It doesn't have to be on the normal map you see on the news to be a city. There are cities in every state, small cities, that are by and large 'conservative'.

Hive city is a 40k reference.

Seems more like you're bringing your own racism into this again, which isn't a new thing, but hey whatever floats your boat, dude.

Considering its white people here in the USA who are the majority of shop lifters, and criminals in general. Whats that have to do with anything?

Its 2023, just do like Amazon go does and charge them as they leave with the merchandise,. Overdraft em if the funds dont clear.

Do you ever watch the local news? Here in Florida, the vast majority of crimes that make the news have been committed by “people of color.” Maybe the news reporting is racist, and they choose not to report most of the crimes committed by White people. I don’t think that’s the case.

In Chicago the biggest crime problem is Black on Black crime. A young Black male who is a murder victim was most likely shot by another Black male. That is not racism; it’s a fact.

Furthermore, the police will tell you that it is a small minority of the population who commits the crimes, and most of them are repeat offenders. Most people of color are honest citizens. In other words, it’s Black people who live in fear from lawbreakers who are their race.

This is why the George Soros sponsored DAs, who won’t do their job and prosecute violent and repeat offenders, are so bad. When possible, they should be removed from office. Failing that, they should be voted out or never elected to those positions in the first place.

So, you're telling me that if a black person was identified as a shoplifter and local retailers treated as a shoplifter, that no one, not one single person would call it racism?

Good! Then tell that to woke DAs, like Alvin Bragg, who won’t prosecute them.

Shoplifters and other criminals destroy neighborhoods.

I would argue that what we see on the news, and what happens in Chicago is an organized crime problem. And like guns it is just Americanized culture. Fast money and guns has always been what we glorify.

DAs wouldn't prosecute the mob for the longest time either, till they took em all down. Maybe its in the works.

Florida and Chicago aren't the only places with black people, if you're unaware of how the US looks.

You don't get it do you? Or maybe you do and are playing dumb.

The new Democrat thinking is that you don't prosecute Black criminals because of "years of systemic racism." What they refuse to acknowledge is that these criminals make life worse for other Blacks. What the progressive DAs are doing is racist, but you can't reason with a progressive.

They have "the high moral ground" because they are progressive and therefore have superior intelligence. Theodore Roosevelt was supposed to be the first progressive, but the president who took progressivism to the top of the arrogance latter was Woodrow Wilson. The funny part was, aside from the Confederate leaning presidents of the 19th century, Woodrow Wilson was easily among the most racist presidents, and was the most racist president of the 20th century.

I think that, respectfully, you are all missing something. We have already tried the knee-jerk reaction, of tougher sentences, in the Clinton era Crime Bill legislation. Did it work? Rather, it has been blamed for putting people behind bars for large parts of their lives, over relatively minor offenses. It actually created career criminals, because their records made it hard to get employment, and their time locked up, left them without many saleable skills. The cost of merely imprisoning people, is rather substantial; in many cases it drained more from society than would have, their petty crimes.

I am not saying that people should not be punished. But to look at the situation in the simplistic, one size fits all manner that many here seem to see it, we know will not solve this problem, even if it satisfies peoples' personal ideas of "justice."

Because Adams did have a career in law enforcement-- having risen, I believe, to the rank of captain-- I think it would reflect better on opiners' sense of humility, to consider that perhaps there might be more ways to address criminality, than one might realize.

For any who are actually interested in understanding that there are more effective and pragmatic ways to address the crime problem, overall, I've linked a short document, about lessons that we can learn from the experience of Germany. In the screen shot, above, it is noted that in the 1960s, our own incarceration rate was only slightly higher than Germany's. Now, though,
"as Germany has engaged in intentional efforts to reduce it's reliance on incarceration, crime rates have been dropping for decades, and are at their lowest level in 30 years."

Conversely, the U.S. has 4% of the world's people, but 22% of its prison population.
Any intelligent person, looking at those facts, cannot reasonably conclude, either that we have addressed crime in an efficient, productive, or smart manner, or that there are not better techniques, from which we would benefit.

The German system does hold people accountable, but not by just dumping them immediately into the prison system. Many of those 250 New Yorkers who racked up 30% of the city's arrests, 2500, in a year, will be tougher cases, and for some, a long sentence, may wind up being the only way to address it. But that still leaves the other 70%. And of those repeat offenders who can be put on the right track, the benefits are then exponentially greater for the rest of us.

The thing that you all seem to be overlooking is the great power that community can play, in modifying behavior. Many criminals never think of their acts, as seen through the eyes of others; many perhaps have an idea that society is against them. Seeing their own behavior through the community's eyes, as well as seeing that society is holding out a helping hand, I believe is enough to shame many offenders, especially those who have thought of their crimes as not directly impacting their fellow citizens.

As Germany's example shows, there is a better way, not only for the lawbreakers, but for society, which will benefit from more productive citizens, and fewer they need to support in an expensive and mostly ineffective prison system. Understanding & acknowledge this truth, I think only requires of us, who are debating this, that we view most other human beings as having at least some goodness inside them, and as possessing the potential to change.

giving them hand slaps is not working...... Repeat offenders deserve the book thrown at them

“250 people in 2023 have been arrested almost 2500 times"

that is a huge problem (and that is just the ones caught)

when the issue at hand gets under control, then we can go back to more moderate punishments, for 1st offenders

Repeat offenders though, the people are sick of that, they need to go to prison even after it's under control, jail is more for 1st timers

I'm definitely in favour of harsher conditions in prisons but less time. Make a week in prison feel like many months. For first timers of any age give them some jail time even if just half an hour

I do not support harsher conditions in prison, just losing your freedom for years is enough, that time would already be slow time as it is - my problem is the prisons are full of drug users vs real criminals, we hand slap real criminals and even put real criminals on a list and release them - not smart

now I would support all prisons being more high security, then as you're closer to being released, less security and more preparation for release, no good time unless you pass the preparing for release courses

Not necessarily. It could just be an indication of poor education.

Would you want a known thief working in your place of business?

I do a background check on all my new hires. I have had many thieves working for me over the years. Not all thieves can become politicians!
