement from a missing soldier’s commander sufficient evidence to declare the soldier dead. The bill would also reduce the amount of time to declare a soldier as missing automatically from two years to six months, after which the soldier’s family can petition courts to declare the soldier dead. . . . .

    Key Takeaways

    • The overall pace of Russian operations in Ukraine appears to have decreased compared to previous weeks.
    • The overall Wagner Group offensive on Bakhmut appears to be nearing culmination.
    • International journalists reportedly obtained the Kremlin’s long-term strategy document for destabilizing and reintegrating Moldova back into the Russian sphere of influence by 2030.
    • Wagner Group financier Yevgeny Prigozhin commented on the reports about the dismissal of the Russian Commander of the Airborne Forces Mikhail Teplinsky - likely revealing Teplinsky’s affiliation with Wagner.
    • The Russian State Duma adopted the law on punishment for “discreditation” of all participants of the “special military operation” in Ukraine on March 14 to foster self-censorship in Russian society.
    • Continued Russian efforts to portray the war in Ukraine as existential to Russian domestic security by establishing additional air defense installations in areas that will never see hostilities is reportedly sparking internal backlash.
    • Russian President Vladimir Putin used his March 15 meeting with the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office to continue to bolster his reputation as an involved and effective wartime leader.
    • Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Syrian President Bashar al Assad in Moscow, Russia on March 15.
    • Russian forces did not conduct any confirmed ground attacks northwest of Svatove and conducted limited ground attacks on the Svatove-Kreminna line.

    • A Russian milblogger claimed that Ukrainian forces attempted to conduct offensive actions across the Kakhovka Reservoir in Kherson Oblast.
    • The Kremlin reportedly tasked the Russian Ministry of Defense (MoD) to recruit 400,000 contract servicemen starting on April 1.
    • Ukrainian partisans killed a Russian collaborator in an IED attack in Melitopol, Zaporizhia Oblast. . . .
Wagner Group continues to expand its recruitment campaigns to reach unusual audiences. Wagner financier Yevgeny Prigozhin responded to a journalist’s question about Wagner advertising recruitment drives on adult entertainment websites and Telegram channels.[70] Prigozhin denied authorizing such ads but noted that it is a good idea to recruit forces on such websites. . . .

    Key Takeaways

    • The Russian Federal State Security Service (FSB) appears to be trying to penetrate the Russian defense industrial base (DIB) in a way that is reminiscent of the KGB’s involvement with the Soviet military and industrial base.
    • Wagner Group financier Yevgeny Prigozhin claimed that he received a press question exposing a plot spearheaded by Russian President Vladimir Putin and Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev to undermine and “neutralize” the Wagner Group.
    • Western news agencies confirmed that Chinese companies have sold military and dual-use equipment to unidentified Russian entities. These sales appear small in scale but could alleviate strain on Russia’s defense industrial base (DIB) and circumvent Western attempts to limit Russian access to microchips.
    • Syrian President Bashar Assad used a staged interview with Russian outlet RIA Novosti to amplify notable Russian information operations.
    • Polish President Andrzej Duda stated that Poland will give Ukraine four MiG-29 fighter jets.
    • Russian’s decision to redeploy elements of its “peacekeeping force” from Nagorno-Karabakh to Ukraine is eroding Russia’s influence with Armenia.
    • Russian President Vladimir Putin attempted to reassure the Russian public that the war in Ukraine will not have significant long term economic consequences, likely as part of the Kremlin’s effort to prepare Russians for a protracted war.
    • Russian forces conducted limited ground attacks northeast of Kupyansk and along the Svatove-Kreminna line.
    • Russian forces continued advancing in and around Bakhmut and continued ground attacks along the Avdiivka–Donetsk City line and in Western Donetsk Oblast.
    • Russian sources claimed that Ukrainian forces conducted localized assaults in Zaporizhia Oblast.
    • Ukrainian sources reported that Russian forces increased their naval presence in the Black Sea. . . .

Ukrainian sources reported that Russian forces increased their naval presence in the Black Sea on March 16. The Ukrainian General Staff reported that Russian forces have 21 naval vessels on combat standby in the Black Sea, 5 of which carry 32 Kalibr missiles.[64] The current Russian naval presence in the Black Sea marks a notable increase from the reported 13 Russian naval vessels in the Black Sea on March 15.[65] Ukraine’s Southern Operational Command reported that the larger-than-usual Russian naval presence may be a demonstrative response to US statements about retrieving the MQ-9 reaper drone that two Russian Su-27 aircraft forced down over the Black Sea on March 14.[66] A US Defense official reportedly stated that Russian naval vessels are at the site where the US MQ-9 Reaper drone fell into the Black Sea.[67] . . . .

Russian authorities appear to be continuing efforts to make up for defense industrial base (DIB) production shortcomings by covertly procuring equipment from abroad. Ukrainian Military Intelligence Directorate (GUR) representative Vadym Skibitsky stated on March 16 that Russia is seeking shell suppliers in Africa and Asia to fill its ammunition shortage.[70] Skibitsky noted that Russia is actively working with Iran and negotiating with Myanmar and unspecified countries in Africa and the Middle East.[71] The Ukrainian General Staff reported on March 16 that the equipment inside Russian T-90 M tanks captured in September 2022 indicates that Russia places its markings on imported electronics within tanks to mask the fact that it does not produce electronics for its own tanks.[72] The Ukrainian General Staff added that Russian forces only have 100 T-90 M tanks remaining and increasingly rely on T-62 and T-72 tanks or sometimes use engines from the 1937 B-2 and B-92S2 model tanks.[73] . . . .

    https://www.reuters.com/world/europ...nd-mig-29-fighter-jets-ukraine-pm-2023-03-17/

March 17 (Reuters) - Slovakia on Friday became the second of Ukraine's allies to provide MIG-29 fighter jets which Kyiv believes are crucial to repel Russia's year-long invasion.

Slovakia joined Poland, which announced its delivery of the planes on Thursday. Both the NATO members neighbour Ukraine.

Its fleet of 11 MiG-29 planes was retired last summer and most of them are not in operational condition. It will send those that are operational and the rest will go for spare parts.

Slovakia will also supply part of its KUB air-defence system, Prime Minister Eduard Heger said.

"Today, the government decided and unanimously approved an international agreement (on the donation)," Heger said.

"The process of handing over these fighter jets is closely coordinated with the Polish side, with Ukraine and, of course, with other allies," he said.

Slovakia will receive financial compensation the European Union. It has also reached an agreement with the United States on deliveries of military material worth around $700 million, Heger said.

That is a bold move on the part of Slovakia since they do not even a border with Russia. Poland has a border with Kaliningrad ( the Western Allie’s mistake on the Baltic) and on the eastern side the Baltic countries are small so Poland has more to be concerned about. If things go really bad we can end up with a president who hates America, loves him some Putin and do what can to destroy NATO. I wonder what his name is.

Those Migs have been decommissioned for a few years, some can be fixed and some will become spare parts.
The EU will re-imburse Slovakia with 700 million Euro, great deal I would say.

How sickening that the west only issues an unenforceable arrest warrant for Putin but except for a handful of European countries Ukes get the Soup NAZI treatment “NO FIGHTER JETS FOR YOU”. Ukrainians say thank you Poland and Slovakia for what you have, are, and will do. That is a statement from my Ukraine cousin who I talk to every weekend. So that is from a Ukrainian not an American such as myself.

Belgium to send 240 military trucks to Ukraine18.03.2023 05:26
Belgium’s Defence Ministry is planning to hand over 240 military trucks to Ukraine.

The news was made by The Brussels Times, an Ukrinform reports.

“The first Volvo Cargo, Volvo Shelter, Volvo Fassi, and Volvo Manumat vehicles are scheduled for delivery next week. They will be used to ferry troops and equipment to the front line.”

The Belgian army has about 400 vehicles in reserve. They include Volvo Cargo, Volvo Shelter, Volvo Fassi, and Volvo Manumat. These vehicles are scheduled to be replaced by Belgium in a phased out planned years ago.

The replacement “has been ‘turbocharged’ by the war in Ukraine. Thus, the Belgian army can transfer the majority to the Ukrainian army.”

These trucks have seen service since 1992, but are in good condition. All the vehicles will be inspected and refurbished if necessary before they are shipped to eastern Europe then into Ukraine. Belgian will send spare parts.

Good show by Belgiums , really good show.
