A history of Mother's Day in Germany and abroad https://www.iamexpat.de/lifestyle/lifestyle-news/muttertag-history-mothers-day-germany-and-abroad
I voted against. Just so that option wouldn't feel excluded. All American holidays are overcommercialized. I doubt anyone has a problem with mother's day.
When something is commercialized....that means it's important to the citizens. Wish President's Day was commercialized. Might understand the meaning.
Women (usually) go through hours of pain, have certain body parts stretched beyond tolerance, and that's before AND after giving birth. While over-commercialized, Moms deserve recognition. Most don't care if you just show up or call, as long as you are smiling.
True, but I think its possible (and common) for something to be commercialized as a means to make it more important. That's how the psychology of advertizing tend to work, anyway.
