In light of the mass shooting at a Christian school perpetrated by a female who had tried to identify as male, some of those who claim something NEEDS TO BE DONE have suggested that before anyone can buy a gun (legally through a dealer of course-blackmarket sales are immune to this suggestion) they need to be evaluated by a psychiatrist. NONE OF THEM have explained how this would work. I will note the following 20 million firearms were bought from FFL dealers last year the average psychiatric evaluation runs between 30 minutes to a couple of hours there are 45K licensed psychiatric doctors in the USA and many of them are not accepting additional patients So for those who are demanding this hurdle being cleared before buying a gun, they need to explain 1) how long should a buyer be forced to wait between the time they attempt to buy a gun and the time they can be seen by a qualified MD. 2) who should pay for what is most likely at least a 100 dollar or more fee 3) what are the appeal rights 4) does this merely apply to the first legal purchase after the law is passed or to every purchase 5) does the evaluation have a certain time limit now it is clearly unconstitutional to demand this but at least one advocate proposes it be part of a national CCW license-get the evaluation-allows you to get the license. How many gun owners would support that proposal?
The anti-gunners aren't interested in doing anything that would actually work. They just want to make harder, impossible even, for law abiding citizens to excercise their 2nd Amendment rights. They get mad when the suggestion is made to enforce the laws on the books and implement stiffer penalties for crime involving a firearm. Today a basketball player was arrested on 5 counts of assault with a deadly weapon using a firearm. Is he still in jail? Nope! He bonded out. Will he face a stiff penalty? Nope, 2.5 years, max. First off, he shouldn't have been able to bond out and second, he should be looking at at least 5 years per count.
Pro gunners always cry because of criminals, why not phase in guns that only the rightful owner can use.
And when the technology fails, preventing the owner from defending himself? I'll pass. You get one if you want, though.
So if you have a regular gun and it jams.....explain how you defended yourself from your imaginary enemy?
My EDC piece doesn't malfunction. I've proofed it with over 1,000 rounds. If it does by some crazy slim chance malfunction, I'll clear the stoppage and recommence slapping the bad guy in the teeth with some steel. One things for sure. The first round in the chamber won't malfunction.
There's a chance that a biofire might malfunction, there are times regular guns jam. So just phase in biofire guns and that will ease the paranoia that pro gunners have with criminals. Problem solved to their dilemma, that is if they want a safer gun environment.
No way on earth would I consent to psychiatric exams. Next thing you know "The desire to own a weapon" ends up in the mental health diagnosis manual.
What you don't read about in the news is the people whose lives are safe cause they had a firearm. Wasn't maybe ten years ago a man walk into a church to shoot the place up and a church member put him down.
What makes you think all the "pro gunners", as you call them, are like old Arlo here? - Looks like he is about to become a "rightful owner". You need to accept that much like poor people exist and society will never be free of poverty, dangerous people exist and the world will never be free of people who believe that their feelings are more important than the life of another individual. Furthermore, the gun exists, it escaped Pandora's box centuries ago. You cannot put it back. Between these two facts the world is indeed a dangerous place. But that is okay, we know how to defend ourselves.
Yes because there's no such thing as violent criminals that one might need to defend their self from.....
what a silly suggestion. a gun has to work when you need it. when the people charged with protecting Senile Joe carry such firearms, maybe I will consider it. something like that could be hacked and rendered inoperable by a malevolent government
And not to mention just simply much more prone to failure. Look at cars full of electrical systems. Electrical diagnosis is a mechanics nightmare Cars back in the day were much more simpler because they were simple mechanics and not overly complicated with computers to break and fail and wiring to short out.
if there are no criminals that we need to defend ourselves against, there is no need to tell 100 million people they have to give up their guns for "public safety"
Its easy and cheap. If they pull up in a Prius or Tesla, don't sell them a firearm. Its far too dangerous to sell firearms to those that can't figure out turn signals!
My brother a multi millionaire investment counsel partner drives a Tesla come to think of it-you have a point.
Been through this many times with the OP, but he always pretends no one has explained him anything. Why does he think there should be a new evaluation every time you buy a gun? I don't get it and he won't explain it. You would think one evaluation is enough. Do you need a new driver license every time you buy a new car? Take the driving test every time? No, one time is enough. Even school teachers could be taught to detect kids with obvious mental issues and refer them to evaluation. The fact is that 85% of mass shooters have suffered form serious detectable mental issues such as schizophrenia.
