And, though arguable, probably not incorrect.

Bragg’s Office Slams GOPers’ Demand For Testimony: Not A ‘Legitimate Basis For Congressional Inquiry’

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office pushed back on House Republicans’ recent demand that he provide sworn testimony on his investigation into Donald Trump in the Stormy Daniels hush money case – an inquiry that came after the former president announced he expected to be arrested on Tuesday.

The Manhattan DA’s general counsel Leslie B. Dubeck called the Republicans’ request ”an unprecedent(sic) inquiry into a pending local prosecution.”

“The Letter only came after Donald Trump created a false expectation that he would be arrested the next day and his lawyers reportedly urged you to intervene,” Dubeck wrote. “Neither fact is a legitimate basis for congressional inquiry.”

The response from the Manhattan DA’s Office comes just days after House Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan (R-OH) — alongside House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer (R-KY) and House Administration Committee Chair Brian Steil (R-WI) — demanded that Bragg testify about his investigation into the $130,000 hush money payment Trump made to Stormy Daniels during his 2016 presidential campaign.

Clearly we need to investigate the people accusing the DoJ of being weaponized for weaponizing Congress.

Bragg is a totally out of control off the rails DA, but as I said in another post, in this situation, much to my chagrin, Bragg is correct.

You need to stop believing what Trump says. It's fatuous propaganda designed to assassinate Bragg's character......Trump's M.O.

Bragg has done more to assassinate his own character than any other person by a long shot.

Agreed. Subpoena power for Congress is only for valid legislative purposes and they can only issue a subpoena if it is the only way to get the information needed to write said legislation. Both sides have been abusing this and it needs to be reigned in.

You sound like Steve Bannon. I'm glad you finally figured out that this is an abuse of power. Too bad you didn't have that opinion when your tribe was doing it and you were cheering them on.

According to what law? There's no law prohibiting the Eastman Plan.

Congress may have to do something about rouge minor prosecutors from all around the country filing suits against Presidents or candidates going after them to find crimes to prevent them from running and use their little realm of power to do so. How many such local prosecutors such as Bragg are their around the country. What if they all decide to use their abuse their authority such as here?

You mean like Bragg has done since he ran for the office promising his mission was to get Donald Trump on something........anything to prevent him from running for President that he must be stopped and he a little local prosecutor would use his authority in his little local court to do so?

How about equal application of the law. Let's not forget John Edwards actually used campaign money to pay off his mistress and mother of his child and he got off and the Dems said he should have.

How about apply the law as written, you statute of limitations and separation of jurisdictions?

Yep he has to tie it to some other crime to get around the statute of limitations and in spite of what some who don't know the laws are claiming a local DA cannot charge someone with violating a federal law.

For the particular crime bragg is tying this all to the statute of limitations is two years. Note it isn't even clear there was a previously existing New York crime felony or misdemeanor to tie this to.
And Scotus Ruled years ago that a candidate could spend as much of his own money on his own campaign regardless of election laws. If I recall correctly the case involved William Buckley's abortive run for office.
